can't wait to learn more JKD!
I’ve got a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot of each other. Waiting on “official” news haha. See you soon bro.
Amazing stuff
Yooow love you bro, and love your vids
@@jakecastillo2872 ❤️
@@Tequn9q yup.
I first learned the curve step jab from you guys years ago. I finally realized the tremendous value of it when I competed in boxing as a southpaw--highly effective! Everyone should learn it.
Yes the curve step is a money shot that Sifu Ted Wong taught us. Our other JKD family line is Sifu Chris Kent. He taught us so much as well.
Amazing instructor. Great communicator with technical explanations. Learning a lot from this.
Thanks 🙏
Love that you learned from Ted Wong. That curve step is so useful. And very instinctive. Opens that angle to the jaw so well.
Sifu Ted had the best footwork. Sifu Chris knows JKD in its entirety better than anyone.
One thing I like with all the Jeff Chan videos is Jeff is learning these new things and some of these videos he literally has to stop be instructed. This makes me feel like I'm learning WITH Jeff! Not only that but some of these videos seem like what he's learning could be great to mix in with his style. Loving these videos and cannot wait for more!
This is fantastic man! High quality JKD right here. With a great fighter like Jeff tagging along, i hope JKD (and your channel) gains more attention.
Thanks a million 👍
In Judo, we use the lead hand and leg as well. And we intercept constantly. JKD applies to like you said, everything in martial arts. I have a background in boxing, karate, muay thai, and Judo. Judo is my base.
very well explained. great to see more guys from Ted's Group.
Great videos Sifu James keep them coming !
Aric we miss you! Hope fam is well. A lot more to come.
Great JKD great martial arts moves and teachings great video great channel great content great athlete great motivation and inspiration keep doing what you're doing and i am going to be ready to See more content from you
Thank you
You have observed the Real Tactics Very Well !!
Bro this was an awesome vid! I've never really seen or learned about JKD but I like the movements and strikes.
🙏
Beautiful, This Really Put the ART in Martial Arts
Thanks 🙏
Awesome class. Loved it!
Thanks
Definitely, you guys are doing just fine 👍👍👍👍👍
👍
Impressive, you are approaching the very Dangerous Levels of Combat ....
🙏
"lead with dominant hand"...FINALLY! This has always just felt more natural to me and I've been told it's wrong for so long 😭😭😭
It ain’t wrong if it works for you. It works for you if you like throwing a lot of lead side tools. Also in wrestling and with a blade you’d lead with dominant hand.
holy shit its Jeff Chan
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy wow really?! You gotta film more of Jeff and Teddy's spars. Such dynamite. The speed with control and high fight iq is just incredible.
@@voiceoverandmocapguy We have so much sparring footage and content with Jeff (teaching etc). Stay tuned.
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy Yes! He mentioned you guys had more rounds and full videos and exchanges. Love this stuff. Definitely subscribed.
@@voiceoverandmocapguy 👌
this coach is great xD yasssss!
Thanks 🙏
stop hits!!!! I remember in the book!
Yup interception!
Excellent video
Thanks
Nice Job guys, I will do a breakdown on your sparring now
Thanks for kinds words 💪
This is Gold wow perfectly explained and structured and combined 🪙
My dominant hand is the right but my dominant foot is the left. I'm going to apply this to both stances.
Nice
Awesome collab! Just discovered the Jack Dempsey/JKD powerline and it has significantly added more power. You can tell Jeff leaves power off the jab by slightly tilting his elbow up. Sifu, in comparison, keeps his punch straight from the hips which keeps more of the kinetic energy.
Yeah - elbow down gives protection, power, accuracy and the structure to transfer power into the shot and also telegraphs way less.
It also can cut through pretty much any turtle guard as well as exposing the outside lines...
I've had a lot of success with it

Excellent video, I was very impressed with the curve step I did not know that move even existed❗might have done it working out, but did not know the proper application for it ,or the name 🙏🏻 you demonstrated allot of technical movements, that are worthwhile to learn greatly appreciate you sharing this information 🗝 & I was not aware that you train under "TED WONG" I look at that with "esteem" left a like on the video 👁
Thank you. Sifu Ted Wong and Sifu Chris Kent are our lineage back to Bruce Lee. More content to come.
