      I get you but the FNX 45 is a hell of a gun compared to a standard Glock for a P365. You get what you pay for. The fact that a 45ACP has that round capacity is nuts and awesome!

    I have a 509 CC Edge and love it. It has been 100% reliable so far with a mix of factory ball, defense and reloaded ammo. I shot this side by side with a friend’s 509 tactical and the comp made this a much flatter shooter and it’s factory flat trigger is very good on the CC Edge.

    I think it has everything to do with the trigger. 90% of the community are just trigger snobs and completely ignore everything else about the firearm. Which is why Caniks, Walther, and CZ's are always at the top of everyones list. Every time you bring up a 509 in a forum the response is always "The trigger sucks though." Like okay, its a military grade firearm, not a competition pistol. The trigger is heavy because of stressful situations (i.e. NYPD had mandatory 12lb triggers for decades) and longevity of the parts. Walthers for example have excellent relatively light triggers out the box... But when they're pushed passed 20k their springs are known to go bad and cause reset problems because they were so light to begin with. FN's fixed their striker problem awhile back just like Sig did with their 365. Go ask any gun rental range how their 509's are holding up. I've seen several past 60k with no parts breakages or *reported* malfunctions, just recoil spring changes. LAPD tested this along with 6 other pistols to 22k rounds. The 509 was the only to not have an optic backout and also had zero malfunctions. These things are absolute TANKS, but the masses hate the trigger so its been pushed to the wayside...

      Great post there, Jimmy. Also, most in the "community" are just obsessed with price! Your point about FN being primarily a military weapons supplier is a very well-made point! Spot on! The P90 and more lately the Five seveN have been in military/LE/Special Forces use for decades, and even in civilian markets, demand exceeds supply quite often, even with expensive ammo. They are obviously doing something right! They just don't care a fig about "ratings" and quantities sold etc. They just offer great weapons to those who appreciate their craft! Like me, and I've owned FNs for nearly 50 years! Well done there, mate!

      @xsevo1028 Před rokem +2

      Ok, but the trigger being better on other guns outweighs the benefits of the 509's being more durable. How long do you think it'll take your average shooter to get to 20k+ rounds and start needing to replace parts? I'd much rather have to fix/replace a thing or two around the 20k round mark and have a good trigger, than have something last longer but the trigger sucks.

    3 reasons.
    1) they had the striker repeated failure on the popular 509 model. It's fixed now after a couple years with a solid piece, I can vouch for it, my FN 509 midsize was purchased in October 2022.
    2) Customer Support. It sucks not good still.
    3) it failed the water test more then the glock. I think the new striker has chanels for water so it doesnt plunge it. Somone needs to test it to find out.
    Other then that moving forward they are great guns.

    • @OEDArms
      @OEDArms  Před rokem

      I agree with your number one and three. Thats why I put an APEX striker in mine for peace of mind. The water test is kind of a bummer, but the gun is a reliable piece if you don't go swimming with it lol. As far as your second point, my interaction with FN customer service was great. I don't know if it was because I was able to drop the gun off at their headquarters or what. But they were fast and very nice.

    I bought the first Glocks when they originally came out and had several generations of them. Ultimately, though, I always felt like they just didn't have the quality and feel I wanted. I've had the FNX 45T for years now. From the factory it's 15+1. You can also add the Apex mag extensions to take them to 17+1 rounds of .45ACP goodness. This is a fantastic gun to shoot. It is my ATF .45. Period. I also have the 509T Compact. I've upgraded it with the Apex trigger (which is superb), striker and mag release. I run a Holosun 507K X2 on it. The only thing I wish it had was a manual safety, like the 45T. I have a Sig p365 as well, but prefer the FN.
    As for why people don't cover FN? I can only assume its because they aren't buying off reviewers like Sig (presumably) does. It has surprised me how when i talk to people about FN just how many people don't know who they are, or rather, how few people actually *do* know. FN - You need a better marketing campaign for your excellent firearms!

