You know what if you look it up Spidey probably fought the Hulk more times than the Thing and may have as many victories over Hulk as Ben does.
I love how Rhino was more of a Hulk foe than a Spidey foe. I do love how much he evolved since the 2000's, especially when he met Oksana and the tragedy that followed.
Then he became friends with Miles Morales
Never knew Rhino was so prominent in the earlier Hulk comics. I would love to see a video covering M.O.D.O.K. since he’s been tossed around Captain America, Iron Man, and Hulk titles!
MODOK was done dirty by the MCU. A proper showdown btw him & hulk would be frankly - Monstrous
I always just considered him a collective Avengers villain
It's almost as if Rhino was a Spider-man villain when he was created, then they gave him an apearence in the hulk, but the hulk writers loved using him, so they made him a hulk villain, but then around 1986 marvel finally remembered, "Oh wait a minute, we created this guy to be a Spider-man villain, we gotta put him in more spider-man stories!"

I am a Spider-Man freak and never had any idea how far he got away from being mostly a Spidey villain. That's a huge Amazing title appearance gap. Awesome research!

Rhino is a very fun villain, I always associated him with Spidey because of all of his appearences is his tv shows, really interesting to see that he actually is a major Hulk villain.
As a kid without access to the comics from the 60s/ 70s, I didn't know until now that his first appearance in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon mirrored his first appearance in the Spider-Man comics with the whole stealing of space rocks and John Jameson's involvement.
Until the last several years, I either didn't know or didn't remember that Kingpin started off as a Spidey villain and that Sabertooth started off as an Iron Fist villain.
Two of my favorite comics featuring the Rhino are Incredible Hulk #378, when Rhino fights gray Hulk at a mall at Christmas and they have to play Santa and Santa's helper for kids,
and Amazing Spider-Man annual #28, that tells an interesting character story for Rhino.

The 90s Spider-Man series did a really great job after being comic accurateas they could while still creating their own path. It was so good.
And Sabretooth is such a great candidate for this type of video. He was planned to be my first one but I've changed things up as you can tell. The Sabretooth one is mostly written just not recorded. Sabretooth is one of my favorite character so I really want to do him justice.

I can't speak for today, but the spirit of villains going wherever they wanted was still alive as far as the 2000's, even if nowhere near the same degree as the earlier days.
Mysterio used Daredevil as his last act when he found out he was dying.
Ultron became a Cosmic Marvel villain in Annihilation: Conquest (albeit, with aims to go back to Earh and still hating Hank Pym).
Norman Osborne became directly of SHIELD and tangled and worked with just about everyone and Spidey wasn't even instrumental in him losing that position.
But even those stories still acknowledged that these villains are normally associated one hero or team, not like Rhino's tenure with Hulk coming out of nowhere and feeling no need to explain anything. On one hand, keeping a consistent rogue's gallery can make more emotional developments in characters and makes it easier to make adaptations of the heroes. On the other hand, most super villains don't have the mindset to be hung up on one hero, things feel more interconnected when people can go anywhere and villains like Kingpin and Sabre benefited greatly from trying out another hero (though, Sabretooth over-indulged and now rarely leaves Wolverine stories).
You strike me as the kind of guy who likes spending time on Marvunapp (Marvel Universe Appendix).
Also, I happen to own a reprinting of the Rhino's first appearance. It came with a Rhino action figure. Please continue to make videos about Spider-Man villains I have reprintings of old comics for (I left a similar comment in your Scorpion video; not sure if you remember).
Would that I could meet up with you in real life and fall down a discussion rabbit hole about how the concept of the shared universe in Marvel comicbooks gradually became less... pronounced, I suppose.

Great job! I did an overview on Rhino but glossed over his Hulk stuff and focused on Spidey connections. I still think he's more of a Spidey villain because he got a lot more character development (a little in Deadly Foes, girlfriend arc, and Flowers for Rhino). Be well 👍🏼👍🏼👊👊
I think you highlighted his Hulk stuff well, you also addressed how he goes to thr bathrooms so...
It's a bit like the Sandman. Sandman fights Spider-Man like twice in the early going, but then makes an appearance in Strange Tales when it was a Human Torch solo book.
The Torch wants to fight the Sandman, but Sandy wants no part of him because he's not Spider-Man. Finally Johnny was able to goad Sandman into fighting him, and the Torch wins.
After that The Sandman joins the Frightful Four and becomes a Fantastic Four villain for the next couple of decades.

