Suzanne, I noticed that you had gotten 2 thumbs down, and this is really a puzzle to me. Everything that you are demonstrating is so perfectly done and your camera angles, wide and close-up views are done at exactly the right time. Your ability to keep the work being shown in the 'center of the screen' is superior. I make sure to mention your name and where to find you to new people in our knitting group. Thank you for publishing such excellent demonstrations. I secretly think those 2 marks are just people with touch screens who inadvertently brushed the screen without even knowing they had done so. THANK YOU FOR BEING SO INCREDIBLE!!!
@@lillyniki5480 i agree. All must be by right handed people. I would guess because of the placement of the menu items. Too bad we can't move the menu around. I have been frustrated by not being able to undo having accidentally touched it.
Thank you for taking the mystery out of seaming stitches. I have avoided many projects because I would have to do this....now I get to go back and play.
Thank you so much . Your clear instructions have helped me to sew a very neat seam with mattress stitch for the first time in my knitting experience. I am 76 and thought I knew most things about knitting. However this is the first time I have tackled a dropped sleeved garment and it was proving a problem for me. I am so happy to have found you on CZcams. and I shall definately be recommending your calm easy to understand channel to my friends.
I have been doing this style of seaming for years, but always just did it by eye as to whether to use one bar or two. Results were always a bit hit or miss. The ratio is a genius way to work it out accurately. Thank you for teaching me a new technique.
I didn’t need the info for this video but having just discovered you yesterday I am watching a slew of them! I found you while looking for videos on how to pick up stitches around the neck of my first sweater after a complete fail on my first attempt which had to be ripped out. I winged it, and after seeing your video I realized my mistake, picking up directly under the bind off. THANK YOU! My ribbing came out beautifully. I have vision issues and I really appreciate the way you bring the work closer on camera so I can see clearly what you are doing. God bless you for sharing your knowledge with us! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
I am so appreciative of all your lessons. I have used the seaming of sides several times and always go to you site when in need of help. Thank you so much.
Thanks Suzanne, Seaming was always a nightmare when I was Learning to knit. You make it look so easy and it makes complete sense. I have a few sweaters I want to knit and will be sure to use this tecnique!
You're such a wonderful teacher, Suzanne! I've learned so much from you, and yours are my go-to videos for learning or improving a technique. Thank you so much!
I agree with you in that I love working the finishing portion, Unfortunately there is little direction in patterns when it comes to that portion. Thank you for your easy to understand instructions. I realize now why some of my seams were ugly. I was using the selvedge edge and not the actual stitch.
So helpful....I am up to the point in my granddaughters sweater of seaming the sleeves onto to the body of the sweater. Perfect timing for me. So as Suzanne said, I made a chart of rows and stitches. IT WORKED !!! It was so easy. It’s nice and neat with no bunching. Thank you so so much.
Wow! I avoid seaming like the plague because it always ends up looking so haphazard. You simplify the process so that I can follow your excellent instructions. Thanks, Suzanne.
Hello Suzanne, I love your videos. I have learned so much. I started knitting when I was a young girl (I am 62 years young now) It has always upset me to see my seams, and I just didn't know how to make them look better, after all those years!...Math is not my forte, the diagram you did, will be a huge help. I know that from now on, I am going to enjoy my knitting even more, and maybe even up my skill level, which plateaued many years ago. However, I am grateful for the opportunities that videos like yours, they will help me accomplish so much more. Thank you so very much xx
Hi Suzanne, am using this video to finish my Di Gilpin CARRINGTON. I followed your video about the 3 needle bin off for the shoulders. Thank you so much for making knitting so much more enjoyable and not a chore at all.
Thank you so much for these incredibly helpful videos! I’m a beginner knitter who is currently working on their first cardigan. I know it definitely doesn’t have to be “perfect” but I would much rather practice good technique from the get go. Wish me luck while I attempt this!😅
You are my absolute go to for every need I have in knitting. I took up knitting again during lockdown and I thank my lucky stars I found you as you have taught me so much in such a short space of time. BRILLIANT :) :) :)
A video that’s clear and to the point. Love it!! Thank you so much. I was so worried that all my hard work would be spoiled by poor seaming technique. Thank you so much!!
