This is a really good video! Explains the issue/symptoms perfectly! My 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback DX has a bad break booster and you described it to a T in this video! Great Job!!
Thanks bro! Was 100% my issue. You speak in a way that norms can understand
So many damn videos watched and finally! I find it, I switched the master cylinder since it was the cheaper option to start with. When i press the brake it goes to the floor and hisses the entire time. So many videos talking about the stiff brake pedal but never the hissing noise. Thank you!
6th symptom at idle in park when you apply the break the engine rpm goes up because booster is torn internally the hissing sound may or not be present!
My god, you’ve done it. I’ve been looking for this comment everywhere for a year.
Replacing it immediately, seeing if it that fixes it
We have same symptoms. When braking a car makes like fluctuating noice and some whistle while accelerating. We thought its from turbo intake hoses, etc, or the worn gears, calipers, shaft bearings, etc. Pedal looks stiff also rps increase a bit as you say. Will do a smoke test I gues and inspect cylynder. But I think this will be it 😂 I was thinking could that be reason if two persons were bleeding brakes and and one hit hard on brakes, another purged on screw, tighten, release.I think that could be a reason for membrane damage. As I remeber a termitaror was bleading the brakes 😂
Wanted to come back and say this fixed my P0171 code, replaced booster myself. Thank you so much
Great to hear!
This really helped me thanks
Thank for saving me from changing my booster was just a line leak good job keep it up
Fantastic, simple, elegant explanation!!
Great one.. Theyre recalling lots of Mercedes 4wds with a BBooster corrosion problem..including mine for inspection amd possible replacement Im checking myself thanks.
I appreciate your detailed, clear simple explanation
Thank you!
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but another symptom of a bad brake booster is if you have brake fluid running down the front of the booster below the master cylinder. This means the booster is leaking and putting vacuum to the master cylinders rear seal and drawing fluid past it.
This video was sooo helpful. I've been trying to figure out the problem for months with my GMC Yukon Truck. And my truck have all the symptoms in this video to the T lol . Thank you so much
Awesome! Thank you
Same here with my 04 Gmc Truck loud hissing noise every time i drive i knew it had to be from my brakes
Clean Vid, Thank You, I'm thinking you're spot on.
I have a problem with brake on my 2007 Chevy uplander, can you please, share a video on how it work and how to check
Yeap nice video have to get mine done very soon mine is doing two of those issues and its not cheap either lol
Thank you for Good Info!!!
Got EXACTLY what I needed, within the first minute. Thanks man
Hello. I have a skoda superb 2016 1.8 tsi. My problem is my brake sometimes remains in boost mode even after I release the pedal. The pedal comes back but the master sticks. I noticed that it releases slowly with a hissing sound after i release the pedal. My car has 80000kms on the odo and never gave me such trouble until lately. The brakes were bled 15000kms ago. The rear pads were changed 3000kms ago.
Can a failed brake booster cause a stutter when I hit the throttle in park only on a cold start? I have all brake lights coming on and off in my car and the stutter stops once I start driving. I hear a hissing under the steering wheel after I shut the car off. It's a 2010 dodge charger 3.5l
Would this cause my breaks vibrate, have a stiff break pedal, I ask because my vehicle breaks like if I was on a icy road, please help
Great job nice video
My cuz has a 2005 hyundai santa fe that keep stalling when you press the brakes.
I looked at the brake pedal and disconnected the brake switch. All of a sudden the car doesn't stall anymore when you press on the brakes.
I was thinking it was the brake booster but 1st ima change the bake switch and then go from there.
Any suggestion?
Iam experiencing a change in idle when I press and hold brakes but when let go it drops n I smell oil when I rev up hard like(I changed the pcv but still experiencing) and another my brake booster have a rust surface beneath n that coat black is wearing off
Big job? Or not. Ugh. I wish i knew, I’ve given up on “mechanics “! But this gives me alot of hope as i would appreciate more detailed info here. Thx. female here believing in myself 💃
You need a man!
