    This is still my favorite. Just good old fashioned horsepower. So much DNA from American WWII aircraft but refined for sporty, civilian use. It doesn’t fly itself but it doesn’t keep you on your toes either. Believably stable.
    It is a slippery, heavy plane. You need to pay attention when landing it.
    A true, naturally aspirated sports car of the skies.
    Once you get the feel, it is an excellent plane.

    Just got this aircraft with the recent Carenado sale and couldn't be happier. Your video got me more familiar with the airplane and some of its cool features, so thanks!

    I love this aircraft, even after the Comanche. Everything you need is right in front of you, the six pack, engine instruments. Carenado did a great job.

    She'll gladly rocket into the mustard and ketchup easily, but she'll also drop like a rock with full flaps, engine idle, and airbrakes engaged. Trust her, she's a very capable aircraft, considering she's not even turbo or twin turbo like the Acclaim. G1000 flight suite, which'll save a couple hundred pounds, she'll be the most perfect plane mod ever made.

    Nice night. The aircraft is great fun to fly. Love the spoilers, they add a dimension you don't get in other GA a/c. Thanks for the fine presentation!

      @@martindescoteaux9288 hi, I do have both. I like the Piper as well, but I find myself flying the Mooney more. The greater range is nice. Most of my flying is below 10,000 feet and the performance is good on both. I also just prefer the cockpit layout on the Mooney. Hopefully that’s helpful

    This is a GREAT GA airplane. 150 knots at 10.5 gph or 185 knots at 16.0 gph. The IO 550 in the Ovation at 280 hp is hardly breathing. Speedbrakes. TKS for known icing. And fast enough to travel with. Very strong and stable. Great looking. I own one.

  • @mikex3909

    Really well done video, especially considering it was your first. I'm new to MSFS, and since I prefer low-wing GA aircraft I bought Carenado's Archer II. I know Carenado has a somewhat shaky rep, but the Archer looks great and flies OK enough. On the other hand, sometimes I just want to go faster and play around with more complex systems. I'm Arrow'd out from X-Plane 11's excellent version, and it looks like this airplane will scratch that itch.
    I was laughing during your approach because I did the same thing in so many times in X-Plane. "Is he going to go-around?" Nope. But you got her down just well enough. Fun to watch, thanks.

    The air brake is nice, but I find that if I use it too often it becomes like a crutch for when I screw up. The mooney lands easy enough without using it if you follow standard landing procedure. I mostly just use it now for when I'm messing around and "hotdogging" for fun. Anyway, it's functional and very effective if or when you need it. Nice video!

    idk why, but I'm getting the wrong sound in my plane since the updated M20 for SU5 dropped. Actually it worked fine the other day, but today I'm getting the sound from the SenecaV. I deleted the seneca and M20, reinstalled just the M20 and still getting the loud seneca sounds. Not even the cockpit sounds either, the exterior sounds from the Seneca. Very weird

    The Mooney has been borked and unflyable since the last sim update. I contacted support and they had no timeline for when it was going to get fixed. They fixed the Arrow but still not this one.

  • @TheBullethead
    @TheBullethead Před 2 lety +2

    Fun to fly but, in FSE, a rather dubious plane to have. While 85% faster than a C172, she burns 75% more fuel carrying the same 3 pax. As the green pax ticket price levels off at about trips of 100nm, the extra speed doesn't save you enough on your 30/48 to make much difference and any time savings are more than eaten by the massive fuel burn. The high speed only makes a real difference on flights of several hundred miles but those don't increase income because you're still only carrying 3 pax and their ticket prices stopped increasing at 100nm. The Mooney's speed would be beneficial on VIP jobs, which pay enough to offset the fuel consumption, EXCEPT that very few VIP jobs fill 3 seats or less. So in the FSE world, planes in this general category of fast, 4-seat pistons (Mooneys, Bonanzas, Cirruses, etc.) don't really work well. They can't compete with the C172 on the short-haul, green-pax routes and are too small to even apply for most VIP jobs.

    • @VFRSimulations
      @VFRSimulations  Před 2 lety

      That's true, all good points!

    • @speedeemee
      @speedeemee Před 2 lety +3

      All good points. The Mooney Ovation/Acclaim takes a very special type of pilot. There's a reason there aren't very many of them out there by comparison to Cessnas etc. That said I can say from experience that the quality, feel, and speed of a Mooney vastly surpasses anything else. Its one great advantage is that it is a true pilot's airplane.

    • @speedeemee
      @speedeemee Před 2 lety +2

      Also as a note, typically 12Gal/Hr is planned in the Ovation. The difference in efficiency is very small between that and a 172 working out to roughly .5 miles/gallon difference and a 40-50kt difference in speed at cruise. More than worth the nominally greater fuel burn if you ask me.

    • @TheBullethead
      @TheBullethead Před 2 lety +1

      @@speedeemee Oh yes, it's quite enjoyable to fly the Mooney, especially planning the descent without freeze-cracking the engine, using airbrakes, gear, and flaps at appropriate points to slow the beast down. And if that's what you want, have at it. I was just saying that planes in this class are not particularly competitive in FSE compared to slower, cheaper alternatives carrying the same load.

    • @TheBullethead
      @TheBullethead Před 2 lety +2

      @@speedeemee Well, fuel IS cheap in the great scheme of things in FSE. And I'd rather fly a Mooney than a C172 because you can see the scenery move and have more things to worry about. But Mooneys cost way more than C172s in all FSE regards while not making any more money per flight, so your net income is considerably less. Fuel, rental or purchase and ownership fees, maintenance, etc.. they all add up and eat into your net. And 100-mile trips ain't long enough for the Mooney's way higher speed to shorten the duration enough to let you squeeze in enough extra flights in your 30/48 to offset the increased costs per flight.
      Seriously, I love Mooneys (except towing them because they have STUPIDLY small towing limits). They look good, they sound great, they MOVE, and they're piston planes with airbrakes. And they're ideal for rapidly getting you and your mistress to and from a weekend getaway a safe distance from home, so you have more time to enjoy being there. Unfortunately, FSE doesn't model this :(

      @docandersonshow Před 2 lety +1

      You don’t want to get in the habit of relying on spoilers?!? There’s a reason they put them on the plane. That’s like saying, “ Yeah, I know I can raise the gear. But I don’t want to get in the habit of relying on that.“ I don’t think you get extra points for doing it the hard way.
