Still one of the most awesome Music-Movies, my favourite together with the Blues Brothers. And the brillant Glen Hansard only played a small part and now he sings at the funeral of Shane MacGowan…
I was 8 when this came out. The film was so good to the point in 40 now I never forget them. "Dark end of the street" makes me cry 😢 I miss you so much, dad. I will see you again in the blink of an eye. I'm looking after my mum like I promised you I would. She's an old woman now dad, she's 68 with a beautiful head of grey/white hair, and she is still beautiful. It will be a few years yet till she comes up.. but don't worry, dad, we're all coming eventually ❤❤❤❤
This was the last one of the few movies my dad took me to the cinema for, when I was eleven, a year before he died. So yeah it makes me sad... but more importantly it makes me proud of and grateful for his impeccable taste
@J----L absolutely, babe. Our parents had great taste. I notice that the older I get. I look at some of the films and songs I liked when I was 19 and laugh that I even thought they were good. Commitments was an amazing film xx
@J----L so so sorry. People wonder. "Why be sorry he was 11/12) well I'm not like that and I'm so sorry but so glad this brilliant film brings great memories of your dad. May he eternally rest in peace. Oh, and he did have impeccable taste. Are you from the uk like me, too, x
*Andrew Strong is the real deal - loved the movie when it first come out, bought the tapes played them until they were chewed up by the tape player and now I've just found this little gem of a show!!*
When The Commitments came out, Alan Parker stated he was trying to recapture the original Fame (1980), where all the cast were genuinely musicians. Some of the grittiness of Fame, diminished due to the saccurine kids tv series. The Commitments still feels authentic to it's place and time, thanks to the legacy of the cast.
Thank you from Japan. This movie Blu-ray will be released at August 8th, 2024 in Japan at last. I will not wait my memory 33 years ago. Angeline Ball is still deva of soul music, I think.
Years ago came across this " nothing" movie on cable. Made me laugh at every scene, fascinated with characters. Watched it three times..bought it shortly after. Now,I watch and hope for another " gem" like this!
I loved this movie when it came out - not because it was the greatest movie ever but it was very different than anything I had seen before. Went to a bar on lower Greenville in Dallas Texas right around this time and they had a band that played Mustang Sally that night - so much fun!!!!! RIP to my friend Amy Gloddo that went with me that night. Thanks for posting this!
Dark end of the street and Chain chain chain are just so bloody good. On the album there was an extra track from Niamh Kavanagh singing the full version of Destination Anywhere which was really good too. Stunning voice. The song was featured in the movie whilst they were riding on a bus, but only for a short while.
For anyone who doesn't know, all the band members in 'The Commitments' were great singers in real life. The big guy with the ponytail - who we see here singing Mustang Sally - was discovered, in real life, one night when he was a bit drunk, and he was singing at a train station in Ireland. And that's the same way Rod Stewart was discovered back in the day!
The story about Andrew Strong being discovered while singing in [insert random sounding place] while drunk is completely made up. People just spread it because it feels good, but it isn't true. What really happened was he was performing in a band when The Corr's manager spotted him and recommended him to the movie's director. He spent a couple of days rehearsing the songs before going to the audition. He only had to sing two songs before they were going over the script together.
@@coolnamebro Also not true! Andrew Strongs Dad, Rob, was the vocal coach for the band in the movie and one day Andrew performed a rehearsal of Mustang Sally and the director heard it and thought he'd be perfect for the role!
Yeah, I remember, back then, after watching the movie I've been thinking like: movie or not - that was one of the best live cover of Tenderness I've ever heard, it was quite memorable one to be honest, so this video is like - unbelievable.. I never knew that they actually could really do it , especially not this good, on a real stage, as a band.. Amazing. Thank you🎶
The Commitments... The whole line-up lines up on my wall aside a bunch of pictures of memorable moments of my life, a bit like a group of good friends from across the sea - that I hadn't seen in a while... - one of the greatest movies of all times! ("on a fucking Suzuky...?") Yeah...! The Soul, man, the Soul... :) and what a perfect name it is! PS: Imelda... I still looooove ya...! Imelda forever! Thank you evyone, I'm out...

Surprising to see Johnny Murphy on the stage with a trumpet. He was the only non-musician in the film. Don't know if he learned subsequently or was faking it.
I saw them live in San Rafael, Marin County, California , fresh off the film playing in the USA . They were F’ing devilishly Fun and FANTASTIC !! Wish they did stay together and do more R+ B classics! But, yeah, I bet they would’ve killed each other (like the band did in their time together), ifn they had! 😅 Love 🎉
I had heard that they had formed a band with SOME of the original players. It looks here like they got ALL the originals players plus some! That is OK by me!!!!! This wowed me as much as the movie did!!! YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
I notice the comments where everyone is surprised these guys could walk the talk... keep in mind they didn't hire actors to play musicians... they hired musicians to fill the cast parts. So yeah... they walk their talk really well dontcha think?
Great concert! I loved the movie and the soundtrack. The female backup vocalist on the left looks a lot like Katy Perry with her short blonde hairstyle.

@@amandajones6481 Yes, they could be twins! Or maybe that's Katy's mom? And I always thought the other blonde backup singer in the middle resembled the actress Virginia Madsen at the time.
Still great music in 2023
The movie was pretend but the musicians were not. This is raw, electrifying talent at its finest.

Best music in a film. Irish soul.

It was a huge hit in the UK, so not a nothing movie at all.

That's where bands belong ...in a cozy tavern 🍺 ✨
You are a bit mean. This band belongs in every church in the country.
Maria Doyle is life. God damn I love her voice
This is amazing! And its great to see they're every bit as good as they pretend to be in the movie...!

MAGNIFICENT!!!!! I have the CD in my hands, to listen to it all over again😁
As an Irish man I am so proud of this group
We're black and we're proud.
Found the CD in a 2nd hand shop last week…..Yes, I’m a lucky fella’
The way Andrew strong performs and delivers, reminds me a lot of Joe Cocker
I thank it was more Tom Jones
First person I thought of when I heard him back in 91....
I'll go along wid that, one of the best gigs I ever saw was Joe at The Kent Custom Bike Show (HAMCKEW), Fucking Awesome!
I was shocked to learn he was only 16 when it was filmed
I didn’t know till I started visiting France regularly, quite a few years years ago, but Joe Cocker is treated like a God there. They adore him.
