    I loved my 2011 YD25......BUT!.......Like you said, they do lack power. The first mods I did on mine were 2" lift, 2.75" exhaust, EGR blank, catch can and a Steinbauer. Made a huge difference to how it handled and how drove! One thing I will say is they are quite capable as a 4x4 too. Once they get a bit more power, they can keep up with pretty much anything as long as it's not extreme. They are a very light 4x4 compared to cruisers, patrols etc, so making a few mods helps them keep up. Mine never let me down in the 280k I did on it. I love them!

    I’ve had my 2011 d22 for the last 9 years. Haven’t had one thing go wrong with it. It is a bit sluggish and I’ll admit it’s more sluggish now since i’ve added extra weight with all the mods i’ve done, but like you said, keep it serviced, take care of it and it will take care of you.

    They are super cheap now here in Namibia, it's probably due to the zero safety rating! But I love mine!

      Haha first day I got mine i realised thing handled like a boat. I bet they did the safety tests without a full tank or weight in the back tho because that makes a huge difference in rear end traction.

    I've just bought a 2018 model, here in South Africa. I love it. We have a really bad 4km dirt mountain pass road. I love the 'basic' practically. The continent of Africa seems to have millions of them, even in darkest corners of Africa. Good reliable old workhorse.

    Ok, my experience with my sons 2008 D22 YD25. The crank angle sensor is in a vulnerable position to water and more importantly oil leaks. And when you get oil on it, it will run like shit (mine at idle). Before a mechanic tells you the timing chain needs replacing, get under the car and make sure its not soaked in oil. It can happen from oil spilt when the oil filter is changed, causing oil to run down the electrical conduit and a worn sensor "O" rings.......In my case both had happened. Mine was throwing out the code 0336, which is a number of things including crank angle sensor and it does also include wore timing chain. Now, to make sure the top chain had not jumped, I took off the front cover (real easy) and rotated the engine a lot of revolution to get TDC (I mean a lot, and take out the glow plugs). Mine was perfectly aligned at TDC through to the cam marks. But what I saw and what I read about the top tensioner it's obviously is a bad design, to where the after market guys include in their kits a tensioner piston spacer (7mm I believe) because over time with chain stretch, which is probably caused by it jumping/wiping around, it doesn't surprise me they jump. What I did was to purchase a new top chain tensioner and I cut a 10mm spacer from the old tensioner piston and inserted it into the new tensioner first followed by the new piston. Perfect fit and no more cam chain noise! Again before you have a mechanic tell you the timing chain needs replacing, check your crank angle sensor for contamination. Before you ever get to that point of it failing, get under the car and Denso wrap it all the way up as far as you can reach. Happy motoring!!

    Older 90's style Nivaras are being sold off as base level commercial Utes by Nissan for 37 thou. The 98 D22 ute I own pops out of top gear going down hill on the highway. The door trims have come apart and get stuck locking the doors shut, soon to be removed altogether, floor trim will and spilt, cloth seats will spilt and go out of shape, foam will poke out. Use premium diesel only, hi flow will glaze cylinders and you will loose power. It will suck fuel in town and towing, you will only get 20 litres per 100 in town. The motor only has 60 horsepower available. It cannot carry anything other than a box trailer, starts to creep at speeds higher than 85 klicks.

    Hey mate, nice vid and channel! Very informative and non biased! I just bought a 2010 yd25. I've got a couple of issues with it since buying it last month. It blows a lot of smoke when putting the pedal down. It also cuts out if given too much throttle. Goes into limp mode. Unsure what the go is? It has a performance ecu.. but still feels sluggish like it hasn't made any sort of improvements. What's your advice? Just had it serviced as well, mechanics didn't say anything.. should I take it to a diesel tuner shop? It's also ticking when giving a touch of gas. Cheers man! Keep up with the good videos!

      you have to check the fuel control value by the high pressure common rail pump. Check to see what codes its giving with a scan also, the engine likes clean oil that's something i learn. I have mines for 8 years and no smoke at all even when flooring it. I change oil every 3000km the only mod is i did is install a powerbox and it runs better that most vans has scary torque. I was told by a service guy that Nissan program the ecu to put out less power but the drive train itself can put out over 60% more power. without damaging anything.

    @blckmedia2072 Před 3 lety +2

    Hey bud, thanks again. Great video!! Quick one, what mod "order" (in order of priority) would you recommend for a beginner (stock d22)? Say I want to do suspension lift, wheels, dual battery, truck bed (since I do a lot of film & photography down here in Zimbabwe, I carry around gear & equipment so I need organised storage, comms, power and good suspension as I occasionally use it as a chase car/grip)... I realised that since it's such a basic car, there's great opportunity for modular builds & mods which makes it a whole lot fun & gives you a lot of control.

Looking back I shouldn't have paid more than 16k for mine, but it was a dealer that had a good rep and I was impatient after losing my first nav. Been a while since I looked around the market but Id still say 16k for that max, I'd be shooting people offers just under too. The D22s are pretty basic and 160xxx is still a fair count. By an average 20xxx per year, in 2 years it'll be at 200xxx which is where you lose your resell value I think. 🤷‍♂️

      Hey mate, hard to say, looking at the general condition of the car and engine bay should give you some idea of how its been looked after. It could be good to go, it could still also be about to go 😬 but I guess for the right price, if you're willing 🤷‍♂️ you see them with more kms than that up for sale but you just have to be aware that even by no fault of the owner, parts wear over time 👍 it could be a gold mine, or it could be the explosives they use to help dig the mine 😬

    possibly looking at a 2013 d22 yd25 with just under 200,000 stock for around 13-14k, is this a bad buy or does this year model have bad issues?
    cheers

    The 185cm thing makes me laugh, I’m 197 and it’s the worst driving position ever, feel like that tall guy from the Simpson’s in his small car

    Ticking time bombs worst motors built by Nissan over heating and timing chain issues they need to be fitted with a duplex timing chain from factory
