  • Some say here. Some say over there. ACHS historian Tim Smith breaks down the list of locations where Lee supposedly made his headquarters. He then goes on to explain why those locations are all wrong. This builds up to the gran reveal of the true location of his headquarters.

The transformation of the land from the modern hotel to the original landscape is amazing. Thanks for all your preservation work.

Hi Tim, did LEE ever sleep overnight at the Daniel Lady farm as some suggest?

Just curious, did Mrs. Thompson cook for the General or did his staff?

That's pretty cool how you got the sun to set during the course of the video.😁

So, did the movie Gettysburg get it wrong then? Because it never shows his headquarters in a tent near the house, he and his staff were always in the house and his meetings with his generals were being shown as held in the house as well. I’ve been to Gettysburg several times and have yet to see the newly acquired site around the house that the American Battlefield Trust has been able to preserve.

"...did the movie Gettysburg get it wrong..?" Bwah hahahahaha. He said it is likely Lee stayed in the house and his staff were in tents around it. Really wish people would stop thinking they are watching HISTORY when they are watching that horrible neo-confederate lost cause romance of a movie. Watch it for entertainment while trying to ignore all the problems with it DO NOT watch it thinking you are watching exactly how things played out during the battle, for that you will need to read a REAL History book not a movie based on a novel, a really bad one at that - I got through about 20 pages of the book before I tossed it in the trash. There are literally hundreds of books available on the battle of Gettysburg and people choose a novel over any of those hundreds of books ant of which are way more exciting than anything in Killer Angels. I cannot understand it.

2:54 I am hearing that Thaddeus Stevens moved to York. You didn't mention that he would end up in Lancaster. He was US Representative from the District which included Lancaster.

02:23 What's the harvest of death photographs?

It is a series of photographs taken of dead soldiers on the battlefield. Many experts (including Tim) believe the location where they photos were taken has not been correctly identified. It is a very famous and enduring mystery from the battle!

Just my opinion, south end of the battlefield, west side of the Emmittsburg Road.
