MOSCOW, RUSSIA - First time in Russia, and I was very excited to be in Moscow, and go on an ultimate Russian food tour of Moscow. Get ready to eat everything from a sturgeon cooked for the Russian Kings to the most epic beef stroganoff in Moscow on this ultimate Russian food tour.
Big thank you to Dmitry from Value of the Moment (valueofthemoment.com/) for taking us around Moscow. Check him out for tours in Russia, especially in and around Murmansk.
Here’s where we ate in Moscow on this Russian food tour:
Grand Cafe Dr. Jhivago (goo.gl/maps/bJrU2RBqGaBigAy78) - Located right across the street from the Red Square, this is a legendary cafe in Moscow. You immediately feel the luxury Russian style here - with its red and pure white interior. Food was delicious, and a great place for breakfast to get this Russian food tour started. 3,430 RUB ($53.78) - Total price for everything
Red Square and The Moscow Kremlin - Easily the most important and famous area of Moscow is the Red Square, home to the Moscow Kremlin. This is the center of the city, where all roads lead, and where the heads of Russian government live. There’s nothing like walking around the Red Square, and also seeing the amazing sight of St. Basil's Cathedral.
Soviet Ice Cream and Stolovaya 57 (goo.gl/maps/bzftcr3sZKY5GftW6) - Located on the edge of Red Square is the GUM shopping mall and within the mall, you’ll find an old ice cream shop that serves an original Soviet recipe for ice cream. It’s worth a stop and pretty good. Additionally, Stolovaya 57 is a Soviet food canteen and one of the budget food options at Red Square, Moscow. 665 RUB ($10.43)
Cafe Pushkin (g.page/Restaurant-Cafe-Pushki...) - To contrast our Soviet meal, we then went to Cafe Pushkin, a luxurious Russian restaurant, and a symbol of a luxury home. The setting is incredible and the food and service lived up to its name. Here is where you’ll find one of the best versions of Russian beef stroganoff on earth, and a type of sturgeon (a sterlet) stuffed with crab that was a symbolic food of the Tsars of Russia - Russian Kings! An amazing meal, fantastic service, and iconic restaurant. 10,980 RUB ($172.15) - Total price
Danilovsky Market (goo.gl/maps/SWfe4gQCBS5ZQKCq8) - Moscow, Russia - Next up on this Russian food tour, we headed to Danilovsky Market, a large farmers market, to explore and we sampled some delicious pickles.
Varenychna №1 (goo.gl/maps/9ASMTcctM2qY8T2v7) - Soviet Restaurant - To end this Moscow food tour, we went to one more Soviet restaurant, this time, a Soviet style apartment. Again, food was delicious, with an array of dishes from around the former Soviet Union.
An amazing day and Russian food tour in Moscow!
Thank you again to Dmitry from valueofthemoment.com/

When i was a teenager, my russian friend's mom made me blueberry vareniki for breakfast. Best breakfast i've ever had in my life to this day.
Emily Sheffer varenici with russet farmers cheese are amazing too
we also have vareniki with mashed potatoes, mushrooms, or different types of meat, cabbage etc. You can always found a recipe of vareniki in the Internet
The best vareniki are lenivie vareniki or LAZY dumplings. Its dough mixed with farmers cheese, cut into small pieces and boiled. Then you put butter on them, and i sprinkle sugar on them. The best russian breakfast ever. I grew up in Moscow with my family and my grandma and mom made it for me..when i go to FL to visit my mom, she still makes them for me. The best!

From what i've seen and tasted myself, Russian cuisine is extremely underrated.
especially russian cuisine adopts a lot of flavours from neighbouring countries, like Georgia, Uzbekistan and they are also super delicious :]
I would love to go over there and try the cuisine.

Moscow looks so clean, the architecture is quite sophisticated yet its historical past was a nice backdrop. Very nice.
I’ve traveled all over Europe, S America, Middle East, and some Asian countries, but Russia is by far my favorite country to visit…not just the food and amazing history but the people are by far the most hospitable and friendly--once they get to know you!! Much respect to Russian people!!
Unless you're ukrainian I guess.
@@MegaBallen1 Parked my car near a Moscow supermarket yesterday and looked at car number plates. Half of them were Ukrainian, Latvian, Georgian, Estonian, etc
@@MegaBallen1 Nationalistic movements were frowned upon by the government (and still are but not as much) and were heavily discouraged from continuing their existence around 2010, give or take a few years. This was done mostly by movies, media campaigns and filmmaking laws. This was done for the most part because there's a hell of a ton of ethnicities and nationalities living inside the borders and to counter regional tensions between some of the more hostile cases. Those individuals that were discouraged from sharing their ideology either changed themselves and formed a different opinion on their fellow countrymen, layed low or avoided prosecution by moving to places where they would be either allowed or just not prosecuted for their actions and ideals. Ukraine was the easiest option out of all neighbours since even though it's a different country they still behave mostly the same way and speak the same language. Whatever happened after that differs from country to country. Kazakhstan for example has their own nationalist ideas among a huge part of the population so they wouldn't take those "preaching outsiders" kindly.
As of today's RF you'll only get in trouble with your average joe in 2 cases:
1)You're misbehaving - something happened and you either wouldn't want to or just couldn't properly explain yourself and the guy didn't know any better and thought you're being rude or disrespectful
2)They're just an asshole - self explanatory (but there IS a lot of assholes though, they're just usually busy doing dumb stuff and mostly come out at evenings or at night)
Come visit if ya want and look around, you'll see exactly what i mean by all of the above.
@@MegaBallen1 dude, several millions of ukranians moved to Russia since 2014, that's when the war really started. Nobody cares where you're from as long as you respect Russia and our people. Which not so many ukranians do, yet still nobody beats them on the street, if that was what you meant.

