Polishing Scratched Casio Crystal and Strap Swap

  • Bought this old badly looking Casio A163WA-1QES with a hope to bring it back to acceptable condition. And to my surprise the result was better than I expected. Couldn't do much about the frame but the crystal is almost scratch free now, except the deep scratch on the right that's barely visible. Polishing takes a while but is well worth it. Also, I swapped the strap because I don't like stainless steel straps. The spring bars I had were a bit too fat for F91W strap, thus I had to heat the strap and force it in. Thanks for watching!

    I took about 20 yrs of work abuse off my crystal but I used 2000 grit wet sand then 3000. Turned out really good. That pollywatch compound looks like a great product though. Thx for the tip. Cheers!

    For acrylics I just use rubbing compound for cars, then I finish it with brasso, and carnauba wax. Tried using ceramic coat on my ae1300, and its glorious, but a bit pricey.

    You've polished the plating off the case. I usually remove the crystal to polish but if that's not possible then I polish on a flat surface so that only the crystal comes in contact and not the case. Also, for deeper scratches, I use a coarser abrasive and then finish with something like polywatch.

    • @wyatt1019
      @wyatt1019 Před 3 lety +1

      What would be a coarser abrasive? i have an older digital seiko watch in similar condition to the one pictured in the video, and I've tried polywatch, and while the display got clearer, the deeper scratches weren't effected.

    ohh as i was watching the video I was thinking "he's gonna remove the chrome plating from the plastic!!" and indeed he did T_T if you do this on a plastic silver case like this you have to be very careful not to polish the case at all. if you use a very flat and hard surface you might be able to get the "glass" to polish without touching the case, but the rag should be kind of thin aswell. or maybe just using your finder coated in cotton with polishing paste, and being super careful.

  • @dunstan96
    @dunstan96 Před rokem

    You should smear the abrasive paste on to the glass and let it dry before you start rubbing. It's the powder suspended in the paste which does the actual polishing.
