I'm 5'9" with almost all my friends being 6' or taller, which means I'm also 4'11.5" tall. Short kings rise up.

You gotta do a lot of stretching exercises beforehand. It doesnt target the lats nor the glutes as much as other exercises. IMO its not really worth it.

For me a wide grip on the latpull down feels really uncomfortable in my shoulders and in the beginning of my fitness journey I think I pulled something there. So I never went back, thinking I was physically unable to do it.
Glad I learned the truth at some point and looking back this feels kinda silly, but when you’re new to all of this, stuff like this can really drag you down.
So thanks Dr. Mike for putting this out 👍🏻 You might’ve opened up a newbie’s eyes and kept them going
What is better for building your lats?
@@mechastro2205 All are viable to build you lats. I remember picking up that gripping wider or narrower will target the outer or inner part of your lats more respectively, but I’m personally not sure if that’s completely true and how much of a difference it actually makes.
My best advice to you would be to just try around a bit and find out what feels best to you personally. As long as you feel your lats you’re good to go.
Yup. Same here. My shoulder gets all snap, crackle and pop when I do wide grip lat pull downs or pull-ups. Thankfully, medium grip doesn’t cause that problem.

Idk if Ive been imagining it, but wide grip to me feels much more like its an upper back movement. Whereas narrow tracks the arms in and puts a lot of tension on the lats proper.
Yeah that’s what I’ve felt as well, only issue for me is more narrow hits my arms more so it’s rly hard to maximize my lat engagement
@@tinocabral4201I could only speculate as to why, but I always do narrow grip underhanded like a close chin up grip. That hits my lats pretty well.
Why that is? I would guess that maybe the elbows tracking inward like that pre stretches the lats. And a supinated grip sort of naturally keeps them turned in. That's just a guess though.

@@qp9259my thinking is that the lat runs along my ribs/spine idk but it runs upwards when I stand up, and the lat pull down with narrow grip has my hands traveling at that same angle
its the exact opposite. Both grips will hit midback. You can't isolate one from the other. Narrow grip will just get more bicep involvement due to your elbows having to bend more during the rep.

I find a narrow grip feels more comfortable and I am activating my lats more than when I use a wider grip. Glad to know there's no penalty.
Define no penalty. It's fine bc it works, doesn't mean it's not working on the same muscles. Wide grip is more lat do my dominant, aka becoming wide. Narrow grip is more mid dominant and uses more bicep, hence it's easier, and gives more thickness. You should use both throughout your training.

@@Enyamasparw no I didn't. Wide grip increases width, narrow grip increases thickness. I was a gymnast and still very active, and have degrees on human bio. I can do 2x body weight pullups for sets of 10-15 with proper form, I guarantee I know more about this topic than you do.

Seems like I usually never see a jacked bodybuilder who is also really tall. Arnold is an exception but, usually, the bodybuilders seem to be shorter because they can put on mass a lot easier. So, I'm not sure your "deficiency" is really any real disadvantage. That said, you're amazing and I really appreciate your content! Thanks for posting!

I tried the very small attachment for lat pulldown last back day. Idk what it is called but it is basically a very narrow v shaped grip.
I thought my lats were gonna rip off when i used it. You can stretch so fucking good with it.
Only problem was that it was very slippery and i have weak hands + you can't use straps on it.
