      Hey man! Got a question for you!
      How does the 3S compare with a normal 3C in terms of rim size?
      I'm looking for a mouthpiece like the Commercial but I'm a bit "scared" that the rim is to big..!
      Hope you can help!
      Thank you!

    Many thanks for the demo on the Bach commercial trumpet mouthpieces. I have got to ditto TheHuntermoss below. I have a Lawler C7 serial number 880. It's the best trumpet in my arsenal.

    Recently got the 5MV, great all around mouthpiece, definitely requires a solid embouchure, placing this mouthpiece on a flabby embouchure would probably be disastrous.

    • @timeisnow4116
      @timeisnow4116 Před 3 lety +4

      @@aklnoyz Huge, the v shape of the 5MV helps rush air through the horn quicker, so if your playing correctly, the air stream is funneling in to the lead pipe very quickly compared to a C cup, so you should notice that it’s very very easy to change dynamic levels. The extra weight of the 5MV provides massive amounts of projection and volume. The high notes feel much more secure because the v cup is so shallow. Only downside is the fact that you really need to avoid overblowing, especially if your coming from a big mouthpiece such as 3c or 1C. I came from a 1C and use the 5MV for lead work as well as Jazz depending on the venue acoustics and microphone quality. Don’t know if I’d use it as an everyday mouthpiece, some people do, this mouthpiece requires a great deal of precision, and some people may not have the patience to adjust to this aspect. Most importantly, I don’t believe that any mouthpiece increases range, but ones like this definitely allow you to utilize your range for a much longer period of time, when played correctly. Hope this helps.

    Good review thanks. I just got my Bach 3S mp yesterday and have not played it much. One thing,actually two things I notice is the real small throat hole and the very very roundness of the rim something I am not used to in most of my other mps.

    Hey man, What model Lawler is that you're playing. I have a C7 serial number 925. I know the C7 was not actually set up for playing lead, but it is the best lead horn I've ever played. Slots extremely easy in all registers, especially about the staff.

    If your looking for a Bach shallow mouthpiece use the “f” series like 3F. I use it and it’s great. Compared to the “f” series these are not shallow like the “f” series

    It’s all the same shit about new rim Bach, It still too much round !!! The walls Cup almost doesn’t exist in the sharpest cups, the neck of throats it’s too much open in the “E cup style” and too much smaller in the standard cup or deepest ones. The Back Bores still almost ok, but the RIM COUNTER IS SIMPLY SHIT !!! Who plays knows what I’m saying 😜
    P.S.
    This new Mouthpieces Number is just to Reference brand, don’t match with the Standard Séries. S3 is about 16,89 mm. (millimeters) and the S5 about 16,60 mm.

    • @Johnflugelhorn
      @Johnflugelhorn Před 6 lety +1

      I agree, I bought one and found it to be the most difficult mpc of all the many mpcs I have ! Like crazy ! Throat hole must be smallest I ever seen and the extreme round rim is uncomfortable. Forget about it !

    • @louramoreira
      @louramoreira Před 6 lety

      John Healy it’s always a personal thing with Mouthpieces. Throat it’s the same in this models but sharper - small, the Bore - Drill 27 the same, but for me it’s always the Rounded Rim that sucks. Can’t understand that almost people agree with this fact and Bach keep doing this shit.

    • @karlrovey
      @karlrovey Před 5 lety +1

      @@louramoreira There were a lot of trumpeters who couldn't make the switch from pre-merger Bach instruments and mouthpieces to the mouthpieces and instruments they produced after the merger with Conn-Selmer. As it is, Bach outsources their mouthpiece production and the mouthpiece is worth less than $10 until it has "Bach" engraved on it. I agree that their mouthpiece rims curve too sharply.

  • @otmq
    @otmq Před 6 lety +7

    I hate these pieces. The rim design is awful, throats should be 28 (but are 27) and the backbores are too large. Plus the 3S is WAY bigger than the average Bach 3 diameter. I feel like I was gypped when I bought mine and was ASTONISHED at how horrible a commercial mouthpiece it was. This product line simply made me hate Bach even more than I used to. Antiquated designs, new designs which suck, and too hard to play...

    • @Johnflugelhorn
      @Johnflugelhorn Před 6 lety +1

      Good to see I am not the only one complaining about new Bach mpc. The rim size: I have a Bach 3 C cornet mpc and the rim seems way larger than a #. I sent the new commercial piece back for refund and did not get full refund because the box was opened ! I do have some older Bach mpcs and they seem better than new ones. The mpc I use mainly now for hi and low overallease from top to bottom is an old Jet Tone 10 D rim is like a Bach 5 somewhat shallow but so comfortable. You may find one on ebay. Not the new Jet Tones which know nothing about and are more expensive than the several Jet Tones I bought some years ago as they were on clearance sale. Worth looking for the Jet Tone 10 D !
