Maelor Targaryen cut from House Of The Dragon season 2? And the impact on Blood and Cheese.

- So far it seems as if Prince Maelor Targaryen, the youngest son of King Aegon ii might not be in House Of The Dragon. On the surface Maelor seems like a very minor character where in they could easily be cut from the show. But given his key role in blood and cheese mean that if Maelor is not part of the show then Blood and cheese in itself will work very differently in the show. With Maelor the moment loses the impact it does in the book in making Queen Haelena choose between her sons. In this video we look at how Blood and Cheese could work in the show without Maelor.

The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.

When I didn’t see maelor is season one, I assumed they would use the twins. They would have have the mother pick the daughter to die because she won’t inherit the throne. More guys vs girls lol
In the books, Helaena offered herself to be killed, but the men told her it had to be a son, a boy. It is no wonder Helaena went mad…
I care because maelor is important at bitterbridge, which is what pushes Daeron into the spotlight
I think ha
Bing Helena choose her daughter for death is actually a really powerful idea that underlines the shows theme of sons and daughters being valued differently.
That's where the writers fail, it's not about sexism, it's about the fallout of a family and the correlating horrific consequences.
Uhhh sexism is definitely a theme GRRM is writing in his series. It is partially about sexism.
It’s a theme thats in fire and blood and in house of the dragon-- however, the exploration of sexism is more subtle in the books through the use of multiple POVs whereas the show hits us over the head with brutalamd violent sexism repeatedly so often it sometimes makes me think as a female viewer that if being a woman is truly as terrible as the show depicts it why anyone would want be a woman at all. There’s literally no upside to womanhood, if the TV show was the gospel truth. Thank goodness it’s not… but holy smokes.
If they can fit joffrey they can fit Maelor
Cutting Daeron the Daring is an absolute crime. One of the best targaryens of the dance who isn't cruel and is amazing.
During the events of season 1, Daeron would've been in Oldtown as cupbearer to Lord Ormund Hightower. So it makes sense that he hasnt appeared yet. I've heard it's confirmed he will be in the show.
@@lawv804 I really hope so! I would love to see him and Tessarion in action at some point. It'd be weird if they included the Hull brothers along with Hugh Hammer and Ulf the White without including Daeron
@@lukebarroso449 Condal's already confirmed that Daeron "is a fixture and a character in the show" and that he will be appearing at some point. Though I'm personally hoping that he'll make a brief appearance in season 2, it's likely that we'll see him in season 3. Plus, he's important enough in the story to the point where I honestly think that cutting him out of the show altogether and somehow making it work would require a lot of skill in itself
Idk he did kinda allow the sack of tumblton happen , he also isn't that great he gives the greens a few wins but nothing that's all that amazing.
@@thatoneblackdude3333 He's just one of those characters I really like. Its fair to say that he probably doesn't contribute much, but he's still cool to me.
He wasn't cut. His emblem was shown in the intro for ep 10 next to the other 2 children.
He just didn't appear yet like Daeron.
I can see people already people calling helaena sexist for choosing Jaehaerys over jaehaera…
Ikr, instead of the majority audience questioning whether TB are really the "good guys" they're going to be blaming the system
Lets remember there were plenty of time jumps in the first season so hopefully we still get this.
Blood & Cheese will flat out NOT WORK without Maelor Targaryen.
It still may work, Helaena will still be forced to choose between Jaehaerys and Jaehaera.
If forced to choice between the twins it actually works well because the blacks believe a woman can be an heir
@@Divine_Chareka That's like substituting fruit for fake, inedible decorative fruit.
They're probably going to use B&C as an example of "women being pitted against each other because of the patriarchy" instead of what it should be; the moment that cements the true nature of these sides and the needless brutality of the war.
@@s-core8087Rosby and strokeworth says hello
It may still work. They can give Jaehera to Ser Rickard instead of Aegon. Book Jaehera hid in stormsend when black took over KL. After the war, she was married to Aegon the younger then couple of months later she died too. So nothing really happened to her.
He might be cut, but the opening credits from last season do show Aegon/Helaena with 3 kids.
the fact that the credits shows that they have three kids confirms that maelor exists. The same thing happened with Daeron and it’s been outright confirmed multiple times that Daeron will appear.
@turtleguyfan Yeah, but Daeron actually has a significant role to play in the Dance that can't be integrated into either of his brothers' storylines, and fully cutting him would adversely affect the story.
@@X525Crossfire daeron’s role doesnt come into play until the other realms actually get involved and the fighting begins. S2 covers the beginning of the war with the crownlands, at this point oldtown and the surrounding regions are still calling their banners
@turtleguyfan But the point remains he, and his dragon Tessarion, play a major role in the war, so he has to be kept. When Daeron enters the war, Aemond is focused on the riverlands, while Aegon is convalescing from Rook's Rest, then hiding out at Dragonstone, and then dragonless. There's no way they can have either of his brothers take his and Tessarion's role of single-handedly salvaging the green cause.
And it can't be Ulf and Hugh who do it, because if the greens aren't saved at the Honeywine, they're done in the Reach and can't march on Tumbleton; without the threat of Tessarion, Hugh and Ulf wouldn't be sent to defend it, thereby railroading their betrayal.
