This is our 3-month update of our patio pond. Since its creation, the weather has improved and the plants have bloomed! We have added 4 small goldfish to the pond, which have grown so much in the last month to ensure the health of the fish, we do a weekly 30% water change and our filter-UV combo is rated for a MUCH larger pond. They seem extremely happy, are growing and are enjoying themselves!
In addition, we have added the mixed pond plant rested on-top of some large stones bridged with a slate slab. The slab gives a lot of hidden coverage for the fish and also an excellent platform for the plant.
One of the most rewarding parts of the patio pond has been the draw of native wildlife. Honey bees are constantly coming to the pond to drink, we have on average 3 or 4 bees that stay for a minute before moving on and this goes on all day from around 11am till 6pm! Quite a tremendous amount of honey bees when you tot it all up!

Hey T Gulley, thank you for the feedback! This pot is 80x80x30cm, and it's a good size for the plants and as a water feature in general.
I wouldn't go any smaller than this, to be honest.
This pot isn't too small, as it definitely has a presence but it fits comfortably in one corner, it is also easy to maintain at this size. We have a few small fish in the pond too which are doing well, but we bought a very powerful filter and UV light combo which does take up some space but keeps the water crystal clear (plus weekly water changes).

This is also similar set up to mine too and I have 4 fishes. Looks nice. I'm just wondering how water is so high up do you have drainage incase it rains?
Sorry for the delay, we just let the water run over the side when it overfills, its how i do the water change as well.

Hello Svenn, they did. We had below -10'c night in which the top later would freeze over night. I put warm water on top of the ice and melted it in the morning and evening though, i didn't fully leave it as I was concerned it would fully freeze.

Sadly not! Chilli has lighter patches on its head and is more confident than the rest and Ethel tends to just chill solo away from the other three, whilst I assume that’s the same fish it probably isn’t haha!

Gosh I dont actually know what theyre called but they grow so well! I should be doing a new video soon to recreate the the patio pond as i've moved country.
How do u keep it from not overflowing
If it rains heavily then it might overflow slightly, but theres evaporation occuring at the same time so more often in spring or summer, i need to top it up :)
Will the fish escape?
Could you do other species of fish?
Hey Robert, I am setting up a new one soon and plan to use mosquito fish (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquitofish). I have had to transfer the gold fish to a larger tank, they didn't stop growing haha!

but won't the fish slip away through the edge?
Hey Hong, really good question. The fish haven't slipped off the edge as they stay lower than the top of the water. However, during spawning season one of the fish was pushed out of the pond as all the males chase the female around which was super sad! Otherwise, the remaining fish are doing good.

The device? thats the pump with a Uv filter light inside of it, or do you mean something else?
