    I had a Rottweiler/Labrador mixed dog. Sweetest dog ever. Not really a guard dog more of a watch dog. would not hurt a flea but if he thought something was not right he would let you know and LOUD. Helped raise a litter of kittens. He saved one of them by alerting us at 3am that one was in danger of death. he loved little kids.
    i miss him

    I love Rottweilers because you can cuddle them as you please, without being afraid of breaking something.
    By the way, I never met one that was unfriendly.

      Carl, my belief it isn't the breed it's the people that own them. I use the pitbull as an example the most hated breed and yet when you search and inform yourself that isn't the case it is Always the low life owner.

      @@mjacobs6228 Inform yourself before speaking fool. Even if they were the most dangerous it is still ALWAYS the owners fault if a dog is aggressive. Rottweilers with good owners are super sweet, gentle and caring. But if you abuse, neglect or not stimulate them they can get aggressive. It is the same as in humans.

    • @mjacobs6228
      @mjacobs6228 Před 5 lety

      Lukas Pieper you probably have never even owned one...I’m speaking from experience.
      All three of my dogs were/are socialized, exercised, live in the house and run around in a huge backyard.
      I have two kids, 5 and 8 and i would leave them alone with the dogs...they are very friendly and loving BUT they are protective and a TERRITORIAL breed, period!
      You’re clearly talking out of your ass! The prey drive in my dogs are extremely high! They would welcome a stranger into my home with no problems but if they see something that triggers their drive it’s another ball game!
      I think your the fool that know nothing about his breed and the responsible ownership it takes to prevent accidents from happening!

    Well done. If everyone would adhere to these standards before breeding their dogs and would only sell to approved homes (people who adhere to the same standards) then the Rottweiler would not be in danger of being banned in so many places. This is a Nobel breed of dog and is truly the best family dog if bred and raised correctly. I got my first Rottweiler 34 years ago and have had nothing since then. I love everything about the breed but find it so sad what is happening to them due to poor breeding and irresponsible owners. One of the 2 dogs I have now fits the standard and would pass your tests with high marks, the other wouldn't. The one that wouldn't was a rescue but a poorly bred dog with weak nerves that make him more reactive. Sad to see.

    My sister lives in Sri Lanka, she owns two Rottweilers that recently attacked an intruder. the burglar is in the hospital, multiple stitches, a dismembered pinky and a ear that was left hanging by a little bit of cartilage. In Sri Lanka these dogs are breed to be viscous guard dogs.

      They are I my socialised with the family and veterinarian. Designed to be viscous at anyone else. Never neutered and breed as true guard dogs. If you come into the house, and they do not know you, they will try the level best to kill you. The house has a 8 feet wall around it and my sister and her family only walks the dogs in their estate. When I visit her they want to kill me too, lol, and I don't mind that, at least I know that they will protect my sister and her family at any cost.

    Rottweilers have an enormous overview of a wide variety of situations, which makes them very safe. A Rottweiler is not the dog that likes to overreact, rather calm and considered. However, they react highly aggressively and instinctively when their protective or defensive instinct is awakened.

    Really nice to see intelligent people who care as much about a dog's temperament as they do about it's conformation. It's sad when this magnificent breed get into the wrong hands. They are amazing creatures, and deserve a better reputation. Bad breeding and ill-informed, naive or negative ownership is the problem, not the breed. I love my Rotties!

    The Rottweiler is sometimes born with what is called a Kink Tail which is undesired. They decided to dock the tail instead of breeding out the issue. They didn't dock it far enough so the dog's tail would get caught in the carts they were pulling. So the tail was docked further to where it is today. Now they are breeding out the kink tail instead of docking. However having seen a litter get docked I won't do it again. The entire litter was screaming as soon as it was done.

My favorite breed is the mastiff breeds, better guards and are protectors. Much larger and just awesome. But... Adding heavier fines to people who train their dogs to do it, is key not restricting.

I take her shopping and out to eat with me a lot. People remark on her temperament and her gentle nature. However I can bring out her drive by grabbing a ball or a bite tug. You've never owned a Belgian Malinois or a Collie if you think a Rottweiler is energetic. You may have bought one didn't research the lines and don't know what you got.

      @hillarywatkins1384 Před 10 lety +1

      Evelyn Castro I think what asrotties is trying to say is that a German Rottweiler is a Rottie from Germany. It has to be bred from Germany to be considered a German Rottweiler. Also 150 is very large for a Rottie of any kind. They are typically considered medium to large dogs. 150 lbs is rather large and would not be considered good for the breed. Too many people breed for size and are ruining the breed.
      Now I am not a breeder nor do I think I know much of anything about the breed other than I love them and own one name Porter House :) That's just what I have learned in my own research.

  • @DearPajamaParty
    @DearPajamaParty Před 11 lety

    Yes they originated from Germany but there are differences. The American Rott is bigger in size, has a common health problem which is hip dysplasia, a longer snout, and less blocky head, while German Rott is shorter, is healthier, has a shorter snout, and a block head. This all has to do with Breeding. In America they over bread the Rott causing weak bones. But each dog is unique in it's own way :)

    it is but have you seen the standard bullies, XL? 90lbs + those are fit nice bullies, that look like they can support their weight, such as bossykennels in the u.s. Gamebreds are 30lbs - 50lbs aren't they? I like the regular non game bred pits, kinda like yours in your pic, but i'm not sure if he is. I would love to have a bandogge but overall they are really dominant and don't suit me, i would rather get a bullmastiff, or a bully. I love the american bullies as long as they aren't fat.
