  • On this day 15 years ago, the LTTE (Liberation Tigers Of Tamil Eelam) was decimated militarily. The Eelam War 4 ended with the death of LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran.
And with that, one of the bloodiest insurgencies in South Asia came to an end. The group that specialised in guerrilla warfare had unleashed a reign of terror for over three decades. The LTTE had fought three wars before with the Sri Lankan military and had the upper hand. But Eelam War 4 was different from the earlier three in many respects.
In this episode of 'Simply Nitin', StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale, who covered the final Eelam War on the ground between 2006 and 2009, has more.

What was not ‘recalled’ was the Indian support to the separatists who were trained by RAW in chakrata and provided safe houses band sanctuaries in Tamil Nadu.

Comprehensive narration of relevant recent history. Important to periodically keep bringing such items to the collective consciousness. Well-done, Nitin - I recall seeing IPKF preparations occurring and AN-32s taking off in droves from AFS Yelahanka. What a politically ill-advised/planned and executed effort that was - Op Pawan, resulting in over 1,100 IA soldiers and airmen killed and thousands more wounded. Truly tragic - lives of brave soldiers sacrificed and eventually a PM too lost his life - all for naught!

Rajiv Gandhi is seen standing alongside Assam Rifles officers (definitely from the Army). In my opinion this well-disciplined and only genuine paramilitary force of India is being utilized as a cost-effective supplement to the Army. Unfortunately, they are not even provided with the basic facilities that they rightfully deserve.

Thanks to Nitin Gokhale and SNG for this very interesting presentation. The brief analysis of the important stages of the civil war and the tactics employed by the Sri Lankan forces, particularly in managing the outflows of information and in blockading and neutralizing the arms arsenals ( the old ships used) of the guerilla forces, as well as the use of 'human shields' in the northern Sri Lankan stronghold by the LTTE, were important details. One has also read past accounts of young Tamil youth or 'child soldiers' ( both boys and girls) being used as suicide bombers and on the frontlines by the guerilla forces in violation of the Geneva Convention. It was a brutal war, certainly. The political issues that the Tamil minority had in Sri Lanka, at the time, were co-opted by Prabhakaran and his ruthless tactics, including the elimination of other rivals from the Sri Lankan Tamil community. One has also heard of the role played by some western church groups on behalf of the Tamil guerilla forces, particularly the envoy from Norway, who was frequently an intermediary in negotiations. More light on this aspect may be pertinent.
Also the Sri Lankan friendship with China seems to have its origins decades ago.

Thank you for refreshing the recent violent history in “our” island nation, the paradise of Sri Lanka.
Yes, we still need to do what we can to build genuine and lasting peace among the diverse and multi-religious communities to ensure such terrorism never emerges, again. That includes eradicating fraud, corruption and crime - on all sides.
One way to instill ethics, is by defining “ethical leadership” in our constitution - and by asking the population to make responsible choices when they select leaders among themselves - and at the country level🙏
Sincerely hope Sri Lanka will be able to advise Israel in dealing with terrorism, and the West in their apparent lack of understanding about the true nature of terrorist organizations.

