Thanks for posting this! One thing I noticed in the instructions that Kohler publishes with the official replacement part, they suggest that you remove the red flapper itself from the valve assembly while you are installing it into the tank. That probably makes it easier to secure, since you don't have to worry about crushing the flapper while compressing the gasket and rotating the assembly.
Try first using liquid dishwashing soap. If that doesn't work, try using a kitchen vacuum sealer & place sealed bag in the freezer. Then try to quickly install. be careful if using any kind of lubricant as it may break down the seal.
You'll have to align the three black plastic points with the triangle at the bottom as shown in the video, apply pressure and then rotate to the left to put it in its resting/locked spot. If you begin from the left side then of course you would rotate right.
If you search on the lowes or home depot site, you should be able to get the correct match. I believe Kohler should have standard sizes for their gaskets.
The lube is very important. Turning the flush valve with the new seal is very difficult to press down and turn. You should have shown That step instead of cutting back to it after it was installed.
Easy to install, czcams.com/users/postUgkxjA-hDN2m8_mi0Dg0JD8U6QiArozIAc4I and comfortable. No idea what other people were talking about when they said it was difficult to install or uncomfortable.

Thank you so much for this video. It saved me a lot a time and money. The link for HD & Lowe's helped a great deal.
I recommended for you to video recoding with the phone horizontal so that we can see better
Thanks for making this video. I found the link in your home depot comment. Very helpful!
You're welcome! Glad I could help out.
Thanks, this was very well done and helped me a lot.

Better to take off the flapper when installing. Super easy to remove and reinstall and it won’t be in the way.
Thanks !
I just came back from Home Depot, they do not have that thick rubber, only thin one, not sure if that works.
When you turn it, is it to left or right?
Should I press down on it as I’m turning it? Thanks

Looking for the new style, not the old flapper valve.
I forgot to ask…if I only want to replace the gasket/seal. What size do I need? Thanks

Part numbers are on the underside of lid

Interesting. Kohler's install instructions for this design of flush valve assembly say "NOTE: Do not apply sealant to the bottom of the gasket."
