Do you plant turnip greens, mustard greens, too? If so, show a video please 😊
Do you freeze your collard greens? If so, what steps do you take if any before freezing.
Just subscribed to your channel! So glad I found you!😊
@@angelacalloway8125 Thank you, Angela. 😊 ❤️
@@katehopkinsbrent5573 I chop it up and freeze in ziplock bags. When I'm ready to cook, I thaw it out and cook it. Thank you for watching, Kate. ❤️ ❤️
Hey sweetie, for your followers that don't like the stems to eat you can chop them up and dehydrate. Then make a powder for smoothies, to add to soup, sprinkle on salads, etc for extra flavor and extra vitamins 💚
What a brilliant idea!! I'm going to try that. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊 ❤❤
Thanks for that tip..🥰.. I have been put in my stems in my compost bin..but I think I will dry some next time to save to put in a smoothie.🥰
Woww that's good to know what else we can do with the stems.❤
Thanks for the dehydrate idea! I usually juice the stems and add to my Morning juice.
Thank you!! What a great way to minimize waste. I've been composting, but trying to find ways to get to zero waste.
I DID NOT KNOW that collard greens had seeds like this! Ingenious. FREE FOOD. I love it!
I got so many plants from my seeds.
This is a brilliant and sustainable start to growing produce at home. More people could do this and save a lot of money.
We eat a lot of greens and decided to create a Garden Room in the house. It started on a wall, then moved into a spare room. In there we are able to grow food all year, and in the summer, I'll put out plant pots that I want to bolt and set seed.
We grow herbs, greens, broccoli, radishes, turnips, carrots, and beets to also have their greens. We also grow scallions, celery, cherry tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes, and sugar snap peas. The outdoor garden is planted for the season for potatoes, onions, green beans, cucumbers, squash, maize, millet, leeks, and more.
That's awesome.👏 😊 Thank you for sharing. ❤️ ❤️
All the veggies I buy have seeds, which go up on my "save shelf" to go into the garden the next (very early) spring. tomatoes, cantaloupe, pumpkin, watermelon etc... Thank you for sharing your instructions! EVERYONE needs to learn to grow their own!
Way to go!! 😊 Thank you for watching. ❤❤
I grow collards every year, haven’t bought them in years! Organic and taste so much better than stores
So true. Thank you for watching, Denise. ❤️ ❤️
H there, thank you for this valuable info. How do you prevent the bugs from eating the leaves?
@@purposefulwhit3626 try mosquito netting maybe..
Wow! I was raised eating collards, but you taught me a lot I didn't know about growing them. A pot of fresh collards cooked with pork seasoning, along with a pot of cooked potatoes and a cake of freshly baked cornbread (baked in a cast iron skillet) is my idea of comfort food. Thank you!
That sounds delicious. 😊 Thank you for watching, Cherilynne.❤❤
Oooh my yess😂
That's how my mom cooked them. And sometimes she used turkey meat.
@@bettydiggs2563 I’ll have to try seasoning collards with turkey meat. I’m sure it’ll be wonderful!
Thank you so much.😊
Thank you so much for this video. Nobody has shown what the pods look like. Or when to harvest them. Excellent video. ❤❤❤
You're welcome, Clynthia. Thank you for watching. ❤❤
So useful. Glad to learn this. I put collards in smoothies with banana, berries, ginger, almond milk and cinnamon. But when I feel nostalgic, collards with smoked turkey, pickled beets, chicken and hot water cornbread.
Very healthy combo. Thank you for sharing. 😊 ❤️ ❤️
Thank you for these amazing teaching videos.
Sis! I have never seen such an on-point collard green video! I had to subscribe! Thanks a million! 🥰
I'm glad it helped. 😊Thank you. ❤❤
Me too, thanks 😮
I like collard greens that are big and, some would say tough. I make rice and mix it with sesame tahini, garlic salt, lemon or lime juice, tumeric and onion and use it to make collard wraps with the fresh uncooked collards. Very good.
