Should I Worry About The "Wiggle Trigger" On My S&W 1854 Lever Action Or My Marlin 1895 Trapper?

  • When examining his brand new Smith & Wesson 1854 lever Action Rifle, the Doctor discovered that when cocked, the trigger freely swung back and forth...a condition he dubbed "Wiggle Trigger." This raised a couple of questions; 1) Is "Wiggle Trigger" necessarily a bad thing, and 2) Do other firearms suffer from this condition?
Please let us know in the comment section if you have a firearm that suffers from "Wiggle Trigger" and if it affects the overall use or enjoyment of the gun.

I’ve affectionately nicknamed my 1854 ‘’MBB’’or ‘’Marlin Made Better’’!

LOL. I definitely agree when compared to the Remington Marlins, but the new Ruger Marlins are pretty awesome!! ...That is not to take away from the S&W 1854 at all. Put either in my hand and I'm having a great day😎

That does make me feel better about it. Is it something you had previously noticed?

Thanks for the feedback. I actually never noticed it on my Marlin 1895 Trapper (in 45-70), until it got my attention with the S&W 1854…and I only noticed it because of how egregious it was. That said, it works fine and I really don’t see a problem with it. Thank you again for taking the time to comment.
