That first game was nuts. Beating that cascade deck gives me hope.
That was a crazy game!
23:34 Actually Path of Peril wouldve been a perfect answer to the board state that I do see sometimes played in Standard, seeing that tutor I was expecting that blowout
Was waiting for the same thing, throw for the goat is definitely not going to do it.
IMO, it's hard to justify a maindeck Path of Peril for Best of 3 unless you have white as well for the cleave mode, as there's just too many common matchups where it doesn't do enough. That might change if the meta settles into a format where this deck along with monored are popular enough, though, and Best of 1 is generally aggro enough that it's good.
@Icameron259 Oh for sure, it's not likely or very correct to maindeck, it was just funny that it was technically an option when Seth said there was nothing that could stop him.
It's a shame theres no room for jinny fey, she seems like she'd be so strong in this deck but those thopters having haste and flying is probably too important to run her
Yeah, Jinny Fay is awkward in the deck. It offers more power, but the evasion on the Thopters is really big. I think it might actually be a downgrade overall.
As soon as you replace the thops with cats or dogs, they don't have haste anymore.
the cats do have haste, but the evasion is more important.
Yeah i wish we could play Shelly somehow
Especially with how many ways there are to pump the tokens the extra 1 toughness and power on those cats isn't worth losing flying
I always appreciate the deck breakdowns that both you and Crim do, though interestingly enough of all the information presented in the deck tech, I don't see a C/U/R/MR count. Considering the card types are presented twice in the same layout (upper right and lower left), have y'all ever considered finding a spot for card rarity count? With how popular Arena is, I find it interesting that it's not a feature.
It's easy to see in the articles (with decklists), but I agree that it would be nice to add to the videos since I rarely (almost never) read the articles
I replaced the swiftspear with skrelv and I have had a lot of success like that
Ohh, I like that idea. Protecting Pia seems helpful.
I misread this title as 'Naya Pie' and thought this was a food deck
On another note, though, I will always love aggressive draw decks that play directly into the heart of "I own all of my cards, I'm gonna see all of my cards"
Mmm...pie.
One card: Thopter Pie Network
Oh, shit. As long as you control an artifact, make a food token per upkeep?@@DragonAttack515
You can add some food with rocco
Cream Pia...
22:30 it was, in fact, lethal unless they had instant speed draw in response to phyrexian arena because being at 1 life means death with phyrexian arena even with sheoldred on the board :)
I saw that and then when the opponent tutored and Seth starts listing 3 mana board wipes I thought for sure it was going to be path of peril.
Not only does Sheoldred not interact with your 'card draw', but you also ignore the hand size limit, giving you plenty of instant options during your opponents turn.
After putting some hours into the deck, I really think research desk is the best enabler in the deck. Ive been on 4 copies and it feels so much better now.
Seth and CGB putting up Naya tokens on the same day. Love this deck, it's super cool to see it from both sides.
I wish Rocco would catch on like Pia did, he is really fun too
Probably doesn't see play cuz it gives your opponents cards
He slipped under my radar, but after a few matches against him in Historic Brawl he actually looks very resilient and fun
Yeah, I tried Rocco in a Food Fight deck. It's a fun card, but giving the opponent a free card each turn is risky.
I like playing a couple Roccos with my Pias, even if it's risky. If you can get both in play, you get a lot more value from the free exiled cards than your opponent.
been testing a variant of this shell with 2x rocco and 4x bunnicorn, gotta tune up the deck a fair amount but it is a very fun time when it pops
Pollen-shield hare has been putting in a lot of work for me. With the amount of tokens you get from Pia, Virtue, and Announcement it does a lot of work. Plus the adventure side can one shot if you go wide at all.
Yeah i think that cards underrated I've even been trying it in modern lol. Although fury.
I'm so happy to see casualty ob nixilis making a little return. That's kind of a pet card of mine and I've been seeing it showing back up again.
that first game was something else, kept me on the edge of my seat!
G1 M2 you had Destroy Evil in exile which could get copied by Chandra to annihilate their board.
Kind of sets up cars draw with lots of red, loved playing this deck for the past week
Where is SaffronOlive? Is he alright? Is he safe?
this whole video has me excited to see all kind of new decks
Beautiful. Just beautiful
This looks like a fun deck! One of the few that makes me consider playing constructed Magic.
It's super fun to play!
Win rate of 69%, so "I guess this deck is nice at least" without any hint of innuendo tone. So smoothe!
I play a Boros Version of this deck, because I don't had all of the card. This is a very fun deck. I called mine Pia Anthem.
Try Jeskai with Urza
Nice!
My version was a jeskai one with lots of legendaries, exile draw, and battles.
Worked perfectly.
