      Monstrous Rage is a pretty good pump spell. +3/+1 & trample for R isn't quite Rancor, but it's ok.
      Royal Treatment is almost playable to dodge Bowmaster, but not actually good. If there was any black in the deck, Not Dead After All seems funny, getting the dude back after Thud.

      @@DimT670 True, but traditionally efficient removal was always 1-for-1 or required sacrificing early development to hold up. Fury absolutely murks any deck based around X/1s in a way that none of the cheap damage-based wraths did before, Bowmasters gets on board and makes chump-blockers in addition to sniping, and even Solitude is just always waiting in the wings to deal with an unexpectedly large creature when this deck goes tall. The difference between getting Bolted or Plowed versus getting Bowmastered or Furied (Fury'd?) is enormous.

While they're both one mana to deal a creature's power to anything and sac it, if your fling gets countered the sell sword version doesn't sac youre creature, giving you the possiblilty to play a second one in the same turn to finish them off. My lament:
      Anything with x/1s that need to attack have been having a rough go of it. Lava Dart and W&6 forced changes in deck construction, but could be worked around. Fury, Solitude, and to a lesser extent the other evoke elementals were a brutal hit, and pushed me out of feeling like I could play all but BG Infect.
      (Urza's Saga also outclassed RG Eldrazi all by itself, as faster big bodies while also being a much smaller deck building constraint. Murktide and Archon get honorable mentions, too.)
      Bowmaster plus Delighted Halfling cemented that x/1s are no longer _intended_ to be viable, and Modern isn't really going to be about creatures again. Unless those creatures are free, removal, combo pieces, and/or are self-contained value engines.

    For my personal preference I would probably cut the vines and the Rancors and bring in 2 Reckless charge, 4 mutagenic growth and 2 Underworld Breach. The Mutagenics protect you from ping effects for 0 mana and can often get kills with Underworld Breach. Charge seems nice to just get kills out of nowhere.

      Huh. Yeah, Goblin Grenade seems like an obvious addition. The Role instants are slept on in general. Noble seems about as cute as Khalni Garden, but Ignoble being a Goblin makes it maybe ok as Grenade fodder.
      Kinda gotta fix the manabase. I'd also recommend a couple Wear / Tear or something in the sideboard because Chalice counters the entire deck.

      @LibertyMonk Ancient Grudge would be the best anti-Chalice option, IMO.
      Yeah, I didn't mention the mana base because Seth mentioned that already. But it should be more fetches. Especially if you run Underworld Breach.
      Ignoble is nice because of the exalted trigger. But Noble not tapping for red or being a Goblin is a no-go.

    this feels like a good idea with a medium execution, the mana base is off, ragavan feels thrown in cause good card is good but a combo deck shouldn't be doing that generally, too many sorceries speed pumps that lead to getting 2 for 1'd but very light on protection.
    Admittedly in a different metagame, it might be fine as is but in the current metagame you are just gonna get lose to instant speed removal.

    • @anaphysik
      @anaphysik Před 11 měsíci +1

      In many ways that makes it significantly *worse*. Sacrificing-as-a-cost means that the opponent cannot fizzle the spell by removing your creature in response.

    I feel like the deck would be a lot more playable with a better manabase. no mountains and no G/R fetches is kind of baffling honestly. Only having 10 possible ways to get untapped red mana on turn 1 does not seem good in a deck where you want to play a red 1 drop on turn 1.

    • @LibertyMonk
      @LibertyMonk Před 11 měsíci

      You'd need to totally rework the deck into being an infect deck at that point, since the Scamp and Thud package clash with Infect.

    • @squee147
      @squee147 Před 11 měsíci

      @@LibertyMonk the deck is a weenie pump deck. Infect and scamp/thud are two win conditions that work with that theme. Glistener elf is another card that combos with the pump spells to win on the spot.