Maelor better be in hte show. Not even for Blood & Cheese but for the Bitterbridge storyline. I need to see that impactful arc.
First to the Black 🖤
Steel and the first ranger !!
Great as always mi lord!!!!!
🖤🗡
Brothers !!! Here here !!!
In the opening credits we see his sigil as well as Daeron's.
Sophie's Choice is an analogy that could be applied to Haelena. S1 had to "grab" the audience and apparently it did despite leaving out all the "boring" stuff and multiple time jumps. 20/20 hindsight for the show runners could have simply included a narration of the boring stuff that happened, in between each time jump, much like the beginning episode. Even if it was just script on the screen, "Vahgar, the oldest and largest dragon still alive, accepted the very young Lady Laena Velaryon as her rider." "Such and such children were born" "This and that Lord died, replaced by.." "Meanwhile, in the North.."
I mean we saw Maelor’s Dias in the intro family tree. He’s def there. Plus they can still do the story but just have choice be between the twins. Helana chooses her daughter to die but instead they kill the son.
I'd argue that Maelor is more important for Bitterbridge. I think they'll give Maelor's role to Jaehera.
honestly wouldn't surprise me if they did do this, i think it really depends how far into the Hour Of The Wolf and the Regency they plan to go. Depending where they stop the show they could just about get away with killing Jaehaera at Bitterbridge
I hope he not cut but I guess will have to wait to see.
I’m not watching blood and cheese or any bitter bridge scene if there is one. It was hard enough reading.
A son for a son it was between the sons
With the whole bits of misunderstanding and accidents that seemed to be happening last season, I am worried that Blood and Cheese won’t be as brutal as it could be. I have a fear that we’ll have a scene where the assassins capture the kids and make Helaena pick but maybe she chooses Maelor or even Jaehera and maybe one of them is about to kill the selected child, but the other goes rogue and just decapitates Jaeherys. It’s a shock to his ally and maybe even a little argument breaks out, “Why did you do that! You killed the wrong one!” Kind of thing. I hope not. This civil war has lost its due in my eyes cause there is nothing real… drive to these atrocities. it all comes about from misunderstandings.
My issue for cutting maylor is that it would make the sadistic toying with Helana pointless
Jaharys would bethe only son on their list, which means they would just kill him on the the spot, they wouldn't be a need for this Sophies choice moment
the act in itself if horrific but it really is the Sophie's choice aspect of it that takes it to the next level. It's why for many readers it's the stand out moment of the book,
@@WorldOfWesteros the plan would just make less sense without Malor. The orders from ether Damon or Missaria were clear. A son for a son, and the fact that BandC killed the one Helena wanted to spare indicates that they had orders to mess with her decision
Choosing between Jeharys and Jehara would make the toying needlessly cruel and strip away some of the nuance this scene was supposed to invoke.
Again if it was just the older boy he would have been dead on the spot. And having Jehara take maylors place would made this a very taked on handfisted commentary with the sexism commentary that this show was already doing a good job with.
It's probably coming from just the book purist in me but after the Finale what the did with Ameon and Luke's death being and accident and not cold blooded murder makes me worried about them watering down other key scenes.
Yup I’ve come to the conclusion they are rushing the blood and cheese episode.. it would really be better if it happened after we get to see Children for a 2-3 episodes and connect whit them. If we loose Mealor we loose some of what makes this civil war awful and we also lose the chance to see some complex emotions from Aegon too.
I somehow doubt that the showrunners want to tell a balanced story. Everything I've seen so far tells that they're rooting for the Blacks and against the Greens.
Thanks. I am sorry for accidentally typing out "Thanks" as "Thanos".
Blood and Cheese will be a horrific moment. The teaser shot of the scene already resembles the lighting in Douglas Wheatley's drawing of the scene in Fire and Blood.
Look at the teaser and two trailers, the Cargyll fight scene is less well-lit in the teaser than in the two trailers.
this is a very good point not many people picked up on the lighting and colour grading in general looks like a huge improvement over season 1 based on what we have seen in the trailers.
@@WorldOfWesteros Thank you for the insight!
He will probably be taken out with Bitterbridge omitted in order to continue making The Blacks look good.
They just cutting all the team green Targaryen members
Ehhh, if you're a fan of the series, then automatically, you understand what this conflict causes and what the message is. What are the true differences between these events messages and the modern story going on rn.
Too bad. I guess what happened to Maelor will happen to his sister.
I don’t think he’ll be cut, wasn’t him and Viserys (Rhaenyras son) around the same age ? ❤
No...
In the book: Aegon the Younger is about 9-10 and Viserys is 2 years younger so around 7-8.
In the show however, Aegon should be around 5-6 and Viserys 3-4. Both a little older
Season 1 of game of thrones was pretty boring being mostly set up and getting attached to/beginning to hate the characters.
Season 1 of HoD has been more structural set up over developing feelings toward the characters. However, Helaena definitely has had moments to evoke an emotion attachment from the audience, being pretty beloved with fans wanting to protect her.
(My frustration with those moments being primarily structural to show her prophetic dragon seeing rather than why we should care)
Aemonds pretty cool though
For the lord commander !!!
Bring the ale !!!
For brother Bittersteel!!
For the lord making these videos !!!
Blood and cheese coming soon..
June 16th cannot get here soon enough .