You never really see Russian places to eat in this country the USA because of people's attitudes and this is way before Ukraine debacle but you never ever seen except New York and maybe California other places but it was not prevalent and that is because of our attitude towards the government just like from food from my rock and iron oh my goodness the food and those two countries are so delicious you would shut up right away because the people and not the government as we know the people are warm and loving and willing to give because they want you as an American to sample what they really have to offer.

@@crabmusic1I’m sorry but this isn’t true at all. Russian cuisine didn’t take hold in the United States because of a war that started 2 years ago? No. Russian cuisine is inherently simply and unpopular in most of the world. There’s very little Russians can do to make their cuisine exciting. Up until 30 years ago you could barely receive bread, or after that - something to put on your bread. It’s silly to suggest there’s some anti-Russia reason for this. It’s simple - they don’t have great food.

Beautiful country. Looks very clean. Really admire how important, the maintenance of their culture is to them. 🇯🇲🇬🇧

“Pushkin Cafe”: if you are unfamiliar with Alexandre Pushkin, he is worth your while; I’ve only read his excellent poetry in English translation but I hear it’s even more fabulous in the original Russian. He lived a fascinating life, wrote both poetry and fiction, and his great-grandfather, an African slave freed by Peter the Great, rose to the rank of General. Pushkin stupidly threw his life away in a duel, which was so common then.

swissfoodie I’ve been in the US for almost 14 years.. I really haven’t thought about the food at all until I saw this and suddenly I could (in some odd way) taste some of those popular simple dishes! I love to cook, so maybe one day:)
Nina, cold borscht is great on a hot summer day. My grandpa use to eat my grandma's black bread with pork fat and salt. Beef stroganoff is Russian
@@swissfoodie3542NYC, Miami or LA have lots of Russian restaurants and groceries. Many shops ship all over the US
Love Mark's wifes happiness in seeing candy so cute. Everyone needs a little sweetness in life. Happy to see she's more on the video's recently.

Is this still a thing 😂 I remember even marks early videos people would always say happy to see she’s in more of the videos where is marks wife why is she not in the video enough haha somethings don’t change then
The guide Dmitri is top ! He knows his town history and it's food culture! Also they went to top notch restaurants and badger ones ...so you have a vast array of Russian kitchen!
Bravo!🏆
Absolutely love russian food. Very underrated cuisine
Спасибо большое! Что вам нравится особенно? Я ем многие кухни мира и готова принимать новое! Из русской кухни люблю котлеты и пюре
These russian dishes reminds me somehow of Swedish food from the 1930s/40s/50s, especially the types served at holidays. I say that as a compliment more than anything else, as I love long living traditions. (Younger swedes has largely forgotten these kinds of foods and replaced it with tacos, kebab, pizza, falafel, sushi, halomi, nudlar, ramen, etc.)
And it is not surprising, because both our countries are Nordic ones. Even folk name Russian came from the name of one of the ancient Sweden tribes, Russ.
Similar climate, similar food. I've been to Finland, Russia and Sweden and the traditional food struck me as the most similar among them. Did you know that both Finland and St Petersburg used to be a part of Sweden?
Also you right about foreign food, it wasn't easy to find a place with Swedish cuisine in Stockholm.
@@andro7862 Well, not agree about Saint-Petersburg) You are right in that extend that it used to be a Swedish stronghold, but the name was different. But yes, you are right, Russians took this territory over after Nordic War.
@@Oyayebuyu It was called Nyenskans. There are still some remains of it near Большеохтинский bridge, right?
@@andro7862 Nyenschantz was located 5 KM east of the original St. Petersburg fortress. Nowadays it is the part of St. Petersburg, of course, but that were completely different settlements back then. I don't even mention, this was the Russian land before Sweden occupied it in 1611 during the Times of Troubles and established Nyenschantz.
You gotta love the fact that the longest line in the luxury mall is the Soviet canteen. ❤️
This is one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen on CZcams. I know very little about Russia or it's food, but damn, I think I need to seek out a Russian restaurant in every city now!
