I've driven a lot of Car Trek cars over the years, but the Mercedes SLS AMG might just be the best of the bunch.
Today I experience the 2011 Mercedes SLS AMG. But this isn't just ANY SLS AMG... This is the car used on season 5 of Car Trek, owned by Tyler Hoover.
Join me as I show you how similar the SLS AMG is to it's Car Trek season 5 costar, the 1983 Mercedes 300TD wagon. Then, I take the SLS out on the road to see what it must been like to drive it on the show!

It was a punch in the gut to see Tavarish and Ed put down the SLS during Car Trek. It was, and in many ways still is, the pinnacle of "Mercedes" as a comfortable, powerful, and inspiring vehicle. I can easily imagine putting thousands and thousands of miles on that car. I'm glad to see you highlight it in a way it deserves.

That Car checks ALL the boxes. I remember when it first came out and was blown away by how it was so true to its roots. I Can't think of a car I'd rather own and I'd drive it every day.

I'm glad to see you back Elliott! Clearly your enthusiasm for the SLS AMG is infectious, but I gotta say- I'm not a fan of the color combination. I'd much rather see a classic red interior with either the diamond white or iridium silver, but that's just me.
I hear you on that, I love these in silver with red interior. But this color combination has really grown on me over time!
Let’s compare 2 CZcamsrs, Elliot and Hoovie: Both are very nice and likable car guys. Both are my two favorite car CZcamsrs. Both have cute daughters. One claims to be the dumbest channel on CZcams and the other can attest and verify that the other one claims to be the dumbest. Both have subscribers numbers with a “4” in it, 1.4M vs. 49k. Both have cool cars and great car stories (see VinWiki). Both have been on presenters at big Car Auctions. One is famous for loosing money when selling his CZcams cars and the other, well he just looses money on CZcams. One shows us a car when only when he buys it, it’s broken or he is selling it. The other shows us the how much he enjoys his cars. Maybe the one with the fewest cars could feature the hidden treasures of the others one’s collection. That would be fun.

The SLS throttle response in all the rev range in all gears, put most cars to shame. It is a well designed car, well engineered, wonderfully thought, and engine with response, depth, well calibrated throttle, perfect steering, super stable chassis, high speed stability, comfortable, classy, beautiful, exhilarating when driven hard, marvelous engine sound without being too intrusive...honestly, this is the best car in the world. It might not be the best car in any item of the car industry, but it is so good in all of the items that I think it probably is the best car even. My opinion, it leaves the AMG GT in the dust...the AMG GT is better in some aspects, but overall, and particularly the engine response...is another level...those that like to appreciate each millimeter of throttle pedal, and like immediate response, and like a telepathic connection with the engine..this is the car
You drive the TD when you wanna pick up the family, the SLS when you wanna get away from them.

"On my favourite stretch of road". It appears to be completely flat and straight with a few small bushes as scenery.
Am I missing something or is that just how low the bar is for a favourite road in the prairies?
We lack roads with curves, so my favorite accessible stretch of road is the one with the best pavement and the least traffic 😂

I own a Mercedes AMG that I don't drive often and my last service was 385 days overdue and I'd only put 200 miles on the car. Hard to justify a $400 oil change.
I'm starting to think that the oil cap isn't a common part between these two cars XD
The SLS AMG is astoundingly beautiful, and I'm a bit jealous you got to take out and drive Tyler's. But it's all for having driven the most Car Trek cars outside of the cast itself, so I'll give it a pass! Excellent video as always, Elliott! Thank you!

Sorry about your marital troubles. Going through that myself right now. Debating on alimony and child support. I'm on disability and she cheated on me and moved away from Florida to Ohio and left me with all the kids, then claimed she was overpaying in child support (she was underpaying by 80 bucks) and she also doesn't want to pay Alimony but yet wants to sell our house and we have no place to live, but she doesn't care. I don't know what happened in your case, I'm just telling you about mine in case it's worse or better than yours. Hope it all comes out OK. Take care Elliott.