    When I first started shooting everyone who I went to the range with had a favorite brand, gun, type, etc. I went to the range with tons of friends and rented guns trying everything I could get my hands on. For me, fit was important, as well as how the gun felt. I found I shot best with some of the larger competition guns, which is to be expected. Almost every time I mention the FNX45 people told me the HK45 was better. But I liked the feel and preferred the FNX by far. It's a lot of personal preference I think. Some people swore to me that glocks sucked or were over rated. I think they are fine, right on part with a few others I shot in the same price range & category.

    Nice vid. Up here in Canada it's really interesting. The FN 509 standard model sells for $600, and I got rid of mine because when they released here, there weren't any trigger options but that stock trigger is the worst on the market. Gritty sludge is the best description. The optic ready Tactical version has the threaded barrel, the night sights and optic mount, and are selling for $1400-1500, and they come with that same garbage trigger!! It's mind-blowing!

    I own 2 FN handguns and love them, but the reason why alot of people don't like to buy FN handguns is because every time they come out with a new model the old models become obsolete, and u can't find parts for them because FN stops making parts for their older models, is to where most other companies continue to make the older models and parts for them as well. FN's are great handguns but FN needs to keep making parts for their older models that people spent their hard earned money on. And also FN needs to offer more aftermarket parts as well, they especially need to offer aftermarket barrels so u can have threaded and non threaded versions. I hope this answered your question. Thanks for the great video appreciate it and stay safe.

    Hello, german here. I think they aren't talked about because of the brand. FN is a name you only really know if you're a gun enthusiast. Here in germany, we don't have as many firearms, but most people have heard of Glock, Sig Sauer or Heckler & Koch at some point. It's kinda like with cars. Everybody has heard of Ferrari or Lamborghini. But brands like Pagani or DeLorean fly under the radar.

    Interesting video and some very valid points. I've never been a fan of the FNX-45 and with the exception of the ready optics mount. I think the HK45 is a much better pistol from an ergonomics standpoint, and the DA trigger is awful. It's a combat handgun and should be run DA/SA. I also don't care for the safety/decocker shape or position on the FNx-45. I don't love the HK45's either but all my hammer-fired HK's are LEM (DAO) triggers so its a moot point. As for the 509 I've been on the verge of buying one several times, and my only real complaint with them is that mags consistently didn't drop free for me on the one's I've shot. I am however planning on getting a 545 in the near future.

    I think why the FN models aren't as popular has a bit to do with price, as they tend to have an MSRP over that of firearms in direct competition, but I feel the biggest reason is due to the lack of military and LEO usage. the P320, and its predecessor the P250, were not widely popular until its adaptation as the M17/M18 by the US military. Since that time, the P320 has rocketed in popularity to rival that of the Glock 17 and 19, while only being since 2017 when it was submitted and chosen in the US Modular Handgun System Trials.
    Although the FNX has a military linage being designed and submitted to the Joint Combat Pistol Trials in 2005, but ultimately being dismissed to allow the M9 to remain in service, I feel a lot of it's character and cult like popularity comes from that connection. Unfortunately, the downside to this lack of popularity leaves these firearms, especially the FNX line, devoid of vast third party support.
    As an owner of the FNX 45 Tactical, I absolutely love this handgun. I do find it very surprising that a handgun like this, essentially a full sized combat handgun, has minimal support for holsters and duty grade equipment, when it very much feels designed to be a duty firearm.