Collard wraps filled with baked spiced beans and bacon ❤❤❤❤❤❤.
That sounds delicious. 😊 Thank you for sharing, Martin. ❤❤
It’s our staple vegetable greens 🥬 in Southern Africa..we have different varieties like the others you showed on the store shelf.. we eat it with pap/ sadza/ nshima
That sounds delicious. 😊 Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
You can juice the young leaf raw with cucumber, ginger, moringa
That's a healthy combo. Thank you for sharing, Latoya. ❤❤
Several years ago my collard greens somehow survived the winter and grew 7 feet tall, flowered and went to seed. I wound up with a full pint of seeds that continue to sprout.
I cook collard greens by either sauteeing in bacon grease or pressure cooking them for 10 minutes then adding some salt and chopped ham.
My husband lived in The South of the USA for 26 years. I made collards for him yesterday, and he is so happy!
Thanks Sis. I store the stems with other veggie part not used to make a delicious vegetable broth or use it to cook with especially my bean s. I add collards to my lentils. TASTY!!!
That's a healthy combo, Aminah. Thank you for sharing. ❤️ ❤️
I really enjoy learning clever ways to garden with what we already have- I've used grocery produce to re-grow green onions and potatoes, and even ransacked my spice cabinet for things like cumin, chili peppers, and even goji berries! When I'm unsuccessful, it's usually because of my plants getting eaten by something, or just being in a very rough (cold, dry, sun-less) climate. When I grow from seed, I also want to keep seeds for next year, and the plant that I get the most out of is mustard! It made me happy to see this similar brassica and learn how easy it would be to go from the market to the garden!! Thank you for sharing!!!
I chop my collards and cook with chicken broth and turkey wings. I eat with cornbread 😋
That sounds yummyyyyyy!! 😊 Thank you for sharing, Rosie. ❤❤
This was informative. I knew CELERY would grow like that but I didn't know you could RE-GROW Collards like that, thanks! I would remind people, however, that VARIETY is still important because you need to know whether or not your grocery store is selling 'Open-pollinated' varieties of 'Collards' when it comes to being able to save the seed from them but all in all this is great information.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching. 😊❤❤
I cook cornbread and I fry my collards using real bacon bits
@@pathunter4988 Fried Collards! Never had that, wish you could do a video, lol!
People can buy from. Farmers market.
This is great to know. Thanks
💡 Great idea about re-planting greens. We do the same for Mustard Greens and Okra. The only problem is that most of the regular grocery stores don't have the roots attached to greens. You may have better luck at a Farmer's Market.
Thank you for the video. You can do almost the same with Beets You let them flower, seed, allow to get dried, and keep planting your seeds every year.
Great tip. 😊 Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
Great presentation on collard greens. Very informative. Thank you.
GOD is so GOOD and just wonderful! He gave us such an abundance of everything we need!!! I NEVER knew a leafy green vegetable had SEED PODS! WHAT?!?! 😂😂😂😂 WOW! GOD bless you for sharing this! Thank you so much! I’m so excited to start gardening and growing all kinds of things!
Thank you, Sis! Please keep teaching us about growing our African foods.
I will. Thank you for watching. 😊 ❤️
When did collard green become African food?
@charleeshaw7423
Honey, you need to start getting an education. How do you think collards became known to us in the US, Caribbean and other places? Primarily English settlers didn't show us how to use it.
@@charleeshaw7423Collard greens has long become the staple food in East Africa especially in Kenya. We call it sukumawiki in Swahili.
So nice to see the entire process. WELL DONE!
Thank you, Williams. ❤️ ❤️
Best collard green video very detailed thank you be blessed

