- In this video, Andre and Kase cover two American classics - the 1965 Ford F-100 and a relatively more modern 1994 Dodge Ram 2500. Both have straight-six engines (one gas and one diesel), and both are pretty much indestructible in our experience. Here's what these old trucks are like to live with!

I’ve got my great grandpas ‘91 F-150 with the 300 i6. Had her for 10 years. She survived all the abuse my 16 year old self could throw at her and still purrs at 400k. Love that truck
The trans sucks
@@rickydavis5541 only issue I’ve had with the E4OD is finding a trans solenoid that fits and works
@@rickydavis5541 Not if it had an NP435 behind it, things are almost as indestructible as the 300
I love the loud thud old trucks make when you close the door, and that slam when you open the tailgate. New trucks are so refined today, they aren't as rugged and simple as they used to be.
When trucks now days get 50 years old and the hinges are worn out the weather stripping falls off they will sound the same😂
@@TheWolverine-rm2kr I would bet that 50 years from now you will not find hardly any of today's trucks on the road.
I have a 79 F250 with a 300 six and column shift and also a 98 Dodge with the 12V Cummins. Both are great engines and great trucks.
I’ll usually watch some portions of your videos but when you review the old stuff, I’m glued to the end.
Same!
On your vid question: yes, drive-arounds are more interesting than walk-arounds. Definitely looking forward to a proper off-road vid with these two trucks! 🛻
The old Toyota Pickup or Hilux are the indestructible one.
Ford F150: hold my beer
I like the chill drive around talking videos. 1.) It's an activity that I personally enjoy in my own life, and so watching it is both familiar and fun. 2.) Beautiful scenery, even if it isn't crazy special. 3.) TRUCKS. Both formats are enjoyable, I guess it's just relaxed content with old trucks that wins regardless :P INLINE 6 PARTY, WOOO!
"It only has 92 hundred miles, it's like new" 😂😂😂
inline ford 300 6 where in the UPS trucks had a sound you knew the truck was near
Awesome video guys, I enjoy watching these older truck videos. You’re just missing the GM 350 (5.7L) engine, but still a great selection here.
Love the chemistry between Andre and Kase, love the video!
Please review the last generation of the Dodge Ram Van Wagons from 1994-2003. I really want you to review this truck and all the American Vans like the Ford Econoline that was sold as a van until 2014 and then they only sold it as a chassis that was updated from the interior in 2021 and also a good review of the Chevrolet Express which is the Last Classic American Van built on a frame.
Thanks The Fast Lane Truck & @TFLClasics.
I love that old Ford.
Great video guys!
I am still loving Kase and his awesome Cummins video content.
That old 12 valve is just the best sounding truck ever made.
Wish they wing window back into vehicles, I don’t smoke but on a rainy day it will still give air , I usually always have my window down no matter what the weather is .
Cool episode, loved to see these old trucks been driven. A few years back I spent 7 months in Virginia and bought a 93 F250 with the 460 as my daily. Only things it need were a heater core, and a drivers side window switch and I did a service including plus wires etc. Everything else including air just worked. Put little over 6k miles on it and loved the truck so much i brought it back to England. Though I did eventually sell it, but only because I was due to return to the US and this time was going to look for a 7.3 powerstroke. Sadly covid happened so plans are on hold right now.
Love that Ford
Kase's truck has cupholder version 1.0
Love that Dodge
Why?
"They don't make 'em like they used too"
@@WW-wf8tu that’s excatly what people don’t realize, newer cars are more reliable and need less maintenance
@@604h22a yeah but that’s not the argument it’s that these older trucks will last longer and you can fix them by yourself I’ll tell you one thing I don’t think we can even start to know how bad the electrical systems will be in 10 years on the new trucks.
@@WW-wf8tu not entirely true I have a 1995 Ford F-150 and even though it isn’t a true classic I can get just about any part I need for it now I’ll a agree that some cars that don’t have as big of following it is harder to get parts for them but for the most part you can go to the junkyard and get the parts you need for them
@@joshfenby4170 If you regularly drive long miles then l think a more modern vehicle is a better choice, have been in some seriously upgraded Series Land Rovers and while they are a lot more civilised than the stock versions, long trips could be tiring and l'm talking driving in England, not the huge distances sometimes covered in the States.
