I found an abandoned mower that looked great. Cleaned out the gas line and carburetor and wanted to change out the blade and oil, too. Many many many thanks!!
That is awesome well done. Found a diamond in the rough :)
Smiled at the end haha... Seeing a guy hyped up for his lawnmower with brand new oil. Great video btw. Gonna do my oil change for this 2023 summer. Thanks for showing how to do it!
Haha I get excited easily, that is what life is all about. Good luck changing the oil it is a bit of a PIA on these
😂😂 'He-man strength'. Yesszir, you were babysat by the after-school cartoons!! Great instruction video!!👍
Haha sure was, 80s cartoons
Thanks for the information video. Helped a lot!
Glad to help
Thank you very much for the video, thought it was made well and easy to follow
Glad it helped!
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower czcams.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Haha
Good stuff its been needing a change
Get’r done, make sure to stay hydrated!
Nice. Thanks dude.
CZcams is batter than google sometimes
You are welcome
good shit Mike made short and sweet.
Thanks! My first curse word on a comment I dig it lol
I'm working on a Troy-Bilt tb230 and it has the recess where the plug should thread in but it is not drilled out or tapped, it requires you to tip it on its side and pour it out the dipstick hole. It has the exact same cover on the bottom the same belt same blade Mount and everything
Wow that must have saved 50 cents in the production cost, pretty sad they don’t make oil changes easier on those.
Same here. I just went to change it. Know plug hole
I have the one without the power front and it doesnt have the drain plug at the bottom.
Same here. TB230 with series 720 Briggs and Stratton engine with the plug formed into the engine body, but no drain plug. Not as satisfying to get settled contents out by tipping it over.
Same here. I have the TB240 and no drain plug.
Overall a pretty decent video. Be sure to note that the drain plug is not visible by removing plastic cover on a TB200 model. Also, work has been done on the mower before because the plastic cover was installed incorrectly. After he took everything apart and put it back together he installed it incorrectly again. You can tell it's been worked on because the tab that was not inserted is much cleaner than the rest of the cover
By “decent” I think you meant “AMAZING” ;)
Great video mike! Now if I poured too much oil into tank, can I do this and then run the mower to burn remaining oil off? Thanks!
Nooo! Just drain the oil out and measure the correct level that goes in the engine
very helpful video.
Glad it helped
What if you don't have the drain plug under the plastic? I just bought one and decided to add new oil found your video helped alot but when I pulled the plastic cover I don't have a drain plug lol
I know it sucks. Will have to dump it over, or use a pump. I have a video coming up soon on using the pump
Thank you.
I have Troy-Bilt 280es, there's no oil drain plug under the belt guard, where else can the drain possibly be before I start completely taking it apart
Just tip it over on its side and let it drain out the fill tube. I hate doing it that way cause it makes a mess but that maybe your only option.
Where is the fuel filter? I'm overdue on new plug, blade and fuel filter. So this is very handy, thanks!
A lot of these small mowers don’t have fuel filters.
@@MowerMike That would make it hard to find...... LOL Thanks
@@michaelparson-mcnamara782 Haha yeppers just drain the old gas out and you are good.
@@MowerMike Every end of season here in northwest lower Michgan....
@@MowerMike What about air filters?
Did you run it to mix up the gold to drain? You said it sat long time.
Mike this video was done a long time ago I don’t remember. But I do suggest it
I put just a little too much oil, but now there's white smoke coming out. Is it ok to run the mower til the white smoke disappears, or should I completely drain out oil?
I would drain the oil out. Forcing oil into the cylinder is not good
How long are those bolts are the plastic piece? One of mine came loose and I lost it just need a replacement
I have no idea that mower is long gone
Thank you
Glad it helps
Is there not an oil filter to be changed on this model of lawn mower?
Nope no oil filter.
Do u know the exact bolt you need to screw the blade in with mine broke
Nope take the old bolt to the hardware store and match it up
Thanks!
Very cool, I really appreciate that. Now get to mowing!!! :)
Hey buddy, you got your drive belt cover on wrong. It goes into the slot where the belt does to the drive front wheels. I just put a new blade and blade holder on mine and it's kind of hard to get the belt cover in the slot where it's supposed to go. Thanks for the video even if part of it was wrong. Thanks anyway.
Thanks for being so kind in calling out my mistakes. Most of my videos have atleast one error in them
Hi, what model number is this mower? I think I have the same one but no model info sticker on back
It is a TB230
I need those back wheels. Can’t find them.
Put your nose down and keep looking! We call it bird dogging down here in the south.
