So many good books in this TBR. I loved The Sudden Appearance Of Hope and Oryx and Crake. Oryx and Crake is super super weird but worth it if you get through the whole trilogy.

  • @martineguitard7639

I see you have Scythe on your bookshelf. I've read it not too long ago and I really enjoyed it. The romance doesn't overshadow the story at all. It's a dystopian world. The concept is really interesting. It's like nothing I've read before. In this world, humans are immortals. Scythes are people that were created to keep the population under control which is called gleaning. We follow one of the scythes training two teenagers how to become a scythes.
If you have read it already, sorry :)

Crooked Kingdom gave me a mean book hangover and I couldn’t read anything for like three weeks. It’s so dense and time-consuming, but once you’re done - it’s worth it. Just take that one easy, don’t push yourself to finish it too quick. ✌🏻

Can’t wait to see what you think of Consider Phlebas. I read it a couple years ago and was kind of eh about it so I’d love to hear what someone else thinks and if you decide to continue the series.
Me personally I liked the idea of continuing since there were parts that I liked, but I would definitely have to re-read since it’s been so long. Plus there are a lot of shorter series I wanted to get to first. Happy reading!!!😊

I'm really excited for this month! I went to the bookstore today and I picked up two big books, plus I'm currently reading something. I decided to pick up a Brandon Sanderson book after hearing you talk about him so often. I really wanted to pick up the first book in the Mistborn trilogy but my bookstore didn't carry it! :( I ended up getting The Way of Kings though, and I'm really excited to read it. I also picked up The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (in a special edition that has all of the books in one) which I've heard tons of good things about. I'm not sure if I'll read both of them this month since the Brandon Sanderson book is coming on 1000 pages and the other book is roughly 800 pages!
I'm also reading The Mysterious Benedict Society which has been interesting so far. I might pause it to read The Way of Kings, though!

I will be finishing The Hero of Ages this month, hopefully! I started it in audiobook form and found that I can’t flip back and forth between audio and physical so it’ll take a while to finish it. I’m also reading Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman (2nd book in the Arc of a Scythe Trilogy). I’m not sure what I want to read after that. My mood tells me one of these 4: Clash of Kings (Game of Thrones book 2), The Name of the Wind, Under the Dome (Stephen King) or The Empress (second book to The Diabolic). Decisions, decisions!

  • @ammalyrical5646
    @ammalyrical5646 Před 6 lety +12

    Sooo, Crooked Kingdom...
I felt like that duology could've been one book.
To me it felt like the cliffhanger was just added to be able to come up with an extra book.
But I also thought Six of Crows could've been maybe 100 pages shorter (if not more). With a little bit of change in the writing I think it could be one book of about 600 pages.
I also thought the heist plot was done poorly. It was moreso unclear than impossible, because we really didn't get much of the planning and prep and the characters barely had problems when doing it. The heist was also way to short.
Seen it done better in less words with well developed characters, but more plotdriven.
    Just my opinion.
You can guess it: I thought the six of Crows duology was more than a little bit overhyped

Victoria Grochola of you're asking me, then yes, original and alloy era.
My fave was The alloy of law.
I predicted the Vin and Elend part of the ending in the first third of The Well of Ascension and wasn't really surprised with the rest.
Don't get me wrong, they are good books, just not something in my top list.
Actually, they were on my most disappointing reads of last year (still just below 4 stars for the series though).
If you want to know more, I made videos on my faves and least faves of last year. The Hush by Skye Melki-Wegner was one of my faves, I call it: Six of Crows done right (even the rep feels more natural).

A scanner darkly you should def read - but watch the movie after. I think Phillip K. Dick is amazing at thinking up premises, but his writing is very matter of fact and very bland imo. The movie is an excellent adaptation though. One of the few instances where the movie is better.

I liked Swan Song a lot more than The Stand. However I'm not Stephen Kong's biggest fan (I enjoy some of his books but even those I like I usually have issues with..). I thought the characters in Swan Song were much more engaging, I really cared about what happened to them. The Stand felt more... pretentious? I don't know how to express it. Less human. Like he wanted to put the story on a much larger scale, but ultimately it made me care a lot less.

Am I the only one who didnt love oryx and crake? I feel like it was TRYING to be smart and edgy, if you know what I mean... and the characters are all sooo unlikable and annoying.
