Experimental Surfboard Shaping - Otter Bite Part 3

  • Using only hand tools I shape the eps blank that I made for my experimental surfboard the Otter Bite. For this shape, I'm going with a dual tail design. With the way I designed the rocker as well as the side cut, it should let the board surf off the nose or tail. I'm also shaping a bottom contour to add a lot of lift to the board to help with its small size. I'm also adding channels out the nose and tail to help increase drive as well as hold for going finless or using small fins. Making the nose and tail the same I'm hoping will allow the board to do pop shove-its and continue surfing the same off of the nose. Which will hopefully open up some new possibilities to surf off the nose or surf switch.
    Tools and supplies I use:
    Surform long: amzn.to/3C0RIhr
    Surform short: amzn.to/3qorL9q
    Contour Gauge: amzn.to/3n0asZx
    3M Dual Cartridge Respirator: amzn.to/3Ec9aB0
    3M Super 77(for making sanding blocks): amzn.to/3f0X9nj

Leave it finless! That board looks fun

I may have put eight fin boxes in it haha. I haven't used it finless but I've used the little cedar nubs I made a video about. In a 2+ 2 in nose configuration it's a lot of fun.

When you need a curved really soft sanding pad it works really well.

Absolutely love watching you work, your tools and technique are so unique. Your video work is excellent too...I don't think people realize how much work that is...getting the shot at the right angles and then editing it all together to make sense in the timeline...well done! You make it look so easy and the time lapse video makes it look like magic! You have such a great imagination Matt! So...are you making a board for Robin too? 🤣🤣🤣 Cheers, John 😃👍

Thanks John! Hahaha I've gotten a number of funny comments about how the board looks in the water. Its probably the only board where almost every time I've surfed it someone has asked about it.

@@funafter5081 Yeah I've been surfing it for a few months off and on. Took me awhile to get this video out. I had a lot happen in the fall so editing slowed down. Also the project files are massive for this series of videos.