Sri Lanka to advise Israel how to deal with terrorism! Two nations that practice state sponsored terrorism and racism one against the Eelam Tamils and the other against the Palestinian Arabs, going to advise each other on how eradicate terrorism? When the root cause of this so-called terrorism, itself is the terrorism practiced by the Sinhalese Sri Lankan state and the Jewish Israeli state, the former on its Tam l population and the latter on it Arab population. all based on racial and religious myths and fairy tales and exclusive entitlement to other people's lands that do not belong to them. Funny the so-called Jews who have returned have very little of the original Jewish blood or DNA other than the Jewish faith and are more European in ancestry. in fact it is the Palestinian Arabs who have more of the original Jewish DNA and similarly the so called Sinhalese Aryans are really in fact not Aryan at all, another myth, but in fact most of them are descended from post 15Th century low caste South Indian Tamil immigrants, who are ruled by upper caste and aristocratic feudal families again largely of South Indian Tamil immigrant origin, now all strangely beating the anti Tamil drum against the native Eelam Tamils, from the north and east, who have lived on the island for 2500 years at least, in the name of a Mahavamsa fairy tale book that states that Lord Buddha flew to the island not once but three times(sic). most probably on a magic carpet and promised the entire island to the Sinhalese Buddhists. Strange as the original Sinhalese Buddhists largely evolved from the southern Dravidian semi-Tamil speaking Yaka tribes, who converted to Buddhism on masse. Whilst in the north and east of the island the more elite and proper Tamil speaking Naga tribes hardly converted to Buddhism, so retained their ancient Tamil identity. Just like the way the Jews and Zionists quote the Old Testament to say Jehovah promised ancient Caanan or modern Palestine Israel exclusively to the Jews. All this terrorism arose because of foolish beliefs in myths and entitlement based on religion and fairy tales, encouraged by western colonial interests. In addition to the Indians the Israeli Mossad was also very active and was training the Sri Lankan armed forces and the Israeli state was providing them logistical support and arms. Your comment on surface or starts as conciliatory but later your true racist Sinhalese Buddhist or even Christian feeling towards the island's Tamils come out. Just like the vast majority of the Sinhalese and this the root cause of everything, as really do not want a multi ethnic, multi religious land where everyone is equal but only a Sinhalese Buddhist only land. The British gave you the opportunity and you want to use it. For the past 2500 years you were only coveting the ancient Eelam Tamil lands in the north and east other than very short periods could not take it. It was the opposite it was Tamil kingdoms from South India that came and ruled Sinhalese lands for centuries. Then came the British and created a new colony called Ceylon in 1833 by amalgamating the separate Tamil and Sinhalese parts of the island for their own convenience and handed the entire island, including the hapless Tamil population to the Sinhalese, who were until 1833 confined to the southern parts of the island but became a majority in the whole island, and Sinhalese dream to steal these ancient Eelam Tamil lands in the north and east of the island, that the fairy tale Mahavamsa chronicle states Lord Buddha promised to them has now been realized. Now the rest is history. I do not think Lord Buddha would have promised any such rubbish or have flown to the island not once but three times on a magic carpet of Jehovah promised the ancient Israelis any such rubbish that the land is exclusively theirs. These are all fiction and fairy tales that were incorporated to justify genocide and ethnic cleansing in the name of religion and race. And this man is preparing videos to glorify this

Not among diverse and multi religious communities. They are already at peace. What SL needs is reconciliation between the Sinhalese and the Tamils.
To do that the history dispute in the country, the root cause of the conflict needs to be settled.

    You missed some important facts.
There was not much synergy between army and navy due to the infamous animosity between Army chief Fonseka and Navy chief Karannagoda.
One of the key military tactics was that the army used small team (8 man, 4 man) operations behind enemy lines, so LTTE Lost manoeuvrability they had in previous Eelam wars and failed to carry out large scale attacks like Unceasing waves.
In Eelam war IV, the army advanced on multiple fronts at one time so the LTTE could not handle that with their limited manpower.
Most importantly, in Eelam war IV the SL government knew there were no peace options so the government had to wipe out the LTTE at any cost