Do you have part number for the blades?
Nope sorry just find them on Amazon or your local hardware store
What torque spec do you use on the blade?
I just tighten it as good as I can hand tight. Am sure Google will tell you something more exact
What’s the oil type for troy bilt tb240
I use just 10w30 for most things
I have a two year old TB105 and it does not have a bottom drain, so possibly these other people are not goobers.
Maybe??!
A quart and a half of oil?
Hey there. I am not sure. Just google your mower model number and “oil capacity” it will pop right up
My TB210 has no drain plug. The boss is there, but there’s no threaded insert.
If there is a square hole in the boss you can put a ratchet wrench in it but if not you will need to tip it on its side to drain. Good luck
you ever hear of an oil extactor??? Next.
@@evo7ism Nope sure haven’t. Next what? Don’t leave me hanging here
Very good video...all the other ding dongs are dumping the oil out the fill tube...WRONG
YOUR VIDEO DOES IT THE PROPER WAY.👍👍👍👍👍
Haha well thanks for the compliment. I agree doing a video dumping your mower on its side and making a mess is lame.
Good video but you didn’t put the drive belt guard on correctly. The rectangular tab goes up and into the deck.
Sorry was my first time doing this lol
@@MowerMike no worries, I appreciated the video and link for a new carb. The springs in mine are shot.
In his defense, it wasn’t reinstalled correctly by previous owner/tech.
Hey man, I liked your comment about the drive belt cover being on wrong. I added a comment to the same effect and then I read yours. I sat back and laughed out loud. Now that the lawnmower man has two replies of the same nature maybe he'll go back and get his belt cover on correctly. Thanks for the reply you gave.
The amount of different sizes of fasteners is questionable engineering. Guess they don’t care to make them easy to service 🤷🏼♀️. Thanks for the quick clear video!
Haha so true. Glad it helped
The blade mount looks broken. The two nubs are gone.
Yep just made sure it was extra tight, good eye
yes
Nothing wrong with tipping the mower on its side or using a siphon. Warming up the engine before draining is more critical.
These take around 20oz, not a qt.
Yep way overfilled her, got to watch the the end for my screwup. Got to disagree on the siphon comment, gravity is a great tool when getting out old oil sludge.
Mower Mike's Garage l
Yeah I was thinking the same...no way a little 6.75 B & S is taking a quart to a quart and a half. You'll get oil in your carb then you're done.
Watched another video were he poured in a full bottle, then added more! Thought it should only be 28 ounces!
@@MowerMike for years I always drain from bottom. I went to VoTech small engine repair. We were taught that way. Two other vodeos here showed tipping.
Black Gold - Texas Tea - Jed Clampett
😂😂🤣🤣
I have maybe a slightly newer model. I followed your instructions and removed the blade and cover. Guess what? The have a frigging aluminum non removable plug in that hole! Bloody hell, they really don't want you to drain the oil!
Lol right, is so dumb and cheap
Good evening Mike I'm Brendon you need to replace your blade adapter cause your bow tie pattern is mushroomed
My mower looks nothing like that on the bottom.
Hmm must be one of those electric jobs
@@MowerMike no apparently it’s a TB110 and you have to drain or run gas out then tip the mower to change.
For safety, please unplug spark plug cable.
Too late. (am now typing with one hand for life)
Should told people to take the spark plug boot off anytime you working on blade or engine.
You have to tell me how you came up with that handle!
@@MowerMike it my dogs names lol. So my Troy Bill TB240 doesn’t have a drain under it. Further research led me to see people just tip it over and let the oil pour out from the oil fill tube.
However now I have a problem of my self propelled mechanism not working.
Oh, no worries my friend, I watched your video again and whomever di 1:40 d this job before you had it on wrong . Good video, keep them coming.
There is no. Drain plug on the newer model. Bastards!
Right, such a crappy way to save a buck making mowers.
on the newer models, can you drain it by tipping it over so the oil comes out the fill tube?
@@dalziel1014 Yep you can it just will get messy
Might want to tell people to pull coil wire from plug. U put a power tool on the blade bolt and dont hold the blade. You just might start it. Pass in this one. Sorry
Good point, glad I didn’t cut my arm off!
pain in the ass to change oil, can't you just tip over mower and drain from oil check - dip stick spot?
Sure just may get messy.
What a stupid design. First and last troy built for me. It suppose to be single tool 3 min job.
Completely agree, total PIA
I was thinking the exact same thing this whole video.
Ooops i just dump it out where i put it in 🫣
Nothing wrong with that, as long as it comes out.