Brilliant! I am looking forward to looking forward to seaming. I enjoy weaving in ends and grafting so good to know that seaming may soon fall into that camp. Thank you, Suzanne. Such clear teaching.
Thank you for your videos Suzanne. My knitting has improved a lot with all your tips. I totally agree with what you say about coming to enjoy the seaming and blocking process once you know what you're doing! Thanks again.

Excellent tutorial, very cleary explained with gorgeous shots. Thank you so much! I linked it into my project in Ravelry for other ravelers to be aware of it :-)!
Thank "ewe" for another excellent video! I secretly like to seam as well. I have made a few Alan Dart figures and it quickly became clear to me that the care with which the seaming is done is the difference between looking great and looking lumpy. So, since I do not want lumpy-looking things, I learned to tackle the task and now it's a challenge I look forward to! Your videos are so helpful in developing the confidence and skills of your fellow knitters. Thank you so much for your time and efforts.
Again another great video, thank you so much, apart from ending up with a well finished garment it give one more confidence. Before I start my next project I will look it up on your video, I tried slipping the first stitch on the jumper I just finished knitting, never did it before so come to sew it up and it's not as good as it could be, bother. Thank you.
Your tutorial was definitely helpful and easy way to seam. Only helpful tip would be how much yarn is needed per length seaming (ie 2x+ appears to work). I had way too much but definitely didn't want to run out. Thank you for doing these!!
You are the best knitting teacher I have ever met. Do you have any videos or simply tips on joining knit work to continue it but crocheting, for crazy wild fusion designs?? ;-) Thanks!
@@SuzanneBryan Whenever you can work it in. I'll be doing my own experiments, successful or otherwise, in the meantime. Thus this interest in joining. Anyway...)
I am adding that to my video todo list. Are you talking about seaming the bind off edge of the Stockinette the the rows or the stitches of the moss stitch?
Thanks Suzanne, I really enjoy your tutorials, how they are presented so concisely, pictured so clearly and the detailed content. I had no idea about the "dreaded elevens"....there's no doubt I have been guilty of them and now I will notice them! A question for you: when seaming like this previously, I would have just picked up two row loops instead of skipping one....is that wrong? What effect would it have?
I love your videos. Very clear. But I did have a question about this sample. There was a bit left over on the row piece after the seam was finished. How would you handle that? Thanks in advance.
I am so glad I have come across this video. Thank you for making it so clear - I now hopefully won't mess up my good knitting with poor seaming! My garment has more rows than stitches (28 rows, 23 stitches) so the opposite to your demonstration. Would I work out the ratio for them the same way?
Thank you very much Suzanne! What kind of selvedge stitch would you make for a garment that has to be seemed? Would you make one more stitch on each edge as selvedge stitches? I have never tried to knit a seemed garment because I’m afraid to make a mistake & not confident enough.
Mostly I use just a Stockinette selvedge. That is knit on the RS and purl on the WS. I am currently in the process of making a video that shows a variety of selvedges and compares them - on a Stockinette fabric. Watch for it, maybe this weekend. Happy knitting.
Hi Suzanne! I love your videos. They are always so helpful. My stitch/rows count does not come out with a whole number. For example, stitch count is 14 stitches per 3 inches or 4.66, and the row count is 20 stitches per 3 inches or 6.66. I'm unsure how to set up my ratio. Should I round up or down? Can you help me out?
Yes, use the lowest common denominator. So if you are getting 14 sts and 20 rows in 3", then you could go to 7 stitches for every 10 rows. Or like this - 1:2, 1:1, 1:2, 1:1, 1:2, 1:1, 1:1, repeat.
I am knitting a sweater the front and back panels will be a knit the arms will be a purl how can I sew a purl side to a knit side? Do you have a video? Thank you 😊
this was so helpful! I am 15 and I am knitting my first ever sweater, this explained it perfectly! :)

My garment has more rows than stitches (28 rows, 23 stitches) so the opposite to your demonstration. Would I work out the ratio for them the same way?
Exactly, use your ratio.