@@clooperman3745 I can’t disagree with that but I’ll say I think old vehicles have mostly style going for them for the most part but if you do rebuild everything it will last a lot longer than newer vehicles because newer vehicles are so much more complicated it’s harder to rebuild them that’s my main argument.
I love that old Ford!
My Chevy obs c1500 had those magically (not a cup holder ) cup holders on the passenger side dash.
I don't know about you, Andrey, but that Ford truck made me nostalgic about Soviet trucks, particularly GAZ-52/53. The metal, body-colored dashboard, long shifter lever, thin, large steering wheel, the engine whine, pretty much everything. The only thing different is that this Ford truck is smaller and probably a little easier to drive (I'm assuming it has power steering, which would make a big difference).
Fun vid guys- thanks!
This video was awesome! Defintly should do more videos like this one!
Yes we love these videos 😁
Great video. Those old Slick Side Fords are some of the best looking trucks ever made.
Drive around is great as well as the two trucks!!
Definitely more videos like this. Good job
Love the video style, it would be cool to see the F100 restored to forest service spec with green paint and beacon
Another brilliant video.
Enjoyed the video. Would love to drive both of the trucks.
The trick is to build simple designs that are under stressed, that’s how you make reliable engines
Great video
Good topic and video guys. Next, find a early 90’s F-150 300 6 popper stick with a 5 speed of trans
Not a dodge fan but that thing is absolutely beautiful.
Drive arounds are best!
Straight 6 for life baby
Setting up "play dates" for your trucks!
I kinda get Jay Leno vibes with you two driving around talking. Cool trucks.
The 318 and the 360 are the best dodge engines ever made
Laughs in blown transmissions and faulty electrical systems
@@Rick-so9bx laughs at the typical ignorant diatribe
@@Welcometofacsistube he's too young to know better but ya he's a dumb kid for sure.🤣
Slant 6 would be up there too . Dead reliable
@@Rick-so9bx what does that have to do with them being the best dodge engines ever made?
Imagine if Ford put a bigger cam and an aluminum head on the I-6.
I want to see a test drive of that old International R series garbage truck seen near the end of the video. Now that's old school.
For the ford 300, with 8.0 compression makes with the 1 barrel a flat 120HP + or minus 10HP
The EFI models make 145 HP 1987 to 1992 then
150HP for 93 to 97
Wish you guys could add or provide a video with issues and complications you have ran into with being smog compliant with boulder/denver regs.
Wow a video about old and reliable and my ad for it is the new VW id4 with sit to start lol
Love the older trucks...
Chase looks like a young Tom Cruise
I want to build one of those dodges with new or remanufactured parts. The one I'm wanting to build is a quad cab long bed dually in in patriot blue.
Love the dodge. Ready to see some performance upgrades to the ford. Engine, brakes, body work, interior dynomat, headliner, and maybe some extra gauges in that dash. Been a couple months. chop chop.
I've owned several Fords with the 300 straight-six and killed one of them. This engine was in a 1990 Ford Econoline 250 extended with a C6 Automatic. As soon as I got into town from a 240-mile trip, the rods started knocking and I knew full well that I spun a bearing. I'm the only guy I know who could kill a Ford 300.
6:00 It probably didn't have any belts when it was built.
Great video’s guys 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🦅.
I love old noisy trucks! The whining gears and the rattles. All so basic and fun.
And I am looking forward to seeing how the two trucks stack up against each other. Now if you only had an old Chevy truck, and an old Jeep pickup truck you could make it a foursome.
If there could only be one engine- for me it would be the venerable Inline Six! Gasoline or diesel, the I6 is hands down my favorite! Btw, check out Uncle Tony's Garage- he has swapped a Chrysler 170 c.i. Slant Six into a stripped Mazda Miata! Excellent project car!🤓
"I don't have a Rev counter"!
It's called a tachometer auto guy. Hahaha.
My old 97 ram... whenever I went on even a subtle curve I would hold any bottle or cup in those stupid cup holders.
The Ford is a Franken-truck!
Do you want to add a 2001 7.3 F-250 for that offroad segment? - Let me know.
The “ultra reliable”, 300 6 cylinder sounds like a diesel itself!! Hahaha.
