Shots of impressive buildings similar to the one seen earlier; automobiles; rickshaws & pedestrians pass by. Tracking shot heading up street; same huge building on rt. w/ Union Jacks & other flags hanging. Looking across park at crowd of Malayan people; houses in BG. Next; magnificent building w/ striped towers and arches w/ clover-shaped tops; on island w/ tall palm trees around it.
    Ceremony for unveiling statue of Sir Frank Swettenham; former resident general of Federated Malay States and governor of the Straits Settlements colony. Attended by Malay States rulers; officials; & Captain Buller of the HMS Malaya. British officers & wives walk past. Soldiers (British?) march back & forth; then stand in rows. Arrival of Sir Laurence Nunns Guillemard in automobile. He inspects troops. Pan from behind platform where N.-G. stands by covered statue; dignitaries seated watching.     A highly precious archive on the glimpse of KL in the distant past. It is just like looking back through a time machine where we can look at the scenes during British colonial era, with the Union Jack flags hanging on the bulidings. Thank you for uploading this very historical movie.

    A very rare footage. Thanks for sharing. I pass by these places almost everyday and to have a glimpse of how it looked a hundred years ago, is simply amazing. Today, to cross the the road where this clock Tower is to get to the other side, is no feasible task !

      Hasil bumi kita tentulah dibawa balik ke Britain. Jika kita lihat sejarah lebih awal, pada 1824 British dan Belanda telah menandatangani perjanjian /persetujuan untuk membahagikan Nusantara /Kepulauan Melayu di antara jajahan-jajahan mereka. Sedih sangat. Besar sebenarnya Nusantara ni yang mana dulunya termasuklah negara-negara terkini; Filipina, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapura, Timor-Leste dan Pulau Krismas (kini milik Australia).
      Kita semua bersaudara dulu..tapi campur tangan Inggeris dan lemahnya kita memahami sejarah Nusantara telah menyebabkan ada rakyat negara masing-masing salah-faham dan bersengketa.

    During those days.. melayu x de selipar or kasut to wear and its 1920s.. so agak²nya bila selipar n kasut mampu dibeli oleh orang² melayu yang tinggal di Kuala Lumpur.. belum lagi yg tinggal dibandar² kecil.. mereka x mampu dan video ini menceritakan kemiskinan orang melayu pada zaman ini.. boleh dianggap video yg menghina kedaifan masyarakat dizaman penjajahan..

      Tak ada pulak dalam rakaman ni Melayu tak pakai kasut. Segak pakai Baju Melayu ada lah nampak. Tahun 1920-an ni berlaku kemelesetan ekonomi yang sangat teruk di Amerika Syarikat (Great Depression) sampai ada yang kebuluran. Pergi buka buku sejarah atau baca novel The Grapes of Wrath karya John Steinbeck.

      Melayu zaman ni hidup sederhana dan kaum bangsawan kaya raya. Melayu tidak daif macam anda tulis, buktinya Melayu zaman ini enggan menjadi kuli British sampai mereka terpaksa bawak dari India dan China dan zaman inilah British mencipta dogma "Melayu Malas" kerana geram akibat keengganan nenek moyang kita itu dulu.
