- The Lawnmower Man is a movie based on a short story by Stephen King. The movie has VR, cyborg chimps, and a giant gold head turning people into bubbles. Is any of this in the book? Watch and find out! Joining me for this trip is Tim from Tapes from The Crypt.

The movie writers knew they had to include alcoholism and abusive parents to make it look like a Stephen King story.
9:26 just looked it up, The Running Man also got a video game adaptation, but it was only released in Europe. Also, The Mist and The Dark Half got computer games.
Does The Mist game have a shoot-your-kid section?
Beyond The Mind's Eye, sequel to The Mind's Eye, used pre-existing animation & Jan Hammer of Miami Vice wrote new music to accompany it. It's like an inverse of Fantasia. The company that did the CG for Lawnmower Man which was used in that, is now Rockstar San Diego, makers of the Red Dead Redemption games.
Man, did they manage to come out golden.
@@kubrickenigma7977 I think they're surrealist masterpieces and a popular choice to put on when I'm snoozing on the couch.
I found that out yesterday (Rockstar games being the ones who made the CGI scenes in this movie) and i still can't believe that, it's crazy that they went from this to GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2
@@Toby-Draven It's as easy to believe as Mainframe Enterrainment who made Reboot, Beast Wars etc making the music video for Dire Sraits Money foe Nothing in its early days ;)
Love the Tom Atkins shirt 😅
I had the director's cut tape as a kid, so I saw this movie many times. (some scenes more than others)
YA know this is one of those films that if it was made today could be one sick and twisted dark film with some insane imagery
Cybo man arrives!
The actor that plays Jobe in the second movie, his Matt Frewer who also plays max headroom
He was also in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids
@@JIF882It blew my mind when I found out just a few years ago that the neighbor dad from HISTK was Max Headroom
He's also Moloch the Magician in Watchmen.
Everyone’s talking about Jobe’s War Tony
yes, I was thinking Cheetor. btw thanks for reminding me about the site forgot where it was. please bring back the Toxic Crusader Jersey, and the MI Amigo Mac flag
It took me 31 years until I finally got around to watching this on the YT channel Creature Features.
Boy, was I ever amazed in all the wrong ways. Great awful film. So very early 90s. Will I ever watch it again?
It was as bad 30 years ago as it is today. The only reason it was a hit at the box office was due to all the hype around the incipient VR technology of the time.
Despite all the hype and predictions about VR in the 90s, 30 years later, and VR is still little more than a gimmick. It hasn't even really caught on in gaming.
@dreamlandnightmare I've read PlayStation 5 VR goggles are terrific for 3D movies, so there might be something to it.
I guess one warning of the film was how much of a nightmare VR and digital envelopment could be if controlled by the wrong entities.
@@kubrickenigma7977 The technology has improved, but it still hasn't caught on. How many people do you know with VR?
VR is still not nearly to the point warned in this movie or the 90s zeitgeist. AI has come so much farther than VR.
@dreamlandnightmare Well, yes, good point, but the spirit of the speculative futurism in the film is what I had in mind.
Jobe gets addicted to the stimulation provided by the digital interface, much like people and their phones these days. Game consoles are less addictive than these doggone phones.
As for AI and VR, who's to say the former can be used to further develop and be integrated into the latter.
Pretty wild.
Come on guys...
JOBE'S WAR!
JOBE'S WAR!
JOBE'S WAR!
This episode is performing very well Tony
Jobe looks a lot like a Trey Parker. The movie was pretty good, but the VR EFFECTS are dated. It's still a fine watch and much better than the sequel.
It's also actually kinda funny. the dated effects remind me of Disney Quest over in Disney world lol. and the acting add to the overall cheesiness.
vr effects are what turns good into great
real internet is just boring text, broken search(es), and 3 sites in total
no flsah no css no personal sites with gifs
and 90s-00s movies show you such sites to see
I think you mean Trey Parker in his baseketball ball role as Coop
Why does Tony laugh at everything he says?
Always had a love and appreciation for this movie the theatrical cut was good but the extended cut was better great video 👍👍
I watched the extended cut of this the day before you announced it lol
Dark Tower had a pretty interesting browser-based game sort of like Myst back in the olden times.
1:03:36 You missed out on the best line of the movie, "I am Cob here"
Absolute gem of a scene
Only thing I know about Lawnmower man 2 is that it was the trailer on the VHS tape of 1995’s Mortal Kombat.
Deatomizing breaking down organic matter into base elements ...it a hell of a thing😁
Haha. I finally got a copy of Night Shift about 6 months ago. I wondered how the whole lawnmower man story could fit in 10 pages or so. I found out pretty quickly.
