    I'm a self taught knitter who's only come to knitting in later life with the advent of grandchildren. This video is absolutely brilliant. It's so detailed and has enabled me to pick up and knit the stitches for a collar, making a join that's all but invisible. Something I can be proud of. The only downside now is that I want to go back and redo all previous pieces! Thank you so much.

    This is the best video I have seen for picking up stitches on a neckband. I love it. I am a self taught knitter (starting at age 41) and a perfectionist, so I really struggle with things like this (and shoulder seaming). I go to a local knitting store once a week for help with my knitting. When I ask the store owner about a different technique for something, such as shoulder seams without the stair step, or left leaning and right leaning decreases, she says "you've been watching youtube videos again haven't you?" I haven't been able to go to her store for 4 weeks because NSW went into total lockdown. I am so glad I found this video. I have been struggling with how to finish off a jumper for my grandson for nearly 4 weeks. The store owner told me how to knit up stitches, but the way she told me, I just didn't get it. I finished my first jumper in May this year and she very kindly sewed it up for me in the end because I was so frustrated I was ready to give up knitting for good, and she also knew how important that jumper was to me, because it was for my grandson. This video will also help me finish off a cardigan I knitted for my grandson almost a year ago.

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  Před 2 lety

      I love this story Christine, thank you for sharing. I will give you a little hint. I have tons of videos that you would like on finishing and other jumper construction details. All you have to do is do a search for the technique you are looking for and add my name. Like - Mattress stitch suzanne bryan. And it will pop up for you. Happy knitting. If we lived closer, I would certainly help you.

    Thank you for such great detail and explanation. I am designing a lace tank for my niece's flower girls and am learning as I go along! Hoping I didn't place some of my YOs too close to the edge. (I suspect I have - but it's lace, so hopefully all will turn out well!)

      ... also would like to know if the knitting works should or should not be ironed.. at times with ironing, I find it easier at the joining stages or to straighten out folded picot edgings or to straighten out botton-hole strips etc.. but am left wondering if that makes the works too flat or even disfiguered

    I am so pleased that I came across this video! This is probably my third jumper and I have suffered from the holes, so that was a real face palm moment right there! Thanks for explaining how that error occurs so clearly. Do you have a video on how to work out the ratio of stitches that I need to pick up and knit? I have counted that I have 62 stitches available to pick up but need to fit in 75 according to my pattern. Hmm?!

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, I have that video too - Perfect Picked Up Buttonband - explains the ratio process - czcams.com/video/AfU-6QHNlDw/video.html

    Thank you! I’m working on a V neck vest for my husband. I am ready to put on the neck ribbing and arm hole ribbing. I’m so glad I watched this first. The pattern did not mention blocking before picking up the stitches. Thank you too for teaching me how to avoid holes. Do you recommend wet blocking or steam blocking. I wish I had blocked the pieces before joining the shoulder and side seams. I think this would have made joining so much easier. Hopefully I can make a nice ribbing for the V neck and arm holes.

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  Před 3 lety
