  • Today we're rocking a cool 5e3 tweed Deluxe clone, hand-built right here in the Pacific Northwest... the Roadhouse Tweed 15! With 15 watts of power and a 12" Celestion Alnico Blue speaker, in a great-looking lightweight cabinet, you've got yourself a killer all-around package! A lot of clones can't quite capture the feel of an old Fender tweed, but these Roadhouse amps sure do the trick!

    I own a Roadhouse 15. It the best amp I’ve ever owned, and I’ve had vintage Fenders, Marshalls, plenty of custom modded amps, and a really good Matchless. I’ve loved them all. But the Roadhouse 15 is definitely the most versatile of all my previous amps. I play country, blues, rockabilly, Americana; and it sounds great for all of them. Before I bought it, I was worried that it wouldn’t have enough clean headroom. I was wrong. It thumps clean when you want it to and chimes feedback when you want it to. It really feels alive and “touch sensitive” is an understatement. Awesome amp.

    Great demo. A strat through a tweed deluxe is magical. After owning a Clark Beaufort for a few months and then selling it, I have really missed that tone and feel. I have a Franklyn built 5e3 on the way and can’t wait to experience that tone again. Thanks for heightening my anticipation. Killer amp and playing by you. Thanks.

      Agreed Magic Amps are on point for the vintage thing! And for the beefed up 5E3 thing, a Blankenship Fatboy is another fantastic choice (at 22w).

    Idk why people constantly bitch about them talking a lot, at least they're giving you good info on the product. It's just like bullshitting with someone about guitars and amps. Some channels and videos they just talk about complete bullshit and is so boring. Love this channel and emerald City guitars.

    I had been wanting a low power fender amp for ages. I really liked the Fender Champs but they go for around $1700 Aussie. THEN I found the Joyo JTA-05. It's a blatant clone of a 5F1, but delivered to my door for $230 Aussie. Those with morals need not apply, but it sounds brilliant. 5 watts, 8" celestion.

      Generally with the Vintage you may find drifted carbon composition resistors, some DC leaking coupling capacitors, and God forbid some bonehead is using vintage electrolytic capacitors.

    A problem with the clones that probably has a lot to do with what you expect from them is non vintage tubes. Gotta run those vintage NOS tubes. Even the rectifier counts!

    The Celestion g12m 65 creamback is a nicer speaker than the blue in a 5e3. The blue is good but the creamback has a better, sweeter treble to enjoy when you crank the tone all the way up at gigs.

    What 5e3 tweed clone do you recommend? What speaker for country, surf , classic rock?

    • @yohohoho7675
      @yohohoho7675 Před 5 lety +4

      I built a Mojotone 5e3 and changed the orange drops caps to mallory m150 mustard caps and used carbon comp resistors and big blue sprague electrolitic caps, very easy to do. Ive played Victoria, fender 5e3s and their not quite there really, very nice but not as warm as the Mojotone. Its a fantastic amp mainly due to a proper pine cabinet and proper transformers. Ive tried all the speakers blues, webers, jensen originals and re issues eminences etc and the best all round speaker is the Celestion g12m 65 creamback.Its got plenty of volume and growling bottom end, beautifull mid range and a sweet top end. Ive done over five hundred gigs with it now and ive played many super high end boutique amps, which are all impressive in their own ways and always come back to the Deluxe, it really is the most versatile little amp out there. If you want to give it a boost I recommend a klon centaur style pedal with the gain right down, it works a treat as it is the best in keeping transparrent guitar tone comming straight out of the speaker. You can hear it at luckyolsun.co.uk, please excuse the over compressed recording but the guitar tone speaks for its self. 59 strat is on the recording. Cheers.. ps. Your amp in this film sounds great by the way. God Bless

    How are these builders working around the problems with modern tubes? The old tubes were and are a better sounding product.

    • @billedwards2657
      @billedwards2657 Před 4 lety +2

      They ship with JJ stock. There’s only a couple of really poor tube substitutions in the rectifier and EL84 space but 12ax7s and 6V6/6L6 are pretty solid across the board. The real trick is adjusting vintage circuits for modern power from the wall and emulating the power sections.

    • @peacefulruler1
      @peacefulruler1 Před 4 lety

      Bill Edwards are you saying that higher wall voltages are changing the tone? Should make things bigger and cleaner, right? Or are you worried about the heater voltages?

    • @billedwards2657
      @billedwards2657 Před 4 lety +2

      peacefulruler1 for sure they are. You’re hitting the tubes a little harder across the circuit. You see a lot of folks using the brown boxes to turn the voltage down 10% or so, otherwise they need to be adjusted in the circuit.

  • @Robert-Smith

    Single note lines are glorious. Chord distortion vacuums. Too ratty sounding, not holding definition very well. A ceramic speaker might help that.

  • @michaelmcnally4868

    15w amp, 15w speaker. Are not the speakers supposed to be able to handle twice the power that the amp can provide? This looks like a recipe for 279$ going up in smoke.
