Having recordings like this freely available are so useful to recorder players like me. I'm at best an intermediate player and am self taught, but I have been practicing the first movement. It's especially good to hear the ornamentation.

And me! I like that this performer doesn't overdo it with the ornamentation. Some change the piece so much it's hard to hear the actual music. This is perfect.

The Flemish harpsichord, pianoforte and tangent piano player Guy Penson (b. 1958) studied piano with Claude Coppens and harpsichord with Johan Huys at the Conservatory of Ghent (Flanders, Belgium) in the late 1970s, was a laureate of the Musica Antiqua competition in Bruges in 1980 and built up an interesting career since then.
He has played and plays in a series of Belgian ensembles (Les Enemis Confus, Ricercar Consort, Ricercar Academy, Collegium Instrumentale Brugense, Il Gardellino, Il Fondamento, RedHerring...), has formed and forms duos or trios with Belgian singers (Greta De Reyghere, Guy de Mey, Ann de Renais...) and fellow musicians (the harpsichordists Johan Huys and Jan Devlieger, piano player and wife Sylvia Bernier, the lute player Philippe Malfeyt, the recorder players and/or flutists Patrick Denecker, Frédéric de Roos, Patrick Beuckels, Tomma Wessel, Geert van Gele, Ruth van Killeghem and Marc Grauwels, the cellists Jan Sciffer, Rainer Zipperling, Hidemi Suzuki and Sébastien Walnier, the late gamba player Sophie Watillon, the oboe players Paul Dombrecht and Marcel Ponseele, the violin players Florence Malgoire and Dirk Vandaele...) and has participated and participates in interesting and innovating musical projects in Belgium or abroad (Concerto Köln, Orchestre des Champs Élysées, Harmonia Sacra...) when not working on his solo projects (concert series, recordings...) or teaching and accompanying his students (at conservatory and academy level).
The repertoire he feels most comfortable with and did most research on spans from Renaissance to Classical and early Romantic music, but he did occasionally explore both earlier (late medieval) as contemporary music as well.
