The prequels is my personal favorite SW trilogy because of how expansive it made the SW universe, the underlying narrative of power, control, and corruption, the characters are well-defined. The visuals, the planets, the "new" military weaponry and their design, the ground assault and space battles, the fights, the music, even the dialogue I find rather intriguing. I also like how it made everything in the OT that much more significant and retroactively made several setups and payoffs.
    Episodes 1-6 is Star Wars.

I liked that the prequals had a lot more nuance and it wasn't comically good guy vs comically bad guy. I was born in 98 but my parents had me watch the original trilogy before we all experienced the prequals together. And as a young lad I kinda just liked all of them as one big franchise. I didn't understand the time difference between when they were all released and frankly I wouldn't have cared. I still to this day don't understand why it has to be one or the other? It's all star wars, all made by Lucas. If you dislike 50% of the franchise surely that means this franchise just isn't for you?

Og is the standard issue hero's story. Everyone saw that a million times already. Save the girl, beat the evil empire, kill the big bad powerful wizard that sort of stuff.
The prequels are more. The line between good and bad is blurred so nicely. First you start off fully supporting the republic in the phantom menace, then in attack of the clones saws seeds of doubt in your mind. You learn of Sifo-Dyas, Dooku and the dodgy creation of the clones and Anakins loss of his mother, a trauma that would be neglected by the Jedi but adressed fatally by Palpatine. And in revenge of the sith the gloves are off. The Jedi find out about Palpatine, leading to the choice for Anakin between saving Padme or the republic as the scale of the plot that the emperor of the og has been scheeming under our very eyes. The sheer magnitude of a fabricated war that was only an screen to cover his true desire (emergency rights, destruction of the order and ultimtely the formation of the empire). The story is amazing, the politics are immaculate.

I think when the prequels came out there was so much other stuff out right ? We had LOTR , Harry Potter all brand new franchises so to dive into an already established Franchise with great track record from the 80’s the timing didn’t seem the best, especially if the writing couldn’t keep up, and people weee against it from the start nit picking every little thing because they loved their originals, I didn’t get into the prequels until years after they finished their run and I actually enjoyed it once all the noise surrounding it calmed down

The prequels were always GOOD movies, it was a groupthink mentality that led to everyone thinking it was cool to hate on them. It’s fair to call the prequels “disappointing” because they weren’t as good as the original trilogy, but “disappointing” is different than “bad”. The Prequels were always good movies.

I think people like the prequels now because this generation of movies don’t feel fun anymore, there’s no substance, I always feel like there’s something missing from todays movies except on the rare case every now and then, and besides super hero movies and now dune what are the other big galactic blockbusters

The prequels are great and I’d argue if they came out in the 80’s they be just as loved as the original, but now it’s all about Disney and I don’t know if they’re handling it right

Disney seems to be fine with just putting out star wars CONTENT while episodes 1-6 all had purpose and an end goal

I think a lot of older generation don't like the prequels because they only like star wars because they saw it as a child. It simply is not the type of movie you like to see as an adult. Also I suspect that is the same reason a lot of these people loved ep7, which was same story, pandering to nostalgia

Yeah, though there are plenty of people that do watch it as an adult and like the Prequels overall. Heck, there are people who posted reactions to all the Star Wars Movies.

@@mikebottomlesspitdunham2954 I agree, there are people who like these films in general (as in like the story/world building, don't mind corny dialog) hence like prequels. But there are people who as adult don't like these kind of films, but when young and impressionable, they don't have the same tastes/preferences. Hence they like OT as they were young but hate the prequels when they saw it as adult

@@hdhdhshscbxhdh4195 well, my father enjoyed both trilogies. He owned Phantom Menace on VHS until the VCR ate the tape, saw Episodes IV and VI with me when he rented them on VHS for us, and took me to see the other two in theaters. The only thing Star Wars I think that he didn't watch as of when I last spoke to him were Clone Wars, The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Clone Wars Movie.