Keep following your heart. Critical thinking is needed to understand mechanical parts and how they fail. I recently took apart a vacuum pump, which ran but vacuum was constant but intermittently pushing air. There was a flimsy oring that was allowing air to pass. Sealed w rtv and it blew like I’d want my next girlfriend to blow or suck.
4 bolts and a clip under Steering wheel. 2 bolts in engine.....socket or wrench.
The last 3yrs I've had faith in CZcams and having the tools to do the job 😂haven't failed me yet😊
Depends on the vehicle..... Most trucks are easy small car need more removed to get to it.... Good luck!
Good one
My 23 Camry is have a hissing noise when I let off the break pedal, also have a growling knock sound I can here from inside and technician told me it was my vacuum pump, but online says vacuum pump break booster but online looks different is there a different pump, that black peice is the master cylinder
I had to luck to subscribe this channel, thanks for information 👍 🙏
We have a VW Touran Tdi 2011 model (automatic). We have a whooshing sound when pressing the brake, always air in the lines, the brake pedal goes down far before the brakes bite and braking distance is too long (also weak) however after bleeding its always better, somehow air is coming into the system but we dont know from where, we think its the booster as we have replaced the Master Cylinder already. We have some residue on the inside of the booster under the dash/pedal, could that mean a faulty seal? We dont have a rock hard pedal but still think its a leak when you press the pedal. Any ideas?
Just had a debate about if the pedal goes stiff or to the floor for a bad booster, thanks man🤣
Can this car to stall out and shut off when putting your car in drive and reverse?
Can a bad break booster cause the ABS TO KICK ON PREMATURELY?
You’re tha man, I hope you know that
Can a bad brake booster also affect the clutch if they are together?
my car won’t start and i had all those symptoms should i try and take out the air form the break booster ? and start it again ? i thought it was my band i guess not …
Great video!
Thank you!
My chevy malibu literally just stays on the floor when brake is pressed down and I have to manually push the brake pedal back up again, could this also be the brake booster or the vacuum or maybe both? If so, how do I diagnose that myself?
I think my 91 Ford f350 having brake problems. I'm trying to go the store and I push down on the brake pedal to put it in drive and my truck few out the driveway won't even stop but it stops at stop signs and red lights all the way to the store and even on my back home. Front brakes are brand new.
I got a spongey pedal but I still have a hiss
Bro..can i ask something..my Mitsubishi asx before i press start button.. first thing i press brake and it make sounds like air fushh fushh like that...but after engine start...that sound already gone..only before i start the car...it will have that sound like something wrong with brake booster... anyone know wht the main cause... because i ask formen and he said normal? Is that true?
I have a Toyota Aqua 2014 hybrid. I had no symptoms at all. I took it in to the machanic to have my muffler checked and a hissing noise when I reverse or tune my steering wheel.. After they hooked up the diagnostic machine unto the car I was told I need a master cylinder
I've similar symptoms, ive changed the BMC but it didn't work. Sometimes my break works sometimes not. I also hear a noise like air pump when pressing the paddle. My left back wheel is not pulling break oil. Maybe some air trapped inside? Oil doesn't come from one abs valve. What should I do
You said that the heasing noise you hear without pressing thr pedal, but thats when u hear it. As soon as i press the brake pedal i hear air. Hard pedal also
Can anyone help me understand why my break pedal has gone soft all of a sudden? Some times it goes all the way to the floor
Exactly what's happening
I only get the check engine light. I'm getting a P0171 code.
man i have changed injectors, high fuel pump, low fuel pump, fuel filter, pcv valve, maf sensor. spark plugs, coils , and still a p0171 i hope its the booster going to keep changine stuff intake manifold next or turbo
I have a 89 Nissan Sentra,if I give it a couple of pumps it will hold ,but then it will slowly go down and also has a rough idle while holding the brake pedal down and sometimes it stalls.Im thinking of replacing the brake booster and check valve.
I like to just replace the whole car after 35 years or so. Give or take.
I have too P0170 vs I have too this problem😇😊👍
Please advise
I have a system too lean code P0171 code. When I press brake it makes the hissy noise. Should the whole brake booster be replaced?
