- Following the success of the high-performance (but equally costly) RGM-79SC GM Sniper Custom, the Earth Federation Forces commissioned a new sniper-use GM to be built during the last weeks of the One Year War. Due to the tight one-month deadline for designing and first rollout, only a handful of the new RGM-79SP GM Sniper IIs were seen in the last few days of the war, with some assigned aboard the assault carrier Gray Phantom ( which were destroyed during a battle inside the Side 6 Libot Colony) and the White Dingo team in Australia. The GM Sniper II was based on the in-development RGM-79G GM Command, and was the most powerful GM variant built during the war. Featuring special targeting sensors in a face guard visor for its standard sensors, the GM Sniper II could be equipped with a beam rifle or 90mm machine gun for close-quarters combat, or a long-range, projectile-firing rifle for sniper missions.
For people who wonder why this thing is called "Sniper" but never been seen using the Beam Sniper Rifle in the OVA, it uses it in the manga and novel. One unit on the lauching bay of Gray Phantom was snipping Kampfer but missed.

Also the reason it was called Sniper wasn't just because it was very capable for long range engagement, but also Sunrise interpreted the Sniper moniker to be synonymous with ace. Meaning all Federation MS that have "Sniper" in their name, with the exception of the first GM Sniper, were ace units with high performance in addition to being excellent long range combatants

@@LilyBeta to be fair on them, normally when something has the name sniper in them, it is expected to mean they are specialized in the role of sniping, with the implication that they are deficient in other fields like CQC as a trade-off.
The Federation's line of Sniper units take the moniker differently as they are like high performance all rounders with big bonus stats for snipping
@@granmastersword only the GM Sniper 2 units had the benefit of better sniping as the original GM Snipers and the GM Sniper Customs didn't have the bonus of enhanced zoom from the Visor

Federation vs ZEON and Journey to Jaburo were the best early 2000's UC gundam games.
currently there's not a whole lot of games outside of Japan aside from Gundam crossfire, Gundam Battle Operations, GBO 2, and Gundam Evolutions.

GM Sniper II comes in only in the final mission but White Dingo team basically kicked major ass in the Australian front to earn those suits.
I love the GM sniper 2, it's (on paper) an Excellent machine for its time, but I hate how easily they were wiped in 0080, I could live with them being destroyed but at least with a better fight rather than total decimation, but that's my humble opinion

GMs with unnamed pilots are always there mostly to do what's called "jobbing" in wrestling terms. To lose in order to build up other characters. Hamfisted writing mixed in with a big dose of the japanese still being visibly angry about losing the war (the OYW is and always was a WW2 analogy).
@@LAG09 He's referring to the Kempfer vs Scarlet team which I'm pretty sure were the White Dingos not just some cannon fodder GM's. A lot of people think this scene from 0080 makes no sense as this was a pretty skilled team of pilots who got annihilated by a single suit..
Come on guys you know even if the kampfer doesnt have good armor its fast with a lot of weaponry.Its a heavy assault suit that overwhelmed the defenders and assault can catch someone by surprise.Also lets be realistic getting caught on deployment is a rookie mistake. They got caught and paid the priceplus even the one on the ground got decimated bcs it wasnt prepared for anything
@@alexioskeskou1866 oh I'm not debating the kampfer being an excellent assault based MS, it is indeed a great MS that emphasised mobility over armour for the very purpose of quick hit and run tactics, my problem here is that, this really the only time we some MS, (GM sniper ii included ofc) on screen, and it'd be nice to get more shots of competent fighting or a better show off a suits abilities than just explode after 5 seconds. Like the fight between stark Jegan and the Kashatriya was a pure minute of bliss, with funnels, there wasn't really any way the stark could of won but the suit was shown off very well. It's just a bit annoying to always see feddy suits in particular that stat wise or on paper are brilliant MS but we hardly see that ability shown
The scene with the scarlet team always made me sad, you have team with pretty high end machine and to simply wipeout like that is just embarrassing.

No one there expected anymore than a gelgoog when the kampfer show up, if anything losing weight on MS armor with dom to gelgoog performance isnt anything to laugh about, look up johnny zaku 2 high mobility the thing isnt on the same playing field as regular zakus or gouf.

