You’ve got it! *Édith Piaf* is the mother of all the French singers who draw on their own experience to interpret a song by fully embodying the character or the idea stage in this one (Lara Fabian, for example). It's a typically French art.
I remember 2 years ago it was in 2021 when France was represented by Barbara Pravi and her song Voilà she finished at the 2nd place in the Eurovision Song Contest that year.

the final few phrases of the song before that giant build up she's basically asking all her haters/ "Did I succeed at singing "La Grande France" as she is Maroccan-Canadian

The comparison with Mimicat doesn't make much sense: Mimicat's song is much richer in sounds and, although there is something chanson and classy, it is burlesque, ethnic Hispanic, Balkan, Portuguese and, imo, much more catchy. This one from La Zarra is basically chanson and disco. The chorus doesn't break through. But maybe it will be in the top 10 of the jury.
What is the analysis regarding France's choices this year? Last year the delegation wanted to offer something different by highlighting Breton, which is an important language in French culture and roots, as well as a truly original type of music to differentiate itself... Result "we wants French, your song is not synonymous with "France" => ranking 24"
So inevitably for this year, no more mistakes, we go back to basics. They were obliged to offer the musical style that the people of the world EXPECT from France.
And yet with references to the 1940s for the outfit, references to French song with Piaf, Brel, Dalida or Aznavour for the voice. They have succeeded very well in bringing something modern to the music with the Funk/Pop side.
The truth is that France is locked in by the standards and expectations of the voting public. If we propose a half-naked clown dressed in neon green who cries out to pop/electro music with a choreography worthy of an 8-year-old child like Finland, we are thrown tomatoes and sent to the thirtieth ranking position...
