This chassis had so many terrific iterations!! I have a ‘93 Euro 3.8k M5 and then a ‘95 54Oi 6 speed (US MSport package ) and they are fantastic. And yet I also would love a 540ia like this. The transmission is indeed amazing and it’s such a great commuter car or highway cruiser.
My grandma has this car in her backyard in shit condition after the gas tank blew up. Hasn’t been driven in years but I’m planning on saving up money and getting it fixed
UK/US market issue, seems Aus and NZ cars didnt get affected at all. Regularly see 540i models with 350,000km+ on the original motors here, still with strong performance.
Such a classic. Sadly, not a lot are left in good condition.
And if you do find one expect to pay up for it!