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy Magnificent looking forward to see more content 🙏🏻
I did not know about MR "CHRIS KENT" but I look him up and read that he's a world renowned JKD instrutor also that he trained under DAN INOSANTO also that he teaches savate, my opinion savate has some very wicked kicks ☺ I saw a interview you have with MR "CHRIS KENT" on your channel, & my humble opinion is he's a very knowledgeable and "enlighten" individual 👁
Sifu James is awesome.
Thank you. He loves martial arts. Training teaching sharing and learning.
Hey I'm training Muay Thai guy and I always wanted to learn JKD if I go to NY I'll drop by but ,what should I look for in a JDK school ?
Jeff I swear in the 5-6 yrs I've watched you you've done or shown these things lol I think you seem confused because your in South paw. As you well know it's good to practice our moves in opposite stance to make us even. As usual good work and just good to do a style where you kinda back or near novice..... You did deal with that JD fighter the other day so your trainings thumbs up lol
Sifu James, I believe in what you are preaching about the advantage of standing with your lead hand especially with weapons. I just have two questions. Hope you could help me out. How can you incorporate a gun in your stance? Cuz when I observe shooters, their stance is in the usual strong hand at the rear unless if they are in a strong hand position. Plus how can we make our lead leg low kick stronger? Thank you sifu! More power!
We’ll make a video about protecting your weapon. Gun or knife.
For kick we can make a tutorial on the lead leg and developing power. Here’s a clip kicking with the lead leg in class.

@@NYMartialArtsAcademy thanks so much sifu!
Damn I need to get back to basics, and come back home here.
P.S. Pro or not the three of you should be capable of kicking Ramsey Dewey's ass or any hater out there.
Come back home baby.
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy LOL!
I mind it back when i watch featherweight McGregor fight, i think he's emphasized one of these techniques, i remember it from max holloway fight. Idk if anyone of you guys maybe think the same i was 🤔
💪👍
Can you also lead with the lead leg?
Because my right leg is stronger but my left hand is stronger when punching
Yes you can
Amazing instruction. Love to train with you sometime
Anytime 👌
Amazing 👏👏🙌🙌💪💪👊👊🥊🥊
Thank you 👍❤️🙏👌💥
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy You're welcome 👏👏🙌🙌💪💪👊👊🥊🥊
I liked it - I only use strikes now alnost never i sure them off another stiry but I was in a fight club once and i loved jkd for that. And bjj but it was forever ago.
But i loved it - shouldnt you teach thevway bruce lee did on angled strikes and critical strikes ....ranges bridging?
I see the bridge ranges.
Cool thats fantastic accurate.
Where are the critical strikes?
Critical strikes refer to trapping and hook upper cut shovel punch range.
But there is like a focus on that in street.
Bridge carefully ... Cover or not ..
Criticai range ...
Critical range is made to lower reactionary gap and deal heavy damage.
So you have a wall of weapins like side kicks but you have penetrating bridge then critical range.
It was real effective in street.
I lead with my dominate hand as well. It only makes sense; it is the hand you use the most why not have that as your "best" side forward. Now, I am left-handed so when I do this everyone thinks I am just in an orthodox boxing position.
Has a few clear advantages
-jab will be better
-Lead hook more accurate and stronger
-lead leg kicks will be stronger
-if you have a knife better to normally lead with dominant hand
-when grappling leading with strong side is better.
Rear side tools suffer but not so much that we prefer rear side back.
Strong side forward works for us. Having footwork and a good jab works well. Esp when bare handed. Jabs win fights.
@Hard2hurt you need to get you fact straight about JKD. “Send location” Khabib voice. I’ll pay for your airfare and hotel. Come move with us.
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy completely agree with your reasonings, as I said in my comment. Same reasons I, as well, place lead hand as strong hand. The last couple lines are confusing however. ( @Hard2hurt you need to get you fact straight about JKD. “Send location” Khabib voice. I’ll pay for your airfare and hotel. Come move with us. ) this part I don't get? Sounds like your telling someone named Hard2hurt to get their facts straight about jkd and then offering to pay there way to come train with you? I'm not Hard2hurt I'm Zenshin Academy. Plus I didn't see any comments by someone named Hard2hurt on this video.
@@zenshinacademy4096 yes we are telling hard2hurt he’s not any good lol.
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy Ok, that is fine and all but my question is why did you add that to the conversation we were having? Not sure hard2hurt will read responses to my comments to you?
We’ll make a video to answer this better than we can via writing. Stay tuned and thank you for watching 👍
What is the difference between jkd boxing and boxing?
