Forge / Furnace Venturi Gas Burner

  • Propane burner made with 1" pipe, 1-1/4" to 1" adapter, M10x80mm bolt, M10 nuts and large washer and 0.8mm mig welder nozzle. All found for cheap at the home improvement store.
Tested with gas at 0.5bar (around 7psi). It can run a bigger flame by increasing pressure but I think like this is enough to heat a forge or furnace. I can adjust propane flow with pressure regulator between gas tank and burner.

Outstanding ! For those that live in an area where it's available, black iron pipe and fittings will save the acid bath step to get rid of the galvanized coating . Your design of the adjustable air gap is ingenious in that it allows for variations in gas pressure as well as fine tuning the flame . All in all a great design .

I thread my mig tips into the connecting pipe, that way I can interchange them for optimal gas flow. Clever design though to allow for control of the choke and tip height intake.

Great job! If you ever have a problem with the MIG tip clogging or you want to change orifice sizes for the use of different gases, instead of soldering in the tip you could try using a hollow bolt that's tapped at one end to take the tips' threads.

I've made a few burners over the past few years. This is a nice design! I used cast reducing sockets for the burner flares but they melted. I also used a much larger reducing socket for my inlet Venturi. It's based off of one of Ron Weil's designs. Also played with modified mongo burner, I think, from Zoeller's web site. I really like your design - takes the best features of each of the designs I've played with and results in an overall simpler, possibly safer outcome. Love it!

Muriatic/Hydrochloric acid strips the zinc off super fast and is a lot easier "for me" to get, pool chemicals.
Also looking into using "lamp bolts" the long hollow bolt used to assemble some lamps. Save the hassle of drilling that long deep hole in the bolt. GREAT Burner, I have all the materials to build three of these for my forge, just need the time to do it. LOL