I knew Rhino was a big Hulk villain for a while, but didn't realize that he disappeared from Spidey comics for twenty years! That's crazy! I'm wondering now this applies to other media, and if maybe it's those adaptations which helped maintain his Spider-Man villain status. I know he had a good episode (or two?) in the 60s show, and of course appeared in the 90s cartoon (after his return in the comics). I haven't seen either of 80s cartoons: was he in those? Then of course came his video game appearance in Spider-Man PS1, where he was a bit of a joke (which I enjoyed as a kid).
The development he's had in the past 10-15 years has been really great, and I love seeing Miles and Cap accept him as a hero (even if Rhino himself has yet to accept that).
He did. They've done a good job post 90s of really developing and fleshing out some of the lesser villains, to such a point that it feels like a lot of these developments were always a part of them
I'm really loving these so far. Hope you do some of Spiderman's more obscure villains like one of my favorites Hammerhead.

young me also liked the rhino look & sought out the issues you cover (though the earliest I had to settle for reprints, like marvel tales, or collections)
I recall a "heat of re-entry melting the costume onto him, trapping him again" bit in there somewhere, but it might well have been after the fact/like a no-prize.
The inconsistencies come from time between uses, carelessness & the initial appearances changing from later ones (his power ups often seemed ignored later on). Plenty of good fun brawls though & sometimes some heart, too!

It would've made more sense if Rhino were instead in The Amazing Spider-Man 1 as the second mutant titan alongside Lizard.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on the other hand needed Vulture even more as the beginning-to-end surprise villain.
I would like to see a serious story where Spider-Man and the Hulk have to team up to fight the Rhino.
Rhino must hold back somewhat against Spidey if he’s able give Huk some degree of challenge.
I read that first Hulk story reprinted in what I think was an issue of Marvel Super Heroes (one those old Marvel series from the 70s that reprinted older stuff) years ago.

i'm not too familiar with these characters (even the Hulk), but one thing i noticed about the story line shown here is that it must be what the '70s Colorforms Incredible Hulk set was based on. as a kid i knew The Rhino from the old Spider-Man cartoon, but had no idea who The Leader or The Abomination were.

Sabretooth was actually the first one of these I'd written out. But he's one of my favorite characters so I want it to be perfect before I move ahead haha. But yes it won't be only Spider-Man (or Marvel villains) and Sabretooth will be coming sooner rather than later

This was an excellent trip down memory lane - as well as an intro to some face-offs + art I’d never seen before (!) the Defenders battle Id seen the cover but never the inside are.
Thanks for this and if Marvel studios would just consult knowledgeable fans more - I don’t see how they could keep pumping out garbage. They should have a “Die-hard fans only” rule for whomever directs their films or tv shows. Every studio should - WB & DC included

Earth 616/ main universe Rhino is Russian. His real name is Aleksei Sytsevich. But this is revaled in later stories.
Yeah. It was a retroactive thing. The first 40 years of his existence he was not Russian. Hence the Brooklyn Accent in a lot of his Animated appearances
It actually wasnt MJ's first appearence, it was the first time the readers could she how she looks, she appeared twice before but we didnt see her face.

I actually read once that his suit has little holes in it that he uh “goes” through. Also I’m really curious about that baseball comic since I’ve read about it before. I’ve also read about a Hulk comic where Rhino no joke is a mall Santa. And I think he ends up fighting either the grey Hulk,who I think was Hulk how he was when he first appeared,or the Joe Fixit Hulk who’s like the gangster Hulk(Unless they’re the same thing, it’s always confused me).

I like to picture one of those old timey poop flaps on the back of his costume......well, I don't like to......but either way I didn't see one.
I can only assume part of his enhancement was the ability to metalized his food or whatever to not produce waste
