Islam gave womanhood property and divorce rights 1400 years ago before our beautiful England of love gave women property rights. Islam taught people that they cannot kill disobedient children as was customary in olden times nor, can a Muslim do genocide on any land-if they did, they were not following Quran-nor can they kill random civilians or destroy trees or houses of worship of other cousin Faiths during wars -as some people do in our world.

Sura 22:16-17, “Thus We have sent down Clear Signs; and verily Allah guides whom He will. / “Those who believe in the Qur’an, those who follow the Jewish Scriptures, and the Sabians, Magians, and Polytheists,-Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgement: for Allah is Witness of all things.”
The Magians seemed to be ancient, wise Persians -remember those who brought gifts to Jesus, on whom be peace. The Sabeans are also mentioned in previous Scriptures. And there are many amazing polytheists such as the great Mahatma who loved reading about the Prophet of Islam -on whom be peace -whose excellent works only Allah will judge, and not fellow humans. In Quran, the individuals’ works and Faith count towards salvation -and it sure is hard work but to follow the religion requires a spiritual discipline. ❤️

This verse clearly does not talk about “Wali” among Christians or Jewish people. It talks about “Affection” and “Friendship”. So it has nothing to do with 5/51. 5/51 gives an order to the believers to not seek close and dependable “alliances” with Christians or Jewish people/nations
This translation, and many others use,“Allies” or “Friends” as meaning of “Wali” in the said verse. Wali, in the Arabic language, has a wide set of meanings, none of which are used to simply mean “buddy, pal or acquaintance”, the way that we would use the term “friend” in modern times to denote our casual relationships with colleagues at work, peers at school or neighbors. In an everyday reading of the Qur’an, after reading this question initially, I came across the word wali and its various derivatives multiple times; sometimes it meant “guardian”, other times, “discharger of affairs or executor”, or “protector and ally”, and even “inheritor”. “Friendship” can be included in this, but walaa’ is a type of intimate and extremely loyal bond that is not used for everyday friendships in Arabic

Al-Qur’an (5:51):
O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.
