JOHN MAYER jam SOLO on CELINE DION 'BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME'

- Opening the new @siriusxm studio in Las Vegas yesterday was a blast. It reminded me to post this moment from a few months ago where I’m playing guitar over one of my favorite songs, “Because You Loved Me” by @celinedion.
Credits : John Mayer
yeah this is just every guitar player in their bedroom. love it
i totally agree
Exactly. Because not all of us guitarists are extroverts like John Mayer.
Except I doubt many of us played it this well 😂
@@captainshiner42 yeah everything is fine ,until we start recording with camera on
Well. Not every guitarist.
We need a John Mayer Podcast now. Where it's him and other great guitarist talking about great artist and songs and jamming over it like this and explaining what is going on in the song.
He has his own channel on SiriusXM which he basically runs like a podcast.
Can’t get it in Ireland
Yeah, he's doing the SiriusXM thing right now so if you're willing to pay something like $15 a month, you can get it. He's my favorite artist but that's just too steep for one guy on one show when I wont use the rest.
Lets have John Mayer jam over every 90s hit
He has a very vocal style of guitar playing. No surprise he sees her vocal runs as guitar licks.
You GO John boy. One of a kind guitarist
All of John's solos are ones you can sing..I feel thats what makes them so great
Its super useful to listen to vocals or sax players as a guitarist to be more melodic and to get you out of the guitar box that your brain puts up
As B.B.King said: I'm not playing guitar, when I'm tired from singing I'm just starting to sing on guitar
Tommy Emmanuel often says the best way to create your own solos is to vocalize/sing them first.
He’s so good it’s embarrassing
Any player that has that ability is gifted and has a work ethic very few have. Extremely rare. And good on him giving Celine the love she deserves
@@felina7849settle down bub
@@felina7849 it's a gift.some people are musically predisposed and have innate qualities that when subjected to hardwork sets them uniquely apart from other equally or more technically proficient/well studied individuals who have gotten to that level through mostly hardwork and determination.you could start playing from a young age, that doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna achieve the same level of musicality and musical iq as these top players.
Celine Dion’s voice is unmatched.
So true.
they're both 👌
Celine's voice is matched by Lara Fabian (she's French). (No disrespect meant towards Celine, who is amazing)
put that collab on the Grammy’s, and I’ll actually watch the show.
It’s funny because it’s true lol
It's cool but too busy. If he toned it back a bit, it could be fantastic.
@@elusivelectronit's nothing serious, no need to be pedantic.
@@elusivelectronif he’d actually do a live collab he’d 100% tone it down and only play in between the vocals instead of over them (I think here he’s just underscoring the phrasing of Celine’s vocals)
Celine can't hit those notes anymore
When he highlights the vocal lines, god damn. Another proof that learning vocal lines on guitar can be so educational and inspirational.
Lots of time in the bedroom listening to lots of songs to build these kinds of chops. Thanks.
John casually breaking the Sirius XM rules by rewinding just so he can jam over it lol
Yeah you can tell the people on the board were like “can we do that??” - they hesitated.
He was prepared to just move on…
if he just did this for every song I would subscribe and listen everyday
F-ing guitar genius. This is disgustingly great in every way for us guitar players who could never dream of having the sheer music talent and insight John has!
its really just hours and hours and years and years of practicing the craft.
What we need is for John to record an album of all the songs he has covered. He is by far the best guitarist in the world.
John's brilliance and taste showing here, obviously, but David Foster production is unrivaled. He truly stands on business. And of course, Celine's ear. Brings that whole song together.
Usually, it’s easier to hum/vocalize melodic lines in your head since there’s less latency unlike playing the instrument, so listening to vocal lines from the greats like Celine to expand your soloing capacity is a great exercise. Thanks JM as always for teaching the musicians/guitarists in your fan base 😁
Uh... please tell me we're going to get a LOT more of this... JM just playing along with stuff = = yes, please!
How has this video not blown up yet?
The world is losing these kind of real amazing musicians. Sad…
It really isn’t. There’s are lots of massively talented young musicians around, as there always have been. They’re maybe just making a living in a different format to the past because of how the music industry has changed.
But it’s not. He’s here NOW in OUR lifetime so let’s be thankful and celebrate that.
These kind of musicians can no longer support themselves. Hire your local musicians!
