Your videos frustrate me because you sum up in 17 minutes what took me the better part of a year researching and forum reading to understand. I'll never get that time back lol :D
SAME LOL. I turbocharged my engine and used MS to tune it.
You're not alone guys. I know some people who worked on this stuff for several years before they got their first startup.
Ever heard of the guy who charged 10k because he knew what to and where to hit 👌🏼😬
You mean you'll never lose all that experience you gained putting the time in 😊
Finally someone just explains it and doesnt assume you know the basics of tuning already
I don't have a motorcycle, my cars already have ECUs that work just fine, but I'm continually impressed with Matt's knowledge, presentation skils and sense of humor. I got out of the automotive diagnostics business 20+ years ago, but this makes me want to get back in.
I’m a little more used to large diesels and small 2 strokes, so I didn’t understand a thing about this video. But, I appreciate the snarkiness with which it was delivered, as I’m giving it a like.
Having spent the last 6 months reading and rereading the relevant manual sections (including realizing I was reading the wrong version of the manual), watching a half dozen videos and reading forum posts, it's nice to find one this concise. And it's the only one that included a straight up easy way to measure injector dead time, everywhere else made it sound like either you needed to already know how to do it, or just guess and hope. Thanks!
Dude... for real, I struck Gold when I heard him describe that method for finding dead time on random injectors. Made my week...!
Read your book some years ago (I still re-read it from time to time) and have been following along with your videos. One note about the CBR600 - at least what I've found within the realm of FSAE, it will never knock (as long as you're not being real stupid with it). My first time tuning the RR I had chassis ears on and was super careful with spark timing, I think I spent like a couple days on that 1 map. I'd go up past 60 degrees yet I wouldn't see much through my knock sensor or hear anything, and torque would be dropping off. So I was always able to hit MBT timing without knock being the limit. The following year I came back and was able to bang out a tune in 2 or 3 days, compared to nearly the full month I took in the first year.
Every single one of your transitions immediately transports me back to watching Good Eats as a kid, I need to do some research and learn the name of that specific genre of funk, so chill but energizing at the same time.
I used an Arduino to program a Bluetooth module to the correct baud rate and then soldered that onto my microsquirt. Trust me, Bluetooth tuning is so much better. As an added bonus my phone doubles as my gauges.
I can't believe how fast this channel has grown from hundreds of subscribers to 30k. Congratulations and I can't wait to see what's the next project
Concise n to the point, no fluff. Finally!
This video has officially helped me make the decision to do a DIY Fuel Injection conversion on my custom CX500 project
Matt, thank you so much for making this video. It might not gain a bunch of view immediately, but it will inevitably accumulate views as this is the best resource for custom fuel injection on a motorcycle.
Matt, I’m a big fan of your videos in general, but these megasquirt vids are particularly pertinent to me right now. I’m learning tuner studio and refining the tune on my 911 motor. I’m a long time mechanic and modifier, but this is my first time into the bits and bytes of tuning and I’m really enjoying it all.
Thanks for the great tutorials!
Thank you so much for these videos! I had heard of megasquirt and all the other nonDIY ECU manufacturers before but your detailed video has sold me on at least 2 megas for different projects. They'll do exactly what I need 👍 and the way it ought to be done, cheap and DIY 😁. They should sponsor you 🤣
Great Video! I just got a hold of a micro squirt (Updated model apparently). Putting it on a 2017 Fz07. My first time so I'm going to come back to many of your videos hundreds of times, at the minimum
(A bit late but...) This is probably one of the best videos on CZcams about the subject of initial tuning and setup. Lots of relevant and useful information without the fluff! Well done Sir Matt.
Amazing amount of excellent info in a quick delivery. Thank you a ton.
Oh man! Another lesson! Yet, I have a confession to make.. I didn't read the manual, sorry man. Truth is, I only watch because of your wit and the technical data makes my brain tingle. Also, I don't have the money for a Mega/MicroSquirt setup yet so the manual would be wasting paper. Or electrons. If you need anything CNC milled or turned, let me know, it might help me read the manual!
You said it, "READ THE MANUAL!".... TWICE. There are people out there that "wing it" as standard practice. Awesome 👍🏼😎 vid Supafast. This can and does often result in a blown (not forced induction blown, type 3 as in boom. Type 1 blown is not affiliated with engines.) Or grossly underpowered.