Same issue
@@RealityRoulette4 changed the brake booster and problem solved. 🙌🏼
@Carlosv24 thanks ! was it running/idling rough and stalling ?
@@RealityRoulette4 no not at all. Drove great. Would just hear the hissing when breaking and would not pass smog.
@Carlosv24 Hmm thanks ! Just had it scanned got a no issues found but code p0171 and have thrown every new part at it except this , so here we go
Any chance the petal drops straight to the floor with a bad booster also? I replaced the master cylinder but still no petal! Arghhhhhh
Did you ever find an answer to this?
@@salinsoulok3338 yes I did bad bleed on the brakes, I used a pump to bleed the brakes better and it worked.
Air in the lines
Lol i was thinking the same thing 😂
"hissy" noise stopps when applying the brake wut does that mean ? emgine check and all
Did you figure it out? Same problem here . thanks
I have a stiff brake pedal and couple of times i the brakes depressed fully and the car would not move and a check engine light came on 30min later the brakes released and i could drive the car and the check engine light turned off is that a bad booster ?
yes mine nissan murano 2012 have that issue that break pedal is still, I went to mechanic they said its brakes they change rotors and pads- paid 800$ and after 2 weeks again break pedal is still today and I cannot move to Drive and start car. Did u fix your car?
@@zyciewusatvbygosia8880 yes i did change the booster and it fixed the problem
You will feel the brake pad go softer as soon as you start the car with a new booster
How much booster cost ?
@@user-rb6iy2lq8p new around $700 so i got it from pick a part for $40
Now what's the fix
What about when the actual brake pedal stays down and your foot is off the pedal .
can this happen even without engine warning light ?
Yes
the brakes in my car (Opel Astra) work ok, but since some time ago the noise only occurs when pressing and releasing. There is no noise when fully pressed or released, or when it's pressed halfway. The noise occurs both when the engine is on and off. The brakes pass the test, BUT the noise appeared. is this a possible problem in the future?
Here is the video czcams.com/video/C2P89jiYrAk/video.html
Diaphragm of brake booster is torn if you hear hissing when you break. If you hear the sound without pressing down on the brakes, then it’s likely to be because of the brake booster plunger seal.
Faulty brake booster plunger seal
Is someone chocking you out whilst you're talking?
New booster and master cylinder just the back brakes no pressure from master cylinder 2001 gmc somoma v6
Chris you didnt have to change your voice to create a second channel
Codes? We don't need no stinking codes. Lol😅
This would’ve helped before I crashed into a train
I'm a very mechanical guy but I'm stumped on this one. I have a 2008 Escalade. Brakes were perfect, I even put on all new rotors, calipers and pads about a year ago and brakes have been super smooth and worked perfectly. But last week I had to really stand on the brake pedal to keep from hitting a car that pulled out in front of me. I wasn't going fast, maybe 10 MPH or less. But since then the brakes want to stay engaged under certain conditions. If I come to a complete stop, the brakes release fine. But if I lightly press the brakes like to slow for a turn or to go over a speed hump the brakes lock. They don't "lock" as I can't move the truck, but when I remove my foot the truck continues to slow down and come to a stop on it's own. A quick firm press on the pedal and it releases but driving is a pain. The pedal seems to not be retracting all the way up in these conditions. I can put my foot under the pedal and pull up to release it. And of course when trying to drive the truck with the brakes lightly engaged I get all the ABS, traction control warning lights. Any thoughts?
Teota Camry 😂
I could not finnish your video due to your rollercoaster style of talking. Good luck.
I could not finish reading your comment due to your posts’ lack of readability. Good luck. “Finnish” should be capitalized if that’s what you are going for.
Why are you trying to speak like chrisfix..
😂😂😂😂
Oh go away
😂😂
Need speak faster Y ARE U TALKIN SLOW
So people can comprehend what he's saying...
alright so is it theoretically possible that a bad brake booster might leak braking fluid into the vaccum system of the car?
Iam experiencing a change in idle when I press and hold brakes but when let go it drops n I smell oil when I rev up hard like(I changed the pcv but still experiencing) and another my brake booster have a rust surface beneath n that coat black is wearing off