Seems like jetmir might be a good finisher as well! +3/+0 double strike and trample in most cases seems pretty big
I've been considering building a Boros tokens deck in EDH for a while, and I think this video has pushed me towards Pia as commander.
I did that and if you put in a phyrexian Altar or an inspirering statuary it becomes a make your own Prosper. But the thopter feel better because not only can you use them for mana but they also become damage and you can sac them to scull lamp and draw carfs
Hm.. Pia Tokens. PIA TOKens. Piatok in my language means Friday. And you uploaded this video on a Friday 😁
I feel a strange sense of ...strangeness from the coincidence lining up to this moment.
Do you think there’s space for pollen shield hare? It pumps the thopters and if you cast the adventure side it enters from exile
I really liked old scute swarm and thought about a 3 blind mice copy deck but this might be looking better. Though i only every play single games
The one problem I have with this list is knockout blow. Hitting it off of an impulse is more-or-less useless.
Edit: also watching Seth get shocked instead of pitching excess lands to ob was difficult
It's really good against red aggro tbh
@seththeace6217 I haven't played the matchup enough to form an opinion on who is favored, but regardless of that, it should really remove knockout blow. If it's a good matchup, then you can shore up bad matchups instead or just add removal that is less specific. If it's a bad matchup, then it needs a card to fix the matchup that doesn't work against its strategy.
It's not *that* bad to hit off of an Impulse, no worse than Chandra is. (first time I brought her in from the sideboard, I exiled both copies with my first two impulses. Was rough lol)
In the matchups you want it in, if you can force them to not attack into knockout blow for a couple of turns until it goes away, that's still a win for you.
@cha0sniper it's only ever going to be active for one turn, and it's always better to have your removal have extra functionality and to avoid hyper restrictive removal when you're an impulse deck.
Any room for Queen Allenal in this deck or would it feel like a "win more" card? Yeah, no evasion, but getting a 1/1 blocker in addition to your 1/1 thopter sounds like it'd be nice.
24:40 Thop! Thop, he's already dead!
This Pia deck looks so sweet
Any idea on how to change out Questing Druid and all the green lands?
Why aren’t the channel lands in the mana base?
What do you think of sunset revelry in the side board for agro decks?
Why didn't you add the new adventure rabbit? It is seeing play in the Pioneer version and it is a powerhouse.
I wish questing druid was questing dryad. Quirion dryad was such a house back then, and the nod would have been fun.
Is there a room for a Jetmir fun one off? I fell in love with him when New Cappena dropped.
Wonder if one or two Blazing Crescendo would give some reach + exile as well - Could be a sneaky punch!
Oh this would be sweet in modern too!!
Do you think the sword of forge and frontier is a good add. It's a repeatable source of card draw and Exile as well
I am playing Pia in some form since Aftermath (R/W/g with Rocco, Fay and Darien, explorer with og Eldraine cards, Saheeli+Tezzeret Jeskai etc.) and this deck works best so far (I play it with Pollen-Shield hare) and I love how it plays down, but it is not Sheoldred beater it end up like 27th on last tournament with huge black dominance and that was when black did not care about this deck. After this get bit more popular, everyone will just sideboard some -/- for all creatures or Brotherhood's End which takes down Thopthers rly well.
But most fun standard deck from wilds of Eldraine by far
I really like this deck, but I collect slowly enough where there’s a decent chance the next rotation will happen before I could finish it out. Trying to brew a “rotation proof” version
23:40 path of peril would have killed you :)
This deck is why i run main deck sweepers in my standard decks.
Nice
I have played a ton of mob nixilis the card is really good
I have been playing witb her for months. She is a very powrful and slept on card.
Yeah, I think Pia is pretty underrated at this point.
Looks like fun. Might give this a go. Thopters win?
I know this does not matter at all but its funny how you sequenced the cards at 58:52 in the complete opposite order of the way to get the most value. Missed a thopter and +1/+1 counter if you played druid -> pia -> land. Some true Seth gaming right there lol.
Thopter tokens have haste, so M2 21:00 left damage on the table by choosing to not attack. Deck is faster than perhaps folks give it credit? Love the content, as always, Seth❤❤
Tried this deck on Arena ... got wrecked every game.
I know the big thing is no black but I'm already thinking Mardue historic version of this deck with prosper lol
Would this deck want 1 or 2 Jetmir?
Why is their no arena deck list?
"we need to be aggro" - first combat damage turn 6... xD
I dunno why you didn’t double destroy evil on the two desecrators in game 1? Feels like more certain removal than creating two knight tokens to stop one of two menace monsters!
Oh man, meathook in this standard would utterly crush this deck lol.
Watching mono black get GOT is so satisfying. I can't be the only one absolutely sick of loosing simply bc Shieldred exists.