Strong side forward instead of strong side back. Emphasis on interception. Bladed stance some boxing style do other don’t. We fire a backfist that’s illegal and boxing. Most important footwork is different 👍
Jkd and Muay Thai are the way the truth and the light
Muay Thai is a good art. A lot of our students started with it. Great elbows knees kicks and ofc clinch game.
Jeff will be bring a lot of knowledge to Nymaa
@@NYMartialArtsAcademy very complimentary to the jun fan gung fu techniques/jkd philosophy.
What else besides jkd and Muay Thai train in this way? (Wrestling? Boxing? BJJ? Sambo? None of these are comparable holistically). When you get beyond sport or prearranged forms, there is nothing else one can do except become a shaolin monk. And who wants to do that?
Learn just enough grappling to overwhelm or survive and then you’re left with these two arts. Just think about it
you should bring in dustin poirier
If we could afford him sure. We’re big fans. Such a gentleman and he owns a great charity. Beat Connor twice.

Tf is a sifu?
It’s what you call your instructor in JKD
"Sifu" aka Shifu in Mandarin, generally means "father figure" or mentor/teacher in Chinese/Gongfu culture.
Much respect to NY Martial Arts Academy, keep up the great videos!
Bruce never certified nor permitted Ted Wong to teach. Wong had no martial arts background ahead of meeting Bruce. Definitely didn't spend more time one on one with Bruce than someone like Taky Kimura. And even if he did, Bruce was still only ever showing Ted the most basic, rudimentary material because that's all he could do. And still, what does it say that Ted, supposedly, spent the most time training under Bruce and yet was never ranked above a basic 2nd rank, let alone certified.
This is basic southpaw boxing material from the 1960s boxing magazines which Bruce taught beginners, but JKD? There's a reason Jeff, bar one side kick which came cheaply after a break in the spar (when Jeff was clearly not defending), was piecing up the "JKD" guy. It was just modern mma-style kickboxing Vs modern mma-style kickboxing: at which Jeff is clearly more experienced. Didn't see any JKD. Jeff was the one baiting, drawing, and intercepting the whole time, not the "JKD" guy.
But if arbitrarily naming it JKD gets you customers and CZcams hits then go for it. It's just a name as Bruce said. No need to fuss over it.
Go do some research on Jun Fan Kung Fu which was what Bruce lee originally called his philosophy. Then come back and delete this comment 😂😂😂
@@Kamingo170 Actually he originally called it Jun Fan Gung Fu. Not Kung Fu. And that was his system, not his philosophy. He originally called his philosophy The Tao of Chinese Gung Fu, which he certified students like Inosanto in. Later in 1967 he replaced this moniker with the name Jeet Kune Do.
@@thedojodjsx9605 so what are you saying, I’m a huge of Bruce Lee fan and wanted to learn this are you saying it’s not his actual technique or teachings
@@thedojodjsx9605 you're trying to say that this isn't jkd. You're a dunce
@@thedojodjsx9605 I’m not in NY unfortunately, just wanted to know is this the direct teachings of Lee or a branch of it
Jeet Kune Do was not meant to be style but simply a philosophy. MMA is what Lee Jun-Fan aka Bruce Lee intended the philosophy of JKD to be. In my humble opinion. This is not what sifu Lee intended. Don't believe me, look it up.
It's important to note that Bruce taught different things to different students through the years. He didn't teach Ted Wong the same thing he taught Jesse Glover or Bob Bremer.
His aim also wasn't necessarily "MMA" per se... his focus was mainly no rules combat and stopping an opponent by any means necessary.
@@AztecUnshaven
End the conflict quickly by being fluid like water and learning different techniques to end said conflicts...(MMA)
@@danadudley3127 Blending and adapting to the opponent's ever changing threats is a Taoist concept that permeates in many Gongfu systems; MMA didn't create the mixing of styles. That existed for centuries prior already.
MMA is simply a modern sport format for various martial artists to compete in a unified ruleset. A lot of what Bruce taught would get you disqualified in MMA; that being said though some of the core principles adapt well to combat sports too.
I hate jkd .. take to long to learn. It
Good things take time. Any skill worth anything takes about 10,000 hours to master. That’s from the book outliers. Virtually all good martial arts take a long time to master. JKD is no different in that regard. JKD requires you to learn boxing kickboxing wrestling and weapon. All those important skills take time to learn and then even more time to string together.
Be open minded and try it before you smash it 👍 Regardless good luck in your training and keep watching 😝.