Hearing a lot about FN strikers - hmmm; hopefully not another issue, already had one out of the box. A FN fan-boy channel was pissed at me for talking about an issue. It’s a shame that people are not getting all of the information out to new shooters to FN pistols. Liked your Full honest review. FN doesn’t have the street cred with many shooters because of price point; and this “striker” problem I am unfortunately hearing about. $900 is a good chunk of money to pay for a pistol and to have an issue out of the box and now potentially a striker issue,…glocks and sigs not having these at that price point (but I get that glock owners are also changing out trigger groups and those horrid plastic sights). (If you haven’t had a silencer before my best advice is; unscrew the caps a little and if it has the ability to be a shorter “can” then also unscrew that section a little directly after your shooting session at the range - this will minimize potential carbon lock once you get home. Your choice of silencer will tell you a “round count” for cleaning baffles and such; example 900 rounds - - my advice is that you look at closer to 500-600 rounds. If you wait to long or shoot “dirtier” ammo you will regret not cleaning it soon - they do like to lock up and getting the baffles out can be a Pain in the ass (so basically earlier is better). Also, it (silencer) will be a thing a beauty when you get it, all shiny and sexy,….just remember it is a tool and it is going to get scratched and dirty,…so, do a good cleaning but you don’t need to try and return it to a pristine state (you will enjoy it more and your blood pressure will also be lower). I still do not understand how anyone can justify the quality/reliability of Glocks... They're not "more" reliable, and from a shooter ergo standpoint they're one of the worst in the main lineup of duty-oriented 9mm options (M&P 2.0, 320, G17, 509, VP9).

The updated striker looks almost identical to the Apex HD, so not a necessary replacement. People baulking at the price are the same people that spend 700 bucks on a PSA 556 and wonder why they can't even get 6 inch groups at 100 yards. The striker issue really hurt FN, and to follow that is that this weapon does have water submersion issues. Those two things are huge deal breakers esp for the price point…. I’m an FN guy and I love my 509c compact tactical. I have over 5k rounds through her and I’ve had 0 issues. It’s 100 stock. No new striker no apex trigger. The water submersion issues I have never done this personally but I intend to sometime in the near future. That said those two things hurt this platform. Ppl don’t want to buy a 900$ gun to have to turn right around and replace the striker or get an apex trigger installed, or eve have to worry about water submersion issues. Got over 5k through her of everything from handloads, to reloads, to steel, to steel and nickel, to +p, 100gr all the through 147 and not one malfunction. I love the stock trigger. It got better the more I put through her. Stock striker. Now that I'm moved and settled I'm gonna test my own gun on the whole water submersion issue and see what happens.

    The tactical is nice with no optic or accessories is it a realistic personal carry or is it to wide or bulky?

      It's bulky. If you're considering carrying this concealed, it will most likely have to be OWB and with a jacket or suitable cover garment. You're never going to be able to t-shirt cover it, or carry appendix comfortably with such a long slide and barrel.

    There are a lot of valid reasons in the comments. However, I believe the price point of FN are usually above others making them not as widespread or massively owned per-say. but in most cases(not all) you get what you pay for when it comes to firearms and the quality of FN firearms are second to none in most areas where materials used is concerned. But most likely they Are not paying out big checks to youtubers for a positive review outlook and prefer to let the firearm do all the speaking for itself-in a sense. IDK but I can't wait to get my hands on that FN 545 TactiCOOL

    I bought the FX 45 tactical and had the most buyers remorse of any handgun I’ve ever purchased. It is weak in several areas that are essential to a long term combat pistol, is makes a fine nightstand gun and range toy. That being said, I would not want to take it into a combat zone, And yes I have been in a combat zone.
    For my money, the HK 45 USP and the Glock 21 are far more durable .

    I have Sig, FNs, Glocks, S&W etc... It's the price.... More people have sig p320s, glock 19s etc imo because of price point. People don't always want to pay $1200 for a pistol. Size is another factor my FNX Tactical is obviously a very large full size pistol, everyones switching to compacts, smaller, less weight same functionality and with round counts getting higher the gap between full size and compact is marginal. I think a fair comparison would be the FNX Tactical and like a Sig p227 Tacops. Similar price point, size, round count. I have the p226 Tacops and I love it. Again they're $1200 pistols?