So it’s “naya” but really just boros with the lightest green splash of questing Druid, which is half red
In match 1, game 2, turn 4, why doesn't he play Pia before the Questing Druid instead of playing QD + wedding announcement?
Does destroy evil just... not exist seth my man?
Black sweeper for 3 that would have won them the game: Path of Peril, they probably wouldn’t run it main board tho
Trying this deck out, not sure how you have success with so few lands .
The curve is so low you can play most of the cards you exile so they usually aren't wasted and it's good at going wide and tall. So sick
Here I thought Seth played this deck because it won (or to 4) a recent event
Use Pia with Urza in Jeskai Thopter Legends
Still here to promote my agatha transformation station. A RG deck based around the march of the machine transform phyrexian cards
Hey seth, random question. Does your talking through each game, essentially to just yourself, ever affect you playing magic IRL? Like do you ever catch yourself narrating games when your playing tabletop? Lol
we are in a world where mono black looks so outclassed...
Why do you have so many green sources? Your only green card was 4 Questing Druids, which weren't really important to the deck (it was mostly Seek the Beast). It just seems like a little much.
No Rocco? 🤔
I would have double blocked the Adeline
I can't believe Seth lost to the Rhyme Minister of the UK
Why not add rocco? He exiles cards and gives you counters and food
I like this deck but Vampire tribal with cauldron is also really fun with bloodtithe harvesters, Thrillseekers, and Olivia’s attendants. Plus with vampire socialite you get counters on all your vampires to fling them at your opponents it’s so fun
Vampire tribal has been my pet project in standard for a long while now. Mine is a grixis build I call blood bank. Here's the current list. 4x Voldaren Epicure 4x Annihilating Glare 4x Voldaren Bloodcaster 4x Vampire Socialite 4x Blood tithe Harvester 4x Edgar Markov 3x falkenrath Forbear 4x Corpse Appraiser 3x Florian Voldaren Scion 2x Sorin the mirthless 2x Anje Maid Dishonor Land package is 3 swamp 1 mountain takenuma sokenzan 4 blackcleave cliffs 2 sulfurous springs 2 Xanders lounge 4 secluded courtyard 4 Voldaren estate. It's a fun build that provides a lot of skill expression/decision making when compared to most other aggro decks
Pia Nayaar
In Match 1, we're both probably sharing a thought on why the opponent didn't burn the Invasion of Alara, especially when they got that second copy out. The Pia and Thopter weren't going to to out-speed your opponent, and the Invasion of Alara would have done the same work that them targeting the thopter and Pia would have done, except with more value.
Match 2, mono-black would have needed to open a consistent removal hand, something a competent player would have known. I get the feeling that that opponent saw that mono-black was popular/over-represented and assumed they could get free wins from it. Problem is, it's a format old and current stats haven't updated for the current meta. The jund piles are a lot more consistent and much more effective at closing a game.
Match 3, that jund pile combined with you getting flooded just felt really bad. I think your jund match-ups are a 50/50 under neutral conditions.
Match 4 looked like a neat deck. Probably needs some refinement, but it definitely has potential.
Match 5 that was way too reactive for a control pile. Early game spells that generate tokens are building into a payoff for the late-game. They probably thought taking 6 over 3 turns was a far bigger risk than interacting in the late-game with your threats.
I wonder if there is a good one-of card that could give your team Lifelink. It seems like a blowout in some situations.
23:37 Bonu's Last Reckoning 😂
I LOVE YOU
add rocco
So, what's the deal with you guys and CGB posting very similar decks the same day? Been going on for days now.
It must be the "great minds" thing. Maybe I'll have to message CGB and see if we can coordinate our videos so we don't double up so much ;)
Content creators have to be fast with meta decks since they can dissapear in a week (Remember Gyaruda) and if you post it nobody is going to watch it.
@@jozefkeresturi2139ugggh, I remember that 🤢
Pia is good, but only because of Wedding Announcement.
This is easily the worst deck I have ever played, after 100ish games, I have an under 20% win rate.
No Rocco, Street Chef? Sure, he doesn't make hasty Thopters, but against grindier match ups, shouldn't he at least be in the sideboard? Considering he enables what Pia is already doing I would have thought it to be an auto-include, but he might just be too slow for the format?
54:00 proff that the algorithm is fucked and intentionally mana floods or screws you over a properly shuffled deck would have seen more lands then that.
I'm so impressed at this nonsense.
39% win rate on untapped
I don't understand how Torch the Tower is supposed to be better than Strange
instant speed + scry + exile
@@wjjajshshdbdnnsndhbauhwhshs A deck that wins on turn 10 doesn't care about instant speed efficiency.
how does exiling matter?
You're NEVER gonna bargain and thus scry
Also 1 damage less? hello?