👏👏👏 Very nice John! ❤
This is actually a great way to get great licks. Listen to good singers and see what ad lips they do or just what notes they sing in general. Helps you in not overplaying and making solo's more pleasing for audience (especially non guitarists)
Such an inspiration
The new satin black Silver Sky is 🔥
Taking a beautiful voice and translating it through John's fingers on guitar. Beautiful
Forever Grateful
Increible!!! 💯
Wow...awesomeness 😊
More more of this please👏👏👏👏
Unreal talent
John, now you got me wanting a duet with Celine. Not sure if she would go for it now because of her health, but man, that would work.
Virtuoso guitarist playing lines from a virtuoso singer. Magical
The double stop out the gate.... mmmm clean.
Oh John. Still doing your best Derek Trucks impression. Bless your heart. (John would approve of this message)
I hope Celine sees this
I saw she commented on John’s post on Instagram!
And she reposted it on her story, so she definitely saw it!
@@niekvanwensen that’s cool
@@niekvanwensen nice !
so dope
That sneaky 'don't let the sun go down on me' riff at 2:40 is so perfect for this!
Is.. that a riff? He was just playing down the major scale from iv to i... not sure that's an intentional reference to Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me?
@@FraserBernstein Perhaps not. The lick distinctly reminded me of it is all. I've since moved on with my life since I made the comment. My heartfelt apologies if it caused offence.
@@lewisross4044 hahahaha mate I was literally just questioning it. No need to get sarky. Enjoy your day!
No Johny it's not every song it's just your flawless talent that makes songs sound better! ❤️💪🏾🔥
Reminds me of when I used to jam on songs like that. Videos like these are wholesome.🎸
I’m a simple man, I see John Mayer jam session I click. Also when he matches her pitch at 1:09 oh man
I love John Mayer but this is truly great because a) it's fantastic songwriting and b) Celine's ad libbing which is just glorious.
100%, but that’s the whole reason why John’s playing over this. He’s showcasing her amazing phrasing and how you, as a lead guitarist, can learn from singers!
There is a version of this, I think it’s Kirk Whalum the gospel according to jazz one of the volumes maybe volume four. I’m not sure.
He’s playing in front of a giant audience with his regular band, and George Duke comes out to play piano, the entire thing is absolutely mind blowing on a different level
This is also awesome of course, I just wanted to throw this in there for anybody that was interested :)
Thanks for everything, John!
if only i could play like you id probably play all the time
that green on his sig PRS is straight fire. if i still had free xm on my car i'd tune in every damn day lmao
this is why guitar players are special. the blues influenced ones at least!
It is a good song.
Amazing.
2024 Who'da thought we'd be sitting listening to Celine Dion w.John Mayer. It feels like hanging out with your guitar-buddy after school in your bedroom. "Listen to this!"
Every song will sound better with John's guitar
Basically Celine rips and John showed us how
It s like Eric Clapton said. Its just me singing.
If you are able to transform singing into a solo it sounds incredible 😊
He‘s really good and he knows his elders. I know he’s an Albert King and SRV disciple, but I can also hear David Brown and Mick Taylor. Hate him all you want, but he‘s not afraid to go against the stereotypes.
The best guitar player in the world. Briljant.
Let's not get carried away here.
Really????????
@@brakesforsnakes757respect our opinion 😅
@@d-rosejames4553 It's always been silly to say someone is the best at any particular instrument.
There is no "best". Best at what? It's not an Olympic event.

That is how I spent my hours as a kid in the 80s…..jamming to records in my bedroom…..Waitin for Columbus(Little Feat), One more from the Road(Lynyrd Skynyrd), At Fillmore East ABB, Chick Corea Elektrik Band 1st Record, Larry Carlton Last Nite Live at the Baked Potato, All Toto Records up the Seventh One, Django Reinhardt Hot Club de France, John McLaughlin “Electric Dreams” to name a few oh and of course Gary Moore Victims of the Future, Al Fi Meola “Elegant Gypsy” …..all these albums I also transcribed. Yes, Boys and Girls and whatevers, you had a record player, vinyl and nothing else…..Sheet Music was limited to classical and jazz,I also worked Joe Pass Guitar Style and Paul Hindemith Elementary Training for the Professional Musician, TED GREENE CHORD CHeMISTRy my personal bible, thora, quran, b.gita……
❤❤❤
This is insane.