あの時リボーコロニーと連邦の関係は悪化の一途を辿っていたから連邦軍のスカーレット隊はコロニー内で迂闊に撃てなかった。
しかもジオン側の機体は強襲用に開発されたケンプファー。文字通り相手に有利な土俵で戦わざるを得なかったスカーレット隊は不利だった。だからあんなに容易く撃破されたんだと思いたい。
なお、ジムスナイパーⅡは当時の量産機の中ではトップクラスの性能を誇る機体。初心者を乗せていたとは到底考えにくい

Legend has it that the Spartans such as Master Chief from the HALO series is based upon the design look of the RGM-79SP GM Sniper 2, but shrunk 10x smaller 2b made into a space marine infantry soldier. While it sometimes also resembles a power ranger.
Chief is actually based on the GM Spartan to be specific, though there were plenty of other inspirations such as motorcycle helmets.
@@redlightu How could it be the GM Spartan when came out in 2010? Nearly a decade after the 1st HALO game was released. It has 2b a GM type mobile suit any Gundam series pre-1997. It may not be the GM Sniper 2 (my mistake) that might've been the inspiration behind Master Chief, but I narrowed it 2 a few suspects. It could either have been the Command GM or the GM Custom from War in the Pocket or Stardust Memory, or it could've been the ground combat GM from 08th MS Team (or even the Blue Destiny Unit 01 from another story), or it could be Zeta Gundam's Nemo, or it might've been the Jegan from either Char's Counterattack or F91 that was the inspiration.
It has 2b based upon a design from a previous Gundam series b4 the time when Bungle started developing HALO. Kakarot197 had a video explaining this theory between Master Chief & one of the GM designs here.

@@erebamagi8241 Kakarot197 did a video about the rumor of the Chief being based on the Spartan, and the short answer is the rumor is very false. As he points out that magazine was a rather limited release and only really came out in Japan on top of the depiction of the Spartan being pretty different to what it is now.

It being a limited release doesn't mean people from the design team didn't get ahold of it.
The GM Spartan looks similar enough to Chief's original design. As for how far the design deviates, the Isuzu VX2 was modeled after the RX-78 MkII and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution line was based on Gundam and it's cockpit.

スナイパーと名前は付いているが、実際はエース・ベテラン用の何でもできる超高性能機である。
カタログスペックはガンダムどころかなんとZ以上ν未満とかいう頭おかしいスペックをしているが、どう考えてもミスである。
その設定ミスを抜きにしても、高い機動力に高性能のセンサー、武装次第で様々な戦闘に対応できるカスタム性など一年戦争の機体ながらその完成度は高い
劇中では…ホワイトディンゴ隊のカスタム機は活躍したものの、肝心の初映像化作品である0080では、なんの見せ場もなく秒殺されている。このせいで超高性能機なのにイマイチそのイメージがなく、スカ劣等隊だの全滅隊だのスカーレット隊共々ネタにされることになってしまった
スカーレット隊は装備だけは最新型で、パイロットは新兵やったのさ・・ベテランやらは優秀な連中はソロモンやアバオアクーで戦っているからな・・

Everyone's saying this and that about the Scarlet Team, and I agree. Problem is, this is a GM Sniper II video, and those 3 weren't members of the Scarlet Team. They were a separate team deployed alongside the Scarlet Team, and their squad name is Deep Blue Team.

It's sad that this MS gets slapped around in every anime appearance due to incompetent pilots.
At the very least in the Rise from the Ashes game, this machine gets the respect it deserves, with the White Dingo team using it to take down an enemy ace in a beam weapon toting Gelgoog and a Rhinoceros mobile armor that's backing it up.
It has nothing to do with incompetent pilots. It has to do with incompetent writing.

Seriously tho, that scene hurt my soul, these GMs were pretty much the RX78-Gundam in GM form... and even outperforms the Gundam in some aspects, only for them to be wrecked. What's worse is that 2 of the GM Snipers were taken by a pair of UNGUIDED Strum Faust... like dude... a little thrust forward would be enough to dodge that incoming UNGUIDED missile.
I think the last GM that was destroyed was a GM Command (not sure, basing it on the color scheme)... which was still formidable suit, but didnt hurt as much XD

When GM SNIPER II wasn’t used for sniping in 0080... (holding the bull pup gun) boom. Insta kill.
Unlike GM Sniper, GM Sniper II was based on GM Command, and itself also had been upgraded separately. Overall it's one of the best unit developed from mass-production types on paper, therefore it wasn't unreasonable to deploy them out of sniping and recon mission.