I seen The Lawnmower Man back when it first hit VHS and my next door neighbor had rented it from the local mom & pop video store. I ended up buying a dual sided New Line Platinum Series DVD of it 20 years ago but never watched it just played around with the Special Features on the disc.
The lawnmower man in your head now I love this movie access denied access denied access denied
Hello new friend!
I like when Tony brings new friends into the store!
Me too!
Matt Frewer is Job in Lawnmower Man 2. You're welcome.
I saw The Lawnmower Man at the cinema and it was cool through my teenage eyes. It's still not a bad movie at all. Years later I read the short story and thought it sucked.
The 3 ninjas hat is dope. You gotta do a 3 ninjas episode 🥷
That spawn shirt it is awesome
I was so obsessed with VR and 3D stuff at that time! Started when I see Virtua FIghter, Mario 64 and F22 on Sega Genesis, love Polygons!!!
The only film that is more faithful to the source material is Stephen K...er I mean RICHARD BACHMAN'S The Running Man
the running man also counts as a stephen king video game
Tony, you have to watch werewolf by night… they got the man thing right I promise.. so good
I read the short story after seeing the movie and thought. What the f*** is this? I don't remember any of this in the movie.
mentioning the Corman fantastic 4 the day he died, you can't hide Tony we know what you did
This was shot awhile ago!
I've only ever seen pictures of the VR stuff, I've never actually seen the movie, i would like to see it someday but i gotta try and find it
There’s a 12 min short adaptation of lawnmower man you can watch online.
Made in 1987 it’s more faithful to the story. Written by Michael de Luca who went on producing/wrotong everything from Texas chainsaw 3 to the 50 shades movies.
And directed by James gonna who….was a casting associate for Birdemic 2
In lawnmower man 2 it was Matt frewer right after he played crash can man in the stand and then became max headroom
Tony… demand for Jobe’s War could not be greater
it is without a doubt the most faithful adaptation of all time.
Anyone else discover "The Lawnmower Man" because of the Mortal Kombat vhs? (technically Lawnmower Man 2: Jobe's Ass)
Tony, Jobe’s War Tony
I finally watched the director's cut a few years ago. This is definitely a fun, strange watch. Stuff like this and Virtuosity are for sure artifacts of the 90s.
how'd i miss this for for a whole 24 hours, yes!
Those graphics are really… cutting edge lol
This movie is hilarious!
Should do a best and worst of Stephen King's books to movies I feel like he has the most book to movies.
I recently saw This is on STARZ, first time watching,
And I cannot believe I missed this on cable in the 90s as a kid.😅
5/19/24
Can't get enough of the Three Ninjas hat.
The only other thing that is both in the short story and in the movie is the ending where the police are looking at the murder scene and make mention of the birdbath. the same joke about the body being in pieces is used. if you look closely at the van parked on the street in the movie it has the same company name as the one in the book.
Who was the best Jobe?
Jeff Fahey, Matt Frewer or Will Arnett?
I was looking at the Special Features on my old DVD of the movie it has 12 deleted scenes, I guess those were still intact for the directors cut of the film.
we need a langoleers game with good cgi lol. The stand should really be a cardgame or RPG
Johanna we (i) miss you!!! When will she come back???
The VHS copy of the movie has a scene where Jobe mind controls the actress who plays Brosnan’s wife and has her kill one of bodyguards which in turn she gets shot by the other two before the giant Jobe golden head scene.
One of Trey Parker’s earlier roles
So this is Flowers for Algernon?
Heard so much about this movie through the years but I’ve never watched it before!
It's the robocop chimp from TimeSplitters.
NO
Tony adjust your shot so there isn’t a giant number 3 in the corner of the screen when the camera is on you.
What the heck kind of a lawnmower is that? It looks like a snowblower. If I want to see a "Lawnmower Man," I'll watch King of the Hill.
fun and fine
The video game was great to me
It's still a good movie
I saw lawnmower man when it first came out when I was living in Seattle ...And I'm still pretty sure the people sitting in front of me were trippin' on LSD...They kept laughing like hyenas 😂
sure is the most awesome one
Maxium overdrive pinball
I have never seen a man with

As long as your on the topic have you done
Ready Player One?
I definitely enjoy this movie. Kinda of a cool mix of occult and technology… definitely cheesy fun 😊
I'd love to see a review of How to Make a Monster movie
In the lawn mower, video game for the psychic Genesis. Not only do you play as the doctor character and as an unknown female character as well? Was that supposed to be peter's mom?