Thank you so much. I learned so much from your ten minute video today. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. ♥
You're welcome, Lin. Thank you for watching. ❤️ ❤️
I love your accent and voice so much! I use collards to just cook up with some olive oil, garlic, and red pepper flakes, then sprinkle with lemon juice, simple and good! Also, Cookie and Kate’s recipe for lentil soup online has a lot of collards, and the whole family loves it! Thank you for the video, I planted my collard roots from collards I bought at the store, and they become two huge plants that I am about to get the seeds from them bolting, and this was the video I learned about that from!!! 🙏
In America, we call our dish "greens". Simple. It can be mixed greens, other type of greens or collards alone. Thanks for the knowledge, queen!
You're right. 😊 Thank you for sharing, Queen. ❤️ ❤️
I didn't know that you could just regrow a collard green like that, good to know, thank you!

I chop up my greens, put salt pork and or bacon in a pot, cook the pork, the greens and a slab of onion and 2-3cloves of garlic, cayenne pepper and a tablespoon of Franks hot sauce, cover cook them about 30 minutes then add a piece of cornbread, yum!!
Sounds yummy
I use my collard greens 🥬 in my smoothies and wow 🤩 I’m feeling so good since I’ve started using fresh and raw fruit and vegetables 🥗, I have had my collard green tree since my daughters were living at home, my tree was over six feet tall and the leaves 🍃 was huge and my collard greens stalk never went to seed instead it grew little collard green plants on the side of the stalk,I just remove the new sprouts 🌱 and plant them and sell some and give some away, God bless you for sharing
That's awesome. 😊 Thank you for sharing. ❤️ ❤️
Absolutely loved your video! You explained everything start to finish. The stuff nobody tells you. Thank you!!
Very educational! Thank you! ❤
You're welcome, Clarisse. Thank you for watching. ❤❤
Very good information, great walkthrough for growing collards. Collards used to be impossible to find in Montréal Canada, but thus last year, I was able to find them at the supermarket. It's nice to know that I can regrow them from stems. Our growing season is short, so being able to shorten by regrowing stems is an excellent option.
... And thank uou so much for sharing🙂
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching, Danielle. ❤❤

I love my collard with smoke turkey parts and some cornbread. I'm going to try this, I normally chop everything up.

I put collard greens or kale as a green for salads, in soups, in dips. Thank you for this important tutorial! Though I bought some tree collard this year and am very excited to try your tutorial.
Thank you so much for this video!! According to what your pods looked like when you harvested seeds, it’s almost time for me to do the same. I can hardly wait to grow from my seeds. Your videos are very helpful and easy to understand and do likewise. Thanks!!

Thank you, this was very informative and helpful. I love collard greens
I grew up on collard greens in my Southern Italian family. My mom would prepare with polenta and then fry/sautee slices in olive oil. As a kid to the month she passed away, I loved it! She always had a plate waiting for me.
I grew it in my yard, but never knew I can regrow the bunch!! I'm growing it in a pot right now bc I'm in zone 5 now, and it's not growing as big. It's a great veg!!!
Thanks for the video!!
Glad I found your video. Valuable information I certainly will use. Thanks so much
Great presentation, My 2nd year growing Kale, great sucess and 1st year growing Collards, thanks for the information
Thank for sharing i have to buy it and get the stem ,to plant, veggies is so healty for us .😮
You can do this with broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy etc..and to harvest the seeds, you keep the pods on the branch, cut the base off the branch and put the branch in a paper bag, and whack the branch against the inside of the paper bag..works like a charm
Thx a lot for teaching. Hope you more of them on different types of veggies
Thank you, Jacques. ❤️

Today I came across your site. I subscribed immediately, a few minutes into the video. City folks are so far removed from nature, growing food on their land is a foreign concept. I am thankful that my great grandpa had a farm when I was born. We moved away to the city, but went back every summer, holiday, and three weekends out of every month. Being surrounded by nature is a beautiful thing, serene. Lots of work too, and a good workout with purpose.
I can relate to you, lyon. My Grandma taught me how to garden organically.
My Grandma wasn't school educated. She had farming knowledge that was taught to her from the previous generation which she passed on to me.
My Grandma passed away but I hold on to the farming knowledge she gave to me. These skills have been very valuable to me over the years.
I'm very grateful for her. She was my best friend. Thank you for sharing, Lyon.❤️ ❤️