Having played with this guy in GBO last night, all I can say is:
How does a raid unit gun down a general unit?
You didn't even have the sniper rifle but a faster firing weapon against a foe that would collapse if you sneezed in its face
If you're talking about GBO2 then then Kämpfer is a general unit and the GM Sniper II is a support but the same concept still applies. I believe the performance in the shows do not reflect the performance in the games. For example, the original Gundam isn't the best against many other units from the OYW for example the Act Zaku but in the show it is able to decimate any unit that it comes across.
The way that the Kämpfer took this machine out was really bullshit though. The GM Sniper II is supposed to be more powerful than the Gundam and it got taken out by one bazooka shot

I wondered how they made GM Sniper II long before they made an actual GM II model in UC 0084 after the One Year War.
The sniper ii isn’t called the sniper ii because of the GM II lmao. It’s the second attempt at a general model ace unit after the GM Sniper Custom.
Gm Sniper II is not related to GM II.
Correction some of engineers who worked on GM Sniper II had a hand with the Nemo (mostly on its backside with the thrusters)

Huh? 0080 was never about Gundam/Federation. It is the story from Zeon side and normal civilian. It make sense why Gundam have less spotlight.

Love it how Build Franchise has those Close Death experince. When a Good guy almost dies, a random Lazer came out of nowhere. Especially with the Main Character. Almost loose then someone came out of existence to fight back to slow down the enemy. Basically they kept abusing Duex Machina. Thats one of the most Flaws i very disliked about the Build series. Overusing Dues Ex Machina.
Honestamente não gosto de nada na franquia build e a considero um cuspe na cara de todos os Mobile Suits fodas que aparecem nela. Como grande exemplo, perceba aquele híbrido vergonhoso que parece uma mistura entre o Gells-Ghe, o Akatsuki e o Legend.

That Alex and GM Sniper were being unknowingly used as bait by the actual MC (he's the one who shot from off-screen). Also the vast majority of battles in the Build series are 1v1's. Maybe actually bother watching the series next time before you babble.

ホワイトディンゴの陸戦用カスタムタイプを除くと何故か冴えない機体。
スカーレット隊やディープブルー隊はパイロットの実力不足なのか全く活躍出来ず。優秀なパイロットが乗ったら乗ったでラリー・ラドリー機はパイロット死亡、リド・ウォルフ機はMlAと何故か無事に帰ってくる奴がいない…。
考察というか妄想に近いけど、本機が狙撃もできるエース機体ってのが性能の割に冴えない理由の一つかもね。この機体って設定上普通のビームライフルやビームガンも装備できるけど、スナイパーの名前がついてることもあって基本的に狙撃系武器もってる印象強いんだよね。だけどエース機として前線でばりばり戦うなら狙撃用ライフルって取り回しが悪いじゃない？そうした求められる活躍と装備のミスマッチがパイロットの負担となっていたのでは？と個人的には考える。
え、ガトー専用ゲルググ（大型BR装備）？あれはガトーがおかしいだけだとおもいます、ハイ
あるかもですね。
他機種との混成部隊とかだと大体前衛は他機種のマシンガン持ちでスナⅡは狙撃ライフルで後方支援に回るでしょうし。
支援機でも近接戦できるリド・ウォルフみたいな変態はそうそういるわけ無いですしねw

だとすると、そもそもコロニー戦向きの機体ではなかったのかもしれない。

@@user-rd2vv5cd8p というより、ジムスナイパーⅡにエースと狙撃支援の役割を一緒に持たせるなって話かなあ。ジムスナイパーⅡ自体は高性能ゆえに前線でエースが乗り回して活躍することも狙撃機として狙撃ライフルで後方から支援することもできる万能ないい機体だけど、エースをこの機体にのせてついでに狙撃ライフルももたせて狙撃支援しながらエースの役割もよろしく、とかされたらたまらんなあとｗスカーレット隊はともかくそれ以外ででてくる場合って狙撃ライフル装備が多いし。
