  • Till Death Do Us Part - Wedding Day Murders
News of the Times Episode 53 | 1840
In today’s episode we look at three cases related to weddings.
Our first case from 1881 in Preston is perhaps one of the most heartless crimes we have researched. A very young girl of 16 has become pregnant from an older unemployed rake. He promises her marriage and allegedly makes all the arrangements. On their supposed wedding day, he suggests a drink first at the local inn. With lemonade in hand, she anticipates her big day, whilst he slits her throat and watches her die.
Our second case from 1897 is highly unusual and gives us a rare glimpse into the life of a Victorian Irish small farmer. His violent ghost is said to continue to stalk the area.
Our third case from 1905 comes from Germany. A honeymooning couple maxes out their financial bill. As the proprietor comes to their room to settle up, he is attacked, bound, and tied to the furniture. The honeymooning couple then leave to go to the next tourist location and do it again. And again, And again.
Three cases related to murder and wedding days is today’s episode of Wicked Wednesdays.
    Hosted by Robin Coles.

These were some intriguing and yet sad cases of weddings gone array. Case one, I don't believe this man meant to marry his teenage pregnant girlfriend. Justice was truly served for the heinous murder that he did to her. Case two, I really wish this case had been solved because I think we may have been shocked about who murdered this farmer/landowner. Case three, this couple had the audacity to run up so called honeymoon bills and try to escape without paying, they deserved to finally get caught, period! Great investigating, presenting, backstories, illustrations, photos, and videos, as well. Take care 🦋

Great to hear from you!! 4 days away!! yes, we agree - he had no intention at all of marrying the poor vulnerable girl! The second case - seriously, several cases in the papers of his violent ghost roaming about. We think it was the brother given the speed in which he sold the propoerty and land! The last case - we could not believe it when we read it! We have bene holding n to that one for months for a summer episode that was marraige related. Thank you, as always, for your wonderful support!🙏

@@newsofthetimes If there's a way to work it into a themed episode in future, some us would be interested in hearing more about the roaming of Kelly's ghost. If for no other reason, it would be pretty to think that brother of his passed some uneasy nights.
      Thanks for another excellent show.

@@bethanyherrera4787 great idea! 👍 We have a ghosts episode waiting n the wings - partly written - which we have been saving for october. We will make a note and see about incorportating kelly;s ghost. The stories are very odd - reports of ghostly physical assaults! More than one! Newspapers in the victorian age did not support the idea of ghosts. There were too many memories of the bad days under James Ist and the witch hunts. Also, the Victorians were very keen to promote science. Thank you - will def place in our db for incorporation in the future!😁

Of COURSE Simpson didn't intend to marry poor Anne!! Her father was quite right in being unhappy about the relationship!! I suppose, being a pub landlord, Mr Radcliffe would have seen all sorts of people in his pub, and was more than likely a good judge of character!!
Poor little Moses Kelly must've had a HORRIBLE shock finding his uncle brutally murdered!! I wonder what happened to the elderly mother?!
Those cheeky Komenskys!! They sure had some gall to do what they did!!
Well done on another BRILLIANT video, Robin!! 💕👏👍❤💞🤗

Maybe old ma Kelly wasn't as bedridden as she made out & shot her son, thinking to wound rather than kill him, as his marrying would take the sons attention solely away from her as she had been used to & not wanting another woman in the house, displacing her hold over her son, the dynamic changing, by the new wife, just a thought, or she was as deaf as a post not to hear a gunshot through a not so thick or heavy a door , seperating the two room's

As always I enjoyed your video. Regarding case 1 a 21 year old man gets a 16 year old girl pregnant and killed her on the way she supposed to there wedding ..... what was the age of consent if any at that time?

    • @newsofthetimes
      @newsofthetimes  Před 17 dny +5

Great question! 👍 Our understanding is that it was indeed 16 but there had to be parental consent which would have had to have been proven at the church. Something strange with the story - where is the father?? Was the girl gettng married iwthy no family or friends? Things were very different back then, but we find it odd. He had not actually planned any wedding at all. There were no banns put up in advance (three weeks before the notifications must go up about the planned wedding in case anyone disputes it) so obviously both father and daughter were not churnch goers. hmmmm. 🤔
