You are really smart to buy your fish that way. In Montreal fresh fish is usually at least 16 euros (24 Canadian dollars a kilo) and so far we almost never see fish in special Too Good To Go categories.
By the way your quilt is a showstopper! It must be so rewarding doing good in that way. Thanks for your hard work!!!

Absolutely wonderful how you took that friend out for lunch. Sometimes we have to be flexible and some things just have to be done. In the past, I’d have gone into credit card debt in that situation (not anymore). This is what people need to understand - frugality allows freedom to make those kind of gestures once in a blue moon. Money = freedom and choice.

Your quilts remind me of the quilts my aunt made. She was born during WW1. I have a couple she made. She lived into her 80s. She made clothes for my grandmother, me and herself. She farmed with her brothers and my grandparents in North Carolina, USA. They cooked on a wood stove and heated with wood.❤❤❤

Thanks for the show of your quilt room. I've quilted since I was 20 and had a chuckle when you mentioned cleaning the room after the quilt is finished. We MUST keep up with our messes for fear of creating total madness!
I also have a longarm. Mine is a Gammill and like you, I opted for the simple machine. I didn't want a computerized machine with screens and all the bells & whistles, either. I do have pantos, and enjoy those, but mostly I love freehand feathering.

I got gluten free instant oatmeal for 50% off. They are the serving size sachets with a best before well into 2025. I'm a substitute teacher and they will work lovely to take to work. I made a kitten bed out of felted cashmere sweaters from the charity shop. Stuffed it with bits of scratchy wool also from charity shop. It is an extremely soft kitty bed. Dug in my mom's fabric stash she wasn't using to work on my applique quilt while recovering in bed from 2 surgeries. That quilt has turned into a stunner! Saved about $50 off what we normally spend at cheapest grocery store by carefully doing sales somewhere else. I had to use an electric scooter at the shop even because of my ankle surgery. In pain but my husband helped me get it all shopped for. Going to process my green onions and chives from garden this week.

Donations usually consist of lots of bread, pastries and potatoes but I’ve also often collected items as diverse as tangerines, apples, skimmed milk and tomatoes to name a few. Before I even finished unpacking, I moved my brother in with me when he became too sick to function on his own. Shortly afterwards, I became sick--terribly sick and that left me disabled. So, the room never got set up. It grieves me, but it can't be helped. I sew by hand while I sit at the kitchen table...so it's only little things. What a fantastic quilt! I love how you integrate colors. I am repainting some patio furniture here. Somewhere I read that if you clean and polish it with car wax a couple of times during the summer, the paint will stay good longer. I don't know if that is true, but I am going to try it. It won't take much time to take care of that task. The dog children are such a delight.

Beautiful quilt!! I love that border. Great buy on that fish. I don't know if we have apps like that here in Phoenix but I'm certainly going to look into it. 109* here today and still no rain. Have a wonderful week!

Great buy with the bread and the fish. I am not a fish eater but it looked like you will get a few meals out of that. I have a very similar garden set which like yours is in need of repainting. A job for this summer. I have bought Hammeright anti rust paint to do it.

    Hi Jane
I failed. I started well and today I went to the thrift shop and shop. I told myself only shop for food but I didn’t stick to my plan. I will continue for these lasts days of July and not be near a thrift shop.

Did you think through why you did that, for example, was it uncontrolled impulsivity ?

Hi Jane and Mike. Wow your quilt is beautiful! That is a lot of work, but very enjoyable I would imagine, and a great sense of achievement!
Well done on the fish haul, that was a great price for all that, and lots of meals too! Mike did well with his bread haul, I love French bread!
Thanks for sharing your no spend July, and glad the weather is finally warming up.❤️🇬🇧

I use Olio sometimes, have yet to try Too Good To Go. Olio has yielded some really good things, including free treats.
Love the quilt! I was watching whilst covering EPP templates to get enough hexagons to finish a top that has been on the go for some time (about 5 years as a pick up and put down project). The fabric I am using is scraps donated by friends, or old clothes. 1" sided hexagons (which I call my big hexagons) means a lot of templates to cover, and I needed to cover an extra 300ish to finish this one. It will be the first quilt I have kept, all the rest are around the UK with friends. Slow, and a perfect no spend activity. After this one, I have a couple of 'retired tee shirt' quilts to do, machine piecing, including crumb blocks where needed, backed with pieced fleece left over from other quilts. For the kids I use fleece backing to make them well and truly machine washable to be 'grunge proof'.
The house looks bomb struck at the moment as I am trying to generate some income by selling things I no longer need. Selling my Portmeirion Botanic Garden pottery, and some other stuff that my mum no longer needs, so lots of screwing up newspaper to send stuff off into the world.

I started a sinking fund for replacing appliances. Worry that my washer may die some day. It costs about $1,000 US or slightly more for a washing machine. Yikes! Ive got to be ready.
