Singing by children of Macalder School (@ now closed Macalder Mine, Nyanza, Kenya)during my return trip to my birthplace. This was my first school between 1967-69.
lived in Macalders Mines in early 1970s when my husband doing PhD work - we'd come from Papua New Guinea - but afraid all my photos from that time now destroyed in the tropics. but wonderful to see the cheerful singing and happiness... great place. best wishes
By way of background, I made this trip from London in July 2003. My brother-in-law and I arrived without any warning. The welcome we got was so touching, and within 45minutes the school choir had got together to sing for us (before the present video). The very genuine affection resulted in the children following us to the car and did another performance as a send-off (without being asked to by teachers). Experiences like this have reinforced my faith in human nature.
