    What’s very special is the red wings practice rink is a level below the normal rink. So they don’t have to go anywhere else for practice everyday. Pretty awesome.

      I love when they have the practice facility in the same building as the stadium so then the teams don’t have to move all the gear. It’s below the stadium though?! Wow!

    Also, the city of Detroit IS technically North of the US-Canada border. It is a rare location where you cross south into Canada and north into the United States.

    I've heard from somebody who knows a guy working on the Flames new arena that the arena bowl is going to be close to identical to little Caesars. Also the arena is expected to have restaurants fronting onto the street like Little Caesars too, but the arena will be smaller.

  • @control_the_pet_population

    Nice review! As a Detroit native I've been going to Wings games since the early 80s... and everything has come full circle. Back then, the Wings had a new venue (Joe Louis Arena) but the team absolutely stunk and the place was typically empty. Today, the team has a new venue and they stink again after roughly 30 straight years of success... and their new arena is typically empty.
    While I really like LCA, I think the concourses are a bit too modern... so much space is dedicated to them that the seating bowl feels cramped by comparison. This is most apparent in the upper bowl, which feels downright claustrophobic in certain areas, with the massive scoreboard and roof gondolas taking away any "open" feeling. That said, the concourse areas are indeed gorgeous, featuring wide walkways, tall ceilings and plenty of cool things to see with tons of restaurants / bars / vending options to visit. Minor complaint in the big picture... I guess I'm just an old man who only cares about the concourses when I want a beer or need to use the rest room. Modern stadiums seem to focus on the areas away from the games more then the game itself.

    • @SACSportsAdventures
      @SACSportsAdventures  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks! I think that’s a pretty great analysis. Teams are trying to attract a wider audience (especially while struggling) and having all the fancy amenities attracts new fans who aren’t there for the game itself but the whole experience. LCA is extremely impressive but I also get the vibe that it’s almost too modern at times, especially after how old school the Joe was. Thanks so much for watching and the insightful comment!

    I love LCA. Been there at least 20 times since it opened four years ago. Albeit, I only been to a couple hockey games. The rest were for basketball. My only gripe with the stadium is how expensive many of the lower level seating is. The problem with those lower level seats that give you access to the private clubs beneath the concourse is they price many fans out of them. On top of that, the people who do purchase those seats are spending half the game inside the club taking advantage of the complimentary food and drinks, so that means less people sitting in their seats and more empty seats on television.
    I think the black seats are a huge upgrade over the red seats when basketball is being played, but a big downgrade for Red Wings games. I really want to see what the arena is like when both teams are good again.

    • @SACSportsAdventures
      @SACSportsAdventures  Před 2 lety

      Yes! That’s a fantastic point! I know of several other places (notably, Yankee Stadium) that have that issue. The seats on TV have fancy amenities attached so the stadium always looks empty. I think the issue is that stadiums are starting to be designed to accommodate fancy corporate sponsors with extremely deep pockets instead of true fans. Thanks so much for watching and the insightful comment! I’d image it’s a great venue to watch the Pistons in as well.

    The portal system is designed to make it easier to find your seat.
    If your in section B, do you enter the tunnel for "sections A-B" or "sections B-C?" Depending on your seat within section B, it might be much closer to one tunnel or the other. The portal system is designed to avoid this confusion.

    • @SACSportsAdventures
      @SACSportsAdventures  Před 2 lety

      Ah! I see! So essentially if you’re on the aisle the portal system helps you to see which stairway to go down so that you don’t go down the wrong one and have to cross through the entire row to get to your seat on the other side. Smart! I saw this in Cleveland as well at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

    Thanks for the different shots of the arena. I'm a dislocated Red Wings fan, and I REALLY want to see a couple games in LCA, as part of a life goal to see a game in every arena. I'm trying to decide if it's worthwhile to get closer to the ice, or if Mezzanine or upper bowl prices are worth it for something I haven't been able to do in 6 years, due to travel.
    No animosity towards the Jackets or their fans whatsoever, by the way. Know it can be rough to be towards the bottom of the standings, especially the very humbling past 10 years.

    • @SACSportsAdventures
      @SACSportsAdventures  Před rokem +1

      Glad you enjoyed! It’s an amazing venue but I looked this year at tickets and they’ve really jacked up the prices since the team has come into good form. I think it’s totally worth it to be in the lower bowl if they’re your team and you don’t go often. That will be a blast! Being a Jackets fan (and also a Browns) fan is a rough life but I’m always true to my teams.

    • @Simon-tc1mc
      @Simon-tc1mc Před rokem

      I wouldn't recommend the upper bowl, unless you're in the first few rows. Any further back and your view of the rest of the stadium gets blocked by the gondola. It really destroys the arena atmosphere. Also, the stadium is so steep that if you're in the back rows of the upper bowl, you are so high you can hardly see the rink and need to look straight down.
      I'm sure the lower bowl is way better, but the upper bowl at LCA is definitely worse than at the Joe..

  • @TJK152

The building itself was atrocious. The fan experience except when in your seat was terrible. Long lines, weird smells, dark and cramped concourse. Then the creepy walk through dimly lit tube tunnels back to the garage where you'd wait for an hour before you could exit.