„Any song you jam over and it sound this good is a good song“
Well if you‘re john mayer you can make any song a good song then
John Mayer be like: "I'll talk you through it"
*starts playing guitar*
the add libs were great lol.
vaya máquina😮
"any song that you can jam over..." lol , sure bru. I can't stop watching this vid
Like I am waiting for the dentist to see me in 1999.
Maldita sea john eres el mejor te amo
Extra terrestres.
❤🔥🙌
Sounds like clapton in this one❤
Nice bends.
I heard once that Gilmour used to model his guitar playing of Eretha Franklin. Notes are notes at the end of the day.
That's because Aretha Franklin is the "Queen of Soul"...no disrespect but id say that you're probably a teenager?
@@doug_1489I like you... I'm 40 😂
@@mikeparker444 that's probably why you spelled her name incorrectly lol 😂
😍
*I'd love to see a chat between John Mayer and Tim Pierce* 🎉
that tone is absolutely DISGUSTING! and I need it right now 🎸 ,what a master he is
delicious
John mayer is the embodiment of ‘tone is in the fingers’ you could give him your old squier strat and any old amp in he will probably sound 95% like this.
So curious what amp etc 😮
@@thatmidlifevlogger4463 probably using a fractal here
Trying to replicate John Mayer’s tone feels like a fool’s errand. I think it mostly comes from his hands/fingers. You could give him an old department store guitar and one of those cheap Crate practice amps and I’m betting he would still sound like John Mayer.
This guy
0:33 wohoooooo best part for me
is the full interview available?
The day i become as good as him is the day I'll be lying in my coffin
Can’t imagine Jimmy ever doing this, or even Clapton.
It's awesome he's just jamming in the bedroom over famous songs. John rocks
This dude should consider session musician carrer
"I think we're modulating".........🤔😂 priceless!
After Matteo Mancuso, everything now is on a new scale.
No one Loves To hear John Mayer talk more than John Mayer
If I shout "YEAH, COME ON!" at my guitar, will it sound like his?
What's that notebook?
I have heard John Mayer has top models in his bedroom. Guess he chooses his PRS instead. Rock on !
Almost as if he’s sponsored
Travel size electric guitar never looked so cool
Holy schmolkes… who is this guy
"Any song you can jam over and it sounds that good is a good song"
Yeah also helps when John Mayer is the one jamming 🤣
this dude would have sold 100m more albums if he was John Mayonnaise
Is this JM official channel?
can we see mateus asato and john mayer go b2b?
If only my hands were 30% bigger to enjoy the neck of the silver sky's lol
His tone on a graph is getting closer and closer to Clapton's. Wonder when they will intersect?
He sounds more and more like Éric Clapton !
Coloca todos aqui
Interesting he uses the Remarkable 2 tablet.
I love that fat tone his strat has
reimagine without the guitar and the microphone, leave the coffee mugs and you have john in a regular office job killing the hours
2:17
No trading space this time John?
This is how musicians that chose guitar as their main instrument are on a daily basis. Guitar players are not like this.
I believe from little things i know for scales after the key change he was a little bit off and lost somehow? This would be crazy if i am right but what u believe?
he's a superb blues guitarist, who doesn't seem to play chord changes well, if it's not a 1 - 4 - 5. Josh Smith is an example of an equally talented bluesman, with a lot more theory and chordal language in his locker.
@@bailzzzzzz That doesn't even make sense. A key change isn't something complicated to play over. You just change your scales and move them up or down, as he did in the video. Not one wrong note.
@@johnlemon874 i'm not talking about key changes, I'm talking about non-diatonic chord changes. He just keeps playing the same root blues pentatonic regardless of the chord, which you can hear doesn't always work, as the op pointed out. I'm not trying to knock the guy, it worked for Stevie Ray Vaughan
@@bailzzzzzz SRV was the only guy who could get away with it though.
Of course it's a good song. Diane Warren wrote it.
IMHO the best are singer-songwriters and that's not Celine.
@@brakesforsnakes757 Nobody said Celine is a songwriter, or that Diane is a singer. I also prefer singer/songwriters myself, but I see Mayer's point here. He's open-minded enough to recognize a good song when he hears one. Whether Celine is singing it or not (and I'm not slamming Celine either. Great singer. Just responding to your point).