Maelor? why coulden't they have just named him Maegor, like i get they dont exactly like me but that shoulden't stopp them from using a cool name.
Just saying
You won’t like what happened to the next Targaryen named Maegor, your grace.
@@chrischan3066 what happened tell me!!!

Aerion's son was named Maegor
Poor Maelor…
Honestly, I could do without Bitterbridge. So I’ll consider that a small upside if Maelor is cut.
i do enjoy Bitterbridge but in the grand scheme of things, it would not be the end of the world if it was cut, there are a lot more important moments that i would ranter see.
@@WorldOfWesteros It’s just one of those scenes that’s 100% tragic and awful with no real narrative thrust aside from another potential heir being killed. I can read about but I have no desire to see it portrayed on film.
They'll use the twins if they brave enough to do the blood and chees scene
Blood and cheese are in the trailer so we'll have a version at least
Nothing is confirmed until we see the series first. I hope the entire script leaks on reddit like before season 1, so that we have some clarity.

First to take the Black for House Blackwood
House Bracken Better
@aegorbittersteel2154 Never. Fake king horse breeders. I can't wait to see The Battle of the Burning Mill. Yeah, Samwell Blackwell got killed one on one but it introduces some of my favorite characters. Rob Rivers, Black Ally, and the most awesome 13 year old ever, Bloody Ben. Hope all is well brother
@gregrobertson5576 the Blackwoods took land from House Bracken or whatever other poor River Lord. I am great hope you are as well.😄
I wouldn’t be surprised, they can’t have Rhaenyra looking any worse past Blood & Cheese…the entire show is so unbelievably biased toward her and team black that it’s honestly ridiculous.
I mean, they took Mushroom’s words as gospel when it came to Aegon…the least reliable source in the book, that makes things up constantly. The entire show is team black propaganda, the white washing they’ve done to Rhaenyra is astounding.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they straight up didn’t do the Nettles and Daemon plot line in the show either…can’t have the perfect Queen getting cheated on by *the* best character in the show and the biggest reason team black even has a large fan base, period.
Changes that favor the greens:
- Daemon actually murders his first wife and abuses Rhaenyra
- Larys orquestrates the murder of his family by himself, no conspiracy needed
- Alicent is not a bitch stepmother and a schemer
- She is also going along with the usurpation because she genuinely believes Viserys changed his mind
- Aegon is a piece of shit but not a pedo
- Rhaenys girlbossed to death dozens of civilians at the Dragonpit
- Death of Luke is an accident
- Lyman Beesbury's death is an accident
- The Strong kids are indeed bastards (again F&B cannot confirm doesn't confirm it completely)
Changes that favor the blacks:
- Laenor got his gay exile instead of being murdered (which even F&B is not sure it had anything to do with Daemon)
- Vaemond is killed but not eaten.
- Aegon is a piece of shit.
- That's about it.
UnBeLiEvAbLy BiAsEd, indeed.
Blood and Cheese was 100% necessary from the black faction the greens started the war and its ridiculous how the show made it seem like an accident
You've gone off the deep end
@browniebear lmfaooo friendly debate here from fan to fan... but thinking from the blacks 1 the greens stole the throne 2 hid the death of her father 3 then causing a horrible still birth 4 son gets murdered by other faction while out as a peaceful envoy... sorry for my English hope this makes sense while all the blacks had done so far was... nothing if I was the blacks blood and cheese would have been WAY more bloody Helena would have watched Alicent and all 3 kids get removed from the game... wby you're the blacks how do you respond to all this?
Made it seem like an accident? It could've been an accident in the books, we didn't see what happened when they flew away.
And Aemond did it alone out of his own choice, it wasn't "the greens"
@@diablorose You didn't need to go on a tangent about how you view TB as justified & how you view them as the good guys. That much was already clear from your first comment.
The Dance is not about TB. It's not about TG. It's about the failure of both sides and the corresponding fallout. The tragedy of a family that just could not reconcile. Also, HotD is *not* the "real history" nor "what actually happened" just in case you subscribe to that line of thought. It's just glorified fan fiction like the 2nd half of GoT.
B&C was Daemon's outlet to be sadistic and cruel. He used Lucerys's death as an excuse because if he truly wanted just revenge then the proper course would've been to assassinate Aemond or Aegon II.
@browniebear lmfao well I never said good guys your green fan is peaking thru 🤣 calling deamond sadistic and cruel for the same crime his nephew committed... and no I'm a book fan 1st and show enjoyer 2nd and yeah the book is open ended bc why would you not want revenge on the kid who's the reason you don't have an eye it's not that hard a thought process especially with the Baratheon girl teasing him
Blood and Cheese is justice!
Cristons Cole Son Daemon With The Cowardly Act
The Greens should have known there is consequence for what you have done! You cannot just killed Queen's son and acted like it was nothing!
