    Thanks for the video. Questions about about adhering the planks to the floor. I am getting conflicting information about what adhesive to use. Some claim any foam backer needs to be removed and to use vinyl adhesive. Some claim that the foam based backer can be adhered using specific types of construction adhesive. Some claim that the previous method using construction adhesive will melt the foam if it is not made for foam but the back of the label says foam board not closed cell foam like used on the back of LVT. Others claim that any type of adhesive will bleed through the vinyl because the vinyl is petroleum based (?!?).
    So what type of prep is required for the typical LVT type of plank with a foam backer in order to use adhesive and what type of adhesive (specifically by brand and name) works best? Removing the foam backer would be extremely labor intensive and sketchy at best considering the type of bond that foam has to the vinyl so I am hoping this is not necessary.

      Hi Peter, I am using construction glue, like on this video and nails as well. This adhesive don’t have any conflict with lvp and underlay. I did several jobs already, no complaints.

      @@peterdoyle833 you do want to use a proper adhesive. Typically one that "bonds to pvc". PL 3x works well. Removing the pad is not only alot of work but you want to keep the grip/traction the pad gives (material flex). The key for a good bond to the pad is to prep it by scuffing/gouging with a heavy wire brush. This way you increase the bond and keep the benefit of the pad. If we can help let us know. @@saltystairtreads thanks for the response. Fortunately I have an 8” jointer and removed the foam. I’m not a flooring guy but a woodworker and I’m shocked the flooring professionals don’t demand something better than the options available.
      The amount of LVT sold my Home Depot and Lowe’s and Floor and Decor and no nose options by their “house brand LVT” manufacturers.
      Anyway job done, thanks. I’d charge $120 a stair if I ever did it again.

    What happens if you get squeaks. How do you fix it?

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Most of squeaks from the sides of the treads - it’s can be fixed by injecting glue through the little whole under and put nails as well. Another big problem - squeaks coming from staircase. Was not fixed before imstallation of final flooring material.
      I don’t have in my installation this problem, because I fixed staircase before installing and I always show in my videos how to right put glue - around the wall, under the riser and diagonal lines on stairs. This is the key. Thanks

      The sharp edge wears quickly. Square nose with an eased edge is the way to go. SaltyCustomVinyl makes treads from plank with eased edges.