Tuning is something you need to really comprehend, the more you know, the safer your engine will be from detonation, lean or rich conditions, overheating due to improper timing, overheating, and so on.
another great video I am getting more confident a giving this a go.Thanks for the walk through
Awesome video, I got some information setting up my CBR600F4i with Speeduino ECU
I'm glad I came across this channel! Awesome videos my friend. I wish we had a MegaSquirt back in my FSAE days.
I want to do formula student so bad. Do you know any good schools in minnesota that do it?
@@peterwelch5691 Not off the top of my head unfortunately; I went to school in Texas. Look up the results for the last few years on the SAE website and see if any of those top schools are in Minnesota.
The big schools there have teams but I can't speak for how "good" they are.
@@haydenwilhelm3882 ok thanks!
I don’t even have a motorcycle but I watched the whole thing. Good education :)
I was for some reason quite entertained by this video. This is mostly weird cause I don't have an ECU I need to program for anything, I don't even have a motorcycle. Or a car for that matter. But it's still interesting to see how a system like this is setup when done manually and you're not just using a motorcycle/car as it came from the factory.
Great video and presentation, my gratitude, sir
Nice explain and fast👍😍
Am plan to do it
Vw maxican beetle engine
Even better, supply beer to the injector, test its flow into a beer bottle, then drink the beer. Repeat until you have no idea wtf is going on. Lots of great tips, thanks for the video! ))
Hugely informative interesting and entertaining if all lessons were like this there's a danger I'll end up knowing stuff. Mind you they say a little bit of knowledge
I have a 1991 Miata with Honda CBR 1000RR throttle bodies, i am using alpha N tuning with great results. I tried using IRTB mode but as soon as you crack the throttle bodies open the manifold pressure goes to atmosphere, kinda useless. The people on the miata forums don't like alpha N tuning, car has been running like a champ for 5 years. BTW i am using the honda wax valve with engine coolant for fast idle, no IAC valve needed. TPS is interchangeable with one from a honda accord.
Dam good series!
I have to say I really like all your videos. With that being said I am purchasing a microsquirt for my 88 starion. The distributor that is in it has 12v to one side and my msd 6al-2 on the negative side. Have you or do you know how I would wire my distributor to trigger the microsquirt. Thanks again for all your super awesome info
I have so much more respect for my tuner now
Can you do a video tuning the one for the grom please ?
Impressive details. What's the end goal(s)?
great info
Thank you ...... 👍👍😎👍👍
Thanks!
Can megasquirt or microsquirt work with diesel engines? with comonrail and turbo? 4piston.
Great video, I've been a mechanic for over 40 years.. I thought I knew everything..lol.. I understand all the lingo, parameters , etc. But I would definitely cry if I applied this to my sons resto, jag-xjs.. do you or anyone ever attempt to apply a standalone ecu on a v12 jag?.
Megasquirt 3pro, seems to be the only ones that can control v12 and sequential.. any ideas or directions would be eternally great full..
I'd go 3pro for sure, v12 just means more wiring for injector, coils etc , shouldn't all that different otherwise, you might have issues into finding info and sequences of the engine but aside from that shouldn't be too bad.
You'll need a harness for sure, since the original Jag ecus made by Lucas were wired terribly and ran the engine like 2 straight 6 in parallel
Is there anywhere I can download base or sample tunes from, as you recommend. im turbocharging a 400cc yamaha.
is it possible to run a DI (direct injection) injector with a MegaSquirt?
Great info. I play at x0.75 speed to enable my brain to keep up.
How did you learn all that bro, im trying so hard but there are many things i dont understand
I'm looking into microsquirting an old Volvo B20. Still hesitant, because the Jenvey Heritage makes for a nice stealth ITB setup that maintains the "carbed" look, but probably won't work if not fully sequential.
I'm megasquirting a b20 for a 122 wagon project. Did you end up doing this project?
@@floydilian no, unfortunately my cash situation paired with a house purchase has relegated the 122 to the back burner.
I still have it though. That's a plus.
I don't have a motorcycle or own car and need to study for a maths exam tomorrow. But I'm watching SuperfastMatt now lol
excellent - looking at modding a honda cbx...just one comment - never trust graduated measuring jugs...the are mostly calibrated wrongly.
Around $400 for a micro. Just lookin' around to start to DIY for my 2012 Suzuki 650.
You mention buying a lot of other stuff. Is the Mega Squirt still cheaper than Haltech once you buy all these ancillary items? (connectors, software, etc.)
Buy a Haltech Elite 550 or 750 and just be done with it lol
👏
Why does my 90's naturally aspirated daily driver suddenly need Megasquirt2??
Gone are the days where you simply turned a screw or two to tune an engine…
How many guys ended up on a porn site, googling this system?