You throw $20,000 at that truck and you would have a properly sound deadened interior, head liner like it should have, new steering column and probably even tilt steering. New springs that will keep the height, but improve the ride, at least front disc brakes, newly rebuilt transfer case, maybe a better transmission, clutch, then for another $10,000 you can have an appropriately powered engine in there. Reliable or not, that 300 is just wayyyy too underpowered for that truck. I have built 46 trucks and 1 car from almost scratch. All classics and most sounded this bad. If you were to ride in my 67 C10, you would be very surprised that there are no rattles, it’s quiet in the interior and you would think it just came off the showroom floor. It’s not underpowered and is running a Ramjet 350 with the E460 automatic in it. With 3:73s in the back with an automatic locking rear differential, it is great on the highway due to an overdrive and is still pleasantly quick. Not as fast as my 21 F150 PowerBoost,,, hahaha, but gives the Ridgeline a run for the money! My 67 Mustang is a notoriously loud 2+2 (fastback) and I was even able to get that to the point of no rattles and acceptably quiet. They are boomy at the best of times, but look soooo good, that can be overlooked. It again is showroom nice. Other than the bodywork, I did the rest of the work on these 2 vehicles. They are my current classics, but I am building a 1981 Corvette Crossfire Fuel Injected model currently. The powertrain is surprisingly good considering how it ran when I got it, new distributor and a few other tune up pieces and it runs quiet, strong and no oil consumption, that I can tell. No smoke on start up, soooo, fingers crossed. It shifts just fine as an automatic. The interior is a disaster and I have ordered almost $8k Canadian in parts, basically the entire interior including all new plastics. Before installing those, I have an appointment with the body shop to either refurbish, or repaint the car (original Dark Blue Metallic) , he doesn’t think it needs painting,,,, we shall see. I hope he is right.
Including purchase, bodywork etc I have about $30K in the 67 Chev and its showroom quality with 4 wheel disc brakes as the biggest improvement.
The 67 a Mustang was more as there was no interior and most of the gauges etc were missing. It was a rolling shell on steel temporary wheels. Just off the rotisserie and primed. I bought that and the paint job, it looks very stock as a GT “clone” although the numbers indicate it started its life as a 67 GT 390, a common model. The rims are 17” Magnum 500s and look sharp! Again 4 wheel disc brakes, Wilwood, just like the truck basically. I have slightly over $45k into it. It was appraised at $74 k, retail appraisal, not the “insurance appraisal which is so much higher. Such a scam.
The Vette, if the paint is refurbished, not a respray, will come in at about $17k including purchase. The guy thought it needed a motor and it looked much worse than it really was due to sitting in a leaky garage. It’s conceivable I will be backwards money wise on the Vette. I am way ahead on the Mustang and the C10. I did almost all the other work myself with a bit of help from my wife and a brother. (Stupid COVID,,,)
Fun hobby and after a couple of dozen you find they are pretty easy to do, mostly, it’s especially easy when you just buy new parts, but that’s not feasible $$$ if you are paying someone to put them in the vehicle.
Sorry about the long post, but it shows how easily they could make this truck nice!! There are decent parts availability and I know Kase can figure almost anything out given time and a little help from his dad on occasion. The guys is learning so much so fast!!! Welll done Kase. Tommy can definitely help even though he likes to make fun of himself, he has an awesome, if not a little expensive Mini!! He learned a lot on that car! It’s not generally hard work, if they could access a lift, or spend the $3500 or so to install one in their shop. Do all of their oil changes for the fleet would pay for itself in a few years. They can do the review of the undercarriage as part of their reviews. Not many if anyone is doing that yet!! TFL, you can run with that idea if you like, no problem here! They would learn a ton doing that themselves!
They do need to learn how to properly detail their vehicles before they go to auction. Although the last 3 truck prices were amazing!!
Thanks Andre and Kase!! Fun video, I liked the idea of this comparison.
I'm jealous of your vette! (and the C10 of course)
@@kasevr - thanks! Just got the word today that it should be painted. OUCH $$$$! HAHA. I will definitely be underwater on the Vette. Oh well can’t take it with ya!

Compare those off road!
Cummins all day. Dodge makes it but Cummins shakes it
Besides all the bad issues like dash cracked and certain things that can be fixed the Cummins takes the game all day yes new cars are more comfortable now but it’s made so you always take it to a shop /dealership and the old school Cummins you can fix it on the side of the road
Cummins or any Diesel engines will outlive any gasoline engines that for sure over millions miles engines will outlive you!

My 1950s tractor is more refined than that Ford f100 but I love the simplicity
