  • Hello everybody! In today’s video I share with you how I make my eco dyed papers. In the first part of the video I reveal my very first batch of papers using this method. Second part is a tutorial, and in it, I explain how I do it, and what I used to create these prints. In the third part of the video we go through all the prints, once they're clean and dry, and we look at some things that we can create with them. I also quickly go through the pages from my Eco Dyed Papers digi kit that I created using some of these prints.

    This is my first video of eco dying and I LOVE IT! You did so well! I’m loving all the papers you made! I don’t have flowers growing in my yard right now but I have a few friends that do and I’m calling them today to ask them if I can have their dead flowers. I can’t thank you enough for this video!!!! Have a wonderful day.♥️

    What a great video! Now I know how to eco-dye paper without boiling everything for 3 hours (energy is so expensive now) so, thank you! I think the tea might be very important to the results because the tannin in it is a natural mordant (fixative). Thank you once again for sharing

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před rokem +1

      You're most welcome! Thank you so much for watching and for your comment! You're probably right about tea, I also find it needs to be very warm, almost hot, so that it steams the petals. It help to release the pigment. 😊❤️

    Very pretty papers. If you soak paper in Alum Acetate for cellulose your colours will be brighter and possible more stable… dry the paper then use your tannin sprays as you did here… I think these may fade without a mordant. Will be interesting to see you papers in a six months…when Eco dyeing cellulose fibre the tannin is best if added first and then the AA… this makes for a more stable mordant. Maybe try this with a cotton rich art paper. Cheers

      Thank you so much for watching and for these wonderful and useful tips. I'm planning to do another batch as soon as I collect enough flower petals and get all of the ingredients. I'll definitely try what you suggested here. I scanned these papers just in case they fade, but of course, it would be great if they don't, original is always better than the digital print. ❤️❤️❤️

    Amazing. I tried this and IT WORKED. 🙌🙌🙌 I’m so amazed by the results. A much more straightforward method than creating paper bundles. I am now using the same leaves and skins to see if I can get more colour out of them. I used some 120gsm paper and also some 300gsm. I tried thinner paper but it wasn’t strong enough. Thank you for sharing this. ❤️ It’s huge fun. I feel so creative, but really it’s nature that can take all the credit for the gorgeous colours.

Only takes a few hours. Not scorching hot days, then in partial sun. Move container around 2 let what's gathered in bottom get sheets here an there. Hope this is of interest. • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před rokem +1

      It's possible that the pigment in the dried petals is more concentrated, and warm tea and onion skin solution help to release it, acting as mordant in a way. 😊

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před rokem +3

      Oh, so sorry the papers didn't turn out as you'd hoped. It happens sometimes. Honestly, I have no secret, I shared all the information on how I achieved these prints in the second part of the video:
      Warm black tea and onion skin solution for spraying. I don't think cold solutions would work well. Drawing paper, 165gsm, I think mine was acid free. Dried rose, peony rose, hibiscus, cactus flowers, most were red or purple. I also used fresh dandelion petals. Those flowers had pigment in them, that's why it worked. Some flowers, no matter how colorful, won't release any pigment. Leaves didn't release any color, they were used more like a stamp on stencil. All the colors came from flower petals, tea and onion skin solution. I hope this information helps you in case you try this again.

    There must be a science to echo drying. I tried it a few years ago on CZcams one CZcamsr uses Alam and vinegar, and I couldn’t get it to work so I was wondering, if you know the answer, how does the onion skin water and tea bag water help in leaching the colors onto the paper? Your papers turned out beautiful and that was the effect. That I was trying for in the past

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před rokem

      Hi! I don't know the science behind it all, so I'll just speak from my experience. Onion skin water and tea can dye paper without anything else added. Leaves and green parts I used were more to give imprint, they released no dye. Red rose and purple peony rose petals were dry and dye must have been more concentrated. Dandelions had lots of yellow dye that mixed with blue hibiscus flowers and ended up greenish. I experimented with other flowers and some, although bright and colorful had no dye in them. It really matters what you use. I've noticed that red orchid cactus flowers give the strongest red. Treating paper with alum first would probably give more stable results. I used onions skin water and tea for brown color and also to soak the other plants. The fact that the liquids were initially hot helped to release the dye. I hope this helps 😊

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před rokem +1

      @@sunshinegirl8214 I can't really say because I don't know what flowers you used. Some flowers, although colorful won't release any dye in them. Leaves won't really give you green with this method. Blue and yellow flower petals when they mix might give you green Pink and white flowers will give you brown or nothing. The brown you're getting might be from the tea or onion. Your tea and onion need to be warm when you spray, not cold. That would help flower petals release dyes. And last, perhaps use different paper next time. 😊

    Beautiful papers! Have you an idea will these colors stay or will thay fade away with time? I've done some eco dyeing with lupins (as we need to get rid of it here, it has taken over large areas) but the color you get from the flowers doesn't last, they fade, even if you use heat. The color you get from the stems and the leaves will stay.