@@starrynight43451 stop posting lies and rubbish. Anyone can google and read the real truth. The original Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamils are one and the same people, descended from semi or proto-Tamil speaking Dravidian tribes that migrated to the island during prehistoric times from what is now largely modern-day Tamil Nadu and Kerala but also from further north from what is now modern Karnataka, Andhra, Telengana and even parts of modern Odisha. Contrary to the popular myth, the Sinhalese descended from North Indian immigrants. Prakrit speaking immigrants, mostly men arrived largely not from Northeast India but largely from what is Northwest India. Modern day Maharashtra, Gujarat and Sindh areas. However, they never created the Sinhalese people or the Sinhalese language. They migrated to the island around 500-600BC and came got married to local Dravidian Tamil women or the Pandian Tamil women and got assimilated and their DNA is found both amongst the island's original Singhalese and the native Sri Lankan Tamils. Not just amongst the Sinhalese stop lying and spreading false history and information., It was the arrival of Buddhism around 2300 years ago from India and the large-scale/mass conversion to Buddhism amongst the semi-Tamil speaking Dravidian Yaka tribes living the central, western and southern parts of the island, that triggered the formation of a new language and identity in these parts of the island. These people started to mix up their local Tamil dialect with the Pali, Prakrit( the Prakrit influence was already there with this one off ancient North Indian migration and traders) and Sanskrit of Buddhism and gradually a new language and identity called Sinhala a Prakritised form from one of the ancient Tamil word for the island Chingkallam (meaning the red or copper coloured land in Tamil. Chem/Cheppu( red/copper) +Alam a tract of land= Chingkallam just like Keralam/Cheralam and many other Tamil place names) cane into existence by 7AD. In order to create a separate origin for these ancient, converted Tamil Buddhists in the south of the island, who had now evolved into a different identity and created a separate language from their native Tamil and the Pali and Sanskrit of Buddhism, this one of North Indian origin myth was created as the ancestry and origin of the modern Sinhalese, which is far from the truth. North Indian immigrants came but they never created the Sinhalese but just came got married and got assimilated into the local Dravidian Tamil population, otherwise their DNA will not be found amongst the native Sri Lankan Tamils.

In the north, east and along the northwest coast of the island, the Dravidian Naga predominated. Another name for the Naga (Do not confuse them with the Naga of Nagaland, but these are the ancient Dravidian cobra or snake worshippers, from the Hindu snake or Cobra worshipping originated) in ancient Tamil was Chera, hence ancient Tamil Chera Nadu. modern day Kerala and the island was also called Cheran theevu in Tamil meaning the island of Naga, as the Naga elite only ruled the island and predominated along the north, east, and northwestern coasts. This is the reason the island was called Serendib(from Latin Serendivus meaning the island of the Chera/Naga). Anyway, the more elite and outward looking, who traded with the ancient world from ports like Mathotham( modern Mannar region) Naga predominated along the north, and northwest coast and unlike the largely boorish, largely peasant, semi/proto-Tamil speaking Yaka population down south the Naga, especially their elite adopted proper Tamil as their mother tongue by 300BC. Unlike the Yaka down south these ancient Tamil Naga from the north, east and along the northwest coast of the island, did not convert to Buddhism on a large scale but largely remained Saivite, say around 75% of them remained Saivite and 25% converted to Buddhism and even the ones who converted to Buddhism retained their ancient Tamil identity in these areas unlike the Yaka further south who corrupted their Tamil dialect and evolved as Sinhalese, just like the way the Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada language formed from middle and old Tamil. Wherever the Naga predominated the ancient Tamil identity was retained, irrespective of whether the population converted to Buddhism or remained Saivite. However, by 10AD after the invasion of Rajah Rajah Cholan and his son Rajendra Cholan Tamil Buddhism on the island died off and the Tamil Buddhists on the island had reconverted back to their ancestral Saivite faith.

All the ancient Buddhist ruins in the north and east of the island are not Sinhalese as now being falsely claimed by the Sri Lankan state but Tamil, many of them are Mahayana. Ancient Tamil Buddhists belonged to both the Mahayana and Theravada Buddhists sect, whereas the Sinhalese only belonged to the Theravada sect of Buddhism. The king who converted to Buddhism 2300 years ago was a Tamil Naga Saivite. We do not know his actual name; he was given the title Thevanai Nambiya Theesan in Tamil meaning. Thessan who love god or Devnampiyatissa in Pali meaning Tissa who loved the name of God, the meaning is more or less the same in both languages. As per Keeladhi excavations Theesan or its Prakrit version Tissa was a very common Tamil name during this era. His father was king Mootha Sivan, this is a pure Tamil name meaning the great of venerated Lord Siva and his older brother was King Maha Sivan. Proving they were all Naga Tamil Saivites. None of the ancient kings on the island ever claimed to be Aryan or even Sinhalese as they were not. They were all Hindu or Buddhist Tamil kings, either from local Naga origin or of South Indian Pandian origin. These South Indian or local Tamil Naga kings used to take South Indian Tamil princesses from the Pandian country as their queens and after the fall of the Pandian, Tamil speaking Telugu origin Naicker princesses from Madurai and Thanjavur. No male born the king (who basically was a Tamil) by a Sinhalese woman ever was made to king, even from an aristocratic family and even these aristocratic families were of South Indian origin, it had always had to be a child born to the Tamil origin king and a Tamil or later Tamil speaking South Indian origin princess who were deemed fit enough to rule the country. This is a fact they now hide. At times these royal families came from the Kalinga royal house and not Pandian but 90% of the time it was Pandian. The so called Sinhalese royal family was a branch of the Tamil Pandian royal family and this was also one of the reasons the Tamil Cholas invaded the island

