    whats up guys been reading alot of forums and stuff and there is alot of stipulation around the vq engines being used in various cars. although the z and g engines have different performance parts in them you can still unleash the beast in your Nissan Altima Maxima or Murano. To make it sound similar to a 350z 370z or G35 G37 Infiniti.

    If you really want to feel a nice power gain from just bolt-ons, throw on a set of long tube headers and an aftermarket y-pipe. We've tuned quit a few Vq35 Maximas and Altimas and have seen gains of 25+hp to the wheels with just headers and Y pipe. On average we have seen ~5hp gains from most cold air kits and about 7-8hp gains from a free flowing catback/resonator deletes. Those are wheel numbers, so as you can see if you liked the gains you felt from your intake/exhaust then get your hands on a set of decent headers and a good aftermarket Y pipe and she will really wake up. Then come see us for a tune!

    Looked at all the comments and i must say. some of you have no clue what you are talking about. Here are the facts:
    You WILL get more horsepower on the highway with a cold air intake when you open it all the way up. However, your engine (by design depending on what you have) will only suck in so much air in at a time. You will NOT see the difference of a CAI in stop and go traffic; It will actually be a little more sluggish because of the sucking in of warm air from the engine bay. Highway speeds are different since you have a higher more consistent flow of colder air coming in that you would not have at a stoplight or stop sign.
    The thick plastic that your air filter box is made of is designed to insulate the incoming cold air from the engine heat. This is why a K&N filter has better results on street driving. Is allows for higher volume of air to pass through and the incoming air is protected by the insulated thick plastic called the air filter housing. It also produces the same results as a CAI on the highway.....
    Switching out the exhaust and removing resonator will reduce back pressure which results in your vehicle exhaling easier. This will create more horsepower when you step on it. It also sounds mean and gives it a nice low rumble in idle.
    Always been a fan of aftermarket parts, but you have to know what they will do for you and how they do it. Just thought I'd share with you some things I found out through testing on my own vehicle.
    Thanks for posting! Nice ride!

    • @Gkitchens1
      @Gkitchens1 Před 9 lety +19

      black98rt you're a fucking idiot. A cold air intake doesn't mean it automatically creates cold air. All it is a pipe with a filter on the end of it. If its just routed into the engine bay, it won't work as a cold air intake because its sucking in hot air from around the engine. The air box pulls in cold air from outside the engine bay. It was designed like that for a reason. Jesus I've never seen so much stupid on one place. Please dont have kids.

    • @black98rt
      @black98rt Před 9 lety +1

      Greg....it's not a cold air intake if it's sucking air from inside the engine bay you idiot. It's just an intake at that point. If you still don't understand hopefully someone else can help explain it because I've explained as simply as I can.

And the muffler shop charged me $80 to chop off the stock mufflers and resonator and replace it with exhaust piping and weld on the new mufflers. And an intake kit for my Altima is $50 just waiting till payday so I wont be tight on funds. But yea totally worth it. My advise would be to buy exhuast tips instead of mufflers. You can find big exhaust tips for roughly the same price as the mufflers and they look the same, the tips wont restrict the sound tho.

    Exhaust is going to unleash a bit of power that's for sure, but intake (an all new world ? lol) is going to give you 1-2% of power gain if not nothing. Especially on an N/A car.
    The power gain of an intake is just an illusion you can't feel it, it just makes you engine breathe a tiny bit better, which is a good thing and that's why it's a good basic mod.

    just an FYI, the cold air intake you have isn't as great as they say, none of them for that matter, you might just be imagining It, without a tune the cars computer is going to too try to set it back to factory tune standards plus the short rams are kinda counterproductive because they suck in the heat from the engine bay, but they do make a cool sound since the filter is exposed, also the maxima and 350z have the same engine the 3.5L maximas anyway.

    • @killin2nu
      @killin2nu Před 9 lety +6

      Absolutely not. the air is much more and quicker to enter the combustion through the CAI than a factory intake, there are 2 fans in front of the engine, and the air is not drawn from the engine bay its far left and air comes in as u move.

    • @oliverdatus565
      @oliverdatus565 Před 9 lety

      Steel it doesn't matter what the fans do, the air is still warm. As you beat on the car, outside temperatures rise regardless. The fans main purpose is to cool coolant not the rest of the surrounding area. Now if you had hood vents then you may see a difference cause air temperatures around the engine would drop meaning the air entering would also be cooler.

    • @haoliu8612

      I had to watch thle video again to understand the context of the comment. The five idiots that agreed with steel have to be the biggest idiots in the car scene. What that dude did with his intake doesnt really serve it any justice, but if he wanted to correct it, i would have built a shield or rerouted that filter and build a bypass. That front air dam is not serving a purpose any more cause it only worked with the original box. If his filter was in front of his radiator or under his bumper than he would be fine. All its doing is sucking in surrounding air, and again let me point out that the fans dont do shit for the air intake but keep coolant cool.

      +Oliver Datus seems like everyone have their opinion on how cai works. however. i see the new corvettes from factory cai located in the same place and lots of American and Japanese tuners with the cai the same place. I'm no automotive scientists but if the engineers and tuners put theirs in that place for whatever vehicle, then I'll do the same. don't wanna doubt the people who actually build cars. not saying you're wrong because I've seen cai especially for the g37s located where you say. maybe it doesn't matter much where you put it since the diff in HP might not be that noticeable to make a difference in performance.

    3.5 from nissan/infinity are gonna sound the same rather you do a muffler delete or a resonator delete or both ... same 3.5 engine imo muffler delete sounds the best , plus its the cheapest...

    Damn dude I'm impressed. I'm not rely into anything smaller than a V8 but my girlfriend has this same car and I have to say urs sounds good. Doesn't sound annoying. Are you gonna reflash the ECM now that u put a cai and exhaust? And what about a turbo or SC? If u do a reflash, do it the rite way and do it on a dyno to get max HP and plus u won't run it too lean or fuck anything up LoL

    I know this was a while back, I have an Altima SER. I love the sound deep and not raspy. So all you did was a muffler delete/resonator delete and got a Y pipe weld?

    Sounds nothing like a Z or G. Sounds like any typical Altima or Maxima with a catback. If you were driving down the street, and no one saw the car and only heard it coming, no one would think a Z, G, or FX was coming.
    It does sound good though, just not a G or Z sound

    Should I install Stillen exhaust system, and Injen intake? Short ram/cai?
    What kind of hp gains are we looking at in total?

    • @DMCarReviews
      @DMCarReviews Před 8 lety

      Aeon Entomb I am guessing that is pretty accurate. The exhaust is very restricted in the stock altima. A good stillen system should definitely make a good bump.
