    Boguinskaia's Beam in EF showed how experienced she was as a gymnast. Superb composure!

    DID EVERYONE ELSE KNOW GOGEAN DID THAT RELEASE COMBO ON UB? I’m truly in shock I would’ve never, ever, ever expected that from her?!?????

      They were really creative until Belu took over. I'm not knocking him, they were incredible and had a ton of success with Belu, but they weren't particularly original. I was absolutely shocked the first time I saw this too lol.

      i dont ever remember her doing that either!!!

      @@nicolec4744 let's be real - Belu won a LOT on the Romanian reputation and not on his gymnast's abilities. Most of the time they were crazy consistent but most were about as fun to watch as a corpse. And when the gymnasts DID make mistakes, many were overlooked and/or overscored.

      @intldawn Před rokem

      This is the only time I remember seeing her do it. Mind boggling, isn’t it? She always hated bars but I didn’t know she could bring it like this. She was a super young gymnast with a lot of difficulty and great choreography under the Pops but her gymnastics got a lot more conservative under Belu. They were more known for doing routines that were still difficult, but strategic and things the girls could hit consistently. No unnecessary risk, so that made some of their gymnastics less imaginative over time

    I too, never knew Gina Gogean performed at this difficulty on bars. Sadly I dont think she was underscored, as great as this amazing routine was, she scraped her feet on the floor returning to the low bar after that stunning combo. Its a shame, but what a great routine.

      It wasn't unusual for gymnasts not from the "right" countries to be low balled in that era.

      @@rolandgreen7484 Please don't take offense, but I really don't know the point of your reply to me. I'm fully aware of all that you point out. That was my era and I was a competitive gymnast myself. In fact, I know Gutsu and have photos of her and I together.

      @@rolandgreen7484 People just need to let it go. They are both great gymnasts. Shannon had a great attitude and unlike many other gymnasts, was grateful for any medal. Shannon was incredible at compulsories. If there wouldn't have been a new life rule, she would have easily won because she killed it on compulsories and her combined scores would have crushed the competition. Gutsu was the daredevil and as much as she did at the Olympics, she did even more difficult routines at other competitions, including a full twisting double layout dismount on bars, which definitely was ahead of its time. It was so close in scores, it could have been either one of them. Shannon later had the last laugh and won so many medals afterwards, including an individual Gold Olympic medal on beam that following Olympics.

      @@rolandgreen7484 I think she had a few stress fractures in her back that were discovered shortly after the games and her touring appearances. She later moved to the United States. First stop was in Indianapolis and she competed a bit there with the girls. Then she later moved to Michigan. As she coached, she realized she could still do a lot of the moves while trying to show her students. So in 2003 she staged a comeback intending to be a three event specialist. In the end, however, she quickly realized she didn't give herself enough time to get back in condition at the elite level. I know she could have pulled it off if she would have gotten the same encouragement and exposure like Boguinskaya did with Bela and other folks like Sally Rivers.

    The judging of the all-around might have been problematic but the event finals were very fair. For example, if you examine the UB finals, the marks were spot on, I wouldn´t change any score or rating. Even the tie between Bogui and Hrista seems absolutely reasonable.

      depends on who's commenting, because Michel Boutard is a gym specialist and former french champion. On the other side, Pierre Fulla (the oldest) says so many stupid things that gymnet.org dedicated a page to collect all of his quotes! :)
