- Biddy Early Wise Woman or Witch? finally broadcast on RTÉ television.
The programme ‘Biddy Early Wise Woman or Witch?’ made by Eamon O’Connor had been scheduled for broadcast on New Year’s Day. A sudden strike at RTÉ meant it had to be postponed. According to the RTÉ Guide, many people in the Clare and Limerick area wondered if it was Biddy Early herself who had sabotaged the broadcast.
A well known clairvoyant and healer from County Clare during the nineteenth century Biddy Early is said to have cured people and animals from all over the country, including those cursed by the fairies. She was tried for witchcraft in 1865, but witnesses were reluctant to testify against her.
According to one man interviewed about her legacy,
The priest would curse you if you went near Biddy.

Seanchaís gather for a céilí in Early’s rebuilt cottage outside the village of Feakle in Clare on May Night 30 April, the Celtic festival of Bealtaine, traditionally the night of the fairies.

One off Ireland's greatest lady's. A healer with great character. She was never afraid off the law of the clergy.

They sat around, creating these wonderful tales,that got more fantastic with every generation.
She was a very strong independent woman who lived through extraordinarily hard times. She wasn't afraid of going against the grain and challenging the authorities. Landlords, priests, police, politicians. She was linked to groups like the ribbonmen through her 3rd husband. These were groups of evicted tenants who sought revenge on landlords. No direct link between biddy and these groups but the authorities did try to charge her with witchcraft in ennis when she was in her 60s as a desperate attempt to curb her influence
Thank's for that info about the ribbonmen mate, as it's a mob I've never heard of. I'll investigate further cause I love learning about Irish history.

We should also mention that she used a green bottle quite a lot in her spells which she threw into a nearby pond/lake close to the end of her life.

Who is selling it? Sounds like someone just took over it to me.
It was a year or so ago i saw it for sale, so it could well have been bought. It was on the market for years before. The last man who restored the house died a mysterious death apparently. Some say she threw a little blue bottle in the lake behind the house, which has never been found. An immense amount of alcohol was drunk in that house by travellers from far and wide, so i would say the walls would talk there.
@@terrythetuffkunt9215 I did a search and it is still for sale, it looks very forlorn now on top of a little hill, not much of it left at all. What I was told when living in Ireland is that Biddy once said that she would someday return to that house.