    • @SivaSankaran-om2ey
      @SivaSankaran-om2ey Před 11 dny +2

Rajah Rajah Cholan also settled thousands of Tamil Vellalar and Brahmins in the north and east of the island, from the then Chola country to strengthen the Tamil Hindu presence on these areas but these people only came and settled amongst the already existing ancient Tamil Naga Saivite tribes who had been living in these areas from prehistoric times. The backbone of the Sri Lankan Tamil are these ancient Tamil Nagas who migrated from India during prehistoric times. Into these people around 600BCE immigrants from Northwest India largely men came and got assimilated and later around 10AD Tamil immigrants, largely Vellalar tribes from the Chola country were settled by both Rajah Rajah Cholan and his son Rajendra Chola and the modern-day indigenous Sri Lankan Tamil is a mixture of these three people. By 10AD migration from South India to the Tamil parts of the island became a trickle or hardly anything and the Sri Lankan Tamils got isolated from the Tamils of South India and started to evolve separately into a different people, with their own unique customs and dialects of Tamil that is very much closer to middle Tamil, that was spoken around a 1000 years ago, compared to modern day Tamil spoken in Tamil Nadu. The dialects are mutually intelligible, but Sri Lankan Tamil dialects are very archaic, spoken in a sing song form of accent. However, it became the opposite in the Sinhalese areas. Migration from South India especially the then Tamil country,, modern day Kerala and Tamil Nadu, became a huge sea, more so that more than half or half the present-day Sinhalese population especially the ones living along the western and southern littorals are purely descended from these post 15TH century Immigrants from Tamil Nadu Kerala. It is funny when Sinhalese hardliners and extremists are falsely going around stating Tamils are recent immigrants to the island and as proof try to show the Indian origin estate Tamils who were imported by the British and live in the central highlands, when it is they who are largely descended from recent immigrants from then Tamil South India

Woh was your close relative who had such access to war torn Tamil areas, that even ordinary unbiased Indian journalists who wrote the truth were barred, unless they were mouth pieces of the Sinhalese Sri Lankan state, and their powerful anti-Tamil allies in India. I can only think of three all three Tamil Brahmins, who mouthing and posting pro Sinhalese Sri Lankan state propaganda and anti-Eelam Tamil rubbish. They were transported to the war torn Tamil areas by the Sri Lakan armed forces and AirForce and were their propaganda tool. One who was a former Tamil actor and editor of a Tamil magazine that is very popular with Tamil Brahmins, whose name starts with C has passed away. The other two are living one a politician and the other also is in Journalism and owns a famous Indian Newspaper and both are friends of the Rajapakses and were honoured by them. Everyone knows who they are and they pro Sinhalese anti Tamil stand not only against the Eelam Tamils but even against their fellow non-Brahmin Tamils in India. Say no more. The LTTE massacred some Tamils whom they considered as quislings and even according the to Sri Lankan state was only responsible for around 5% of civilian killings, Tamils and others,. 95% of the state sponsored terrorism and killings were committed by the Sri Lankan state and armed forces and 99% of their victims were innocent Tamil civilians, killed raped and tortured on the pretext of fighting the LTTE and over 148000 were deliberately targeted and killed the Sri Lankan State and armed forces in May 2009 and India not China, Pakistan or anyone else was Sri Lanka's biggest ally and everyone knows this. Stating the obvious truth is not anti-Indian. Says a lot about you and your so-called close relative.