In hindsight Stephen King should have left his name on the project and just took a percentage of the gross. 😀
I first became aware of this movie in 1992. I was ten. It was one of the previews for the VHS of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. The other movie preview i remember is Deep Cover with Larry Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum. The title song for the movie was the first solo single for Dr. Dre. Snoop Dog was on that song. Was the scene Stephen King sex scene that Tony was referring to was the orgy in It? It's interesting that you guys mock the plot because it's ridiculous. I think that the plot in a movie like A Nightmare On Elm Street is just as ridiculous. I think that the plots for Total Recall and The Matrix are more ridiculous. In fact, I will say that The Matrix is overrated. I would rather watch this movie. Tony, you should have had Mike Matei on this episode. I think that he played the video game. To me, Jeff Fahey is an underrated actor. He was in Psycho 3. He was also great in Body Parts. Brad Dourif was in that movie as well. I have seen the director's cut. It was steaming on Prime. It's weird that Tony pokes fun of Jobe's disability, in regards to it being fake. People have also ripped apart Rain Man in that regard. Since The Shop is also in Firstarter, wouldn't that be another Stephen King reference? I recently realized that Dean Norris was in my favorite Steven Segal movie(Hard To Kill). He currently has a reoccurring character in the Law & Order: SVU spinoff Organized Crime. Lawmower Man 2 also has Patrick Bergin, who played the abusive husband of Julia Roberts character in Sleeping With The Enemy. He also played Robin Hood in an early '90s tv movie. Btw, the sequel is streaming on Peacock.
Tony, how do you fit through doors with such a big head?
Do you do comic book topic videos on your channel? Have you done a video on V for Vendetta? If not and it's of interest to you, would you want to do one? If so, could I donate a certain amount of money for it? Or if you wanted to do a debate or discussion with Adam Does Movies I'd pay both of you for that and it being a shorter video. Let me know!
To hell with the short story! This movie kicks ass! Way better
The short story is honestly pretty good and SUPER weird. But I get the sentiment
the movie is garbage, you have bad taste
@SBandana-uw9ed There's a reason it's called personal taste. When you can learn to respect people's opinions, yours will be acknowledged. Until then, crawl back under your bridge and continue to cry yourself to sleep.
I mean you're blaming Pierce Brosnon for what happened but everything was fine till the other guy switched brain juice.
Fun fact: this movie invented the word and concept of "cybersex". About the CGI and art style, the director said in an interview they made the virtual reality scenes "abstract, with a video aesthetic", because he wanted to remark VR was a new artificial world, and not exactly a kind one. They never intended it to look like an artificial reality, but like real artificiality, surreal and hallucinogen. The movie is a comment about how people become adict to technology, so the colors in the virtual reality become garish and the animation is more violent the more Jobe becomes "adict" to it, like an acid trip (and that's why Dr. Angelo is floating in that world of colorful sharp bubbles, he's already an adict). The sequel totally missed the point of the art direction, by making the virtual reality look exactly like reality. And I think you were wrong, Jobe was right about everybody being conected to virtual reality, just look at facebook, instagram and tictok, many people live in alternate realities there. So I think it was a prophetic movie.
Best movie Stephen King ever done was the lonesome death of Jordy verrill
Creepshow
Unironically one of the better Steven King adaptations, not in accuracy, but as in a good movie, since most the rest are dogsh1t
How about it’s the least faithful one. Hahahhah it’s about Pan the god.
Best Yahoo Serious movie ever lmao jk
Have a Pepsi
some weird actor plays him???? ITS FREAKING MAX HEADROOM!!!
I think i played the pc game first
Tony your muscles are really distracting, inappropriate for CZcams
My dad is gay...
Does your mother know?
Have you ever seen the movie "The Bird Cage"?
@@Ben_Lorentzor to wong foo/adventures of Priscilla
Honestly for a movie that takes little from the source material this is still sure as shit feels like Stephen King movie 😂 it has way too many of the cliches you'd see in any King film
The ugly cgi and ugly actors made this movie very uninteresting for me so I never watched it.
What a real stupid movie 😅😅
Too bad the sequel was utter 💩
I've tried several times to watch it and just couldn't get through it
Matthew Frewer is a national treasure!
Tony’s gonna review it!
@@AndrewJWildey 🤞🙏
Was the sequel really that bad? I didn't even know that this movie had a sequel until this video
This movie was so terrible, tried to watch it not too long ago & I just couldn’t sit through it, boring fuckin movie, what the hell was Brosnan thinking signing up for this shit movie, lol.
Such a bad, terribly dated movie.
The unnecessary laughter is annoying.. No more for me
You watched another episode!
LMAO
