Folarin Balogun had a fantastic season on loan at Reims scoring 21 goals in Ligue 1. But upon his return to Arsenal he finds himself down the pecking order as a striker. Arteta has a headache to deal with, how does he find a place in the team for a striker that one day might be worth £100million?
Carl Anka weighs up the choices.

Let me tell you, as a long time Gunners fan, the idea of a “good problem to have” is something we haven’t had in a real long time
Haha so true. I remember the days where the problem was Walcott or Iwobi 😂😂😂
as a fan, the only “good problem” i remember was getting home to watch the 14/15 FA cup final 10 minutes late and missing the two goals we’d managed to concede to hull 😂
@@froodlenoodle😂, that happened to me too. Went to watch at my sister's place. When I got there she had switched off the tv.
😅
Yep
He just put Arsenal back in his bio. My manager gave him a fogging speech about estandards. The leagues ain’t ready.
Arteta has rizz
Ps Jesus can play in the right wing with makes it even more convenient
Arteta is going all guns blazing this season. Balogun has 2 years contract so we can afford 10 mil loss on sales for a quality season and who knows what that competition might trigger in Either of Eddie or Balogun. I see it as a very good situation.
Foggin yeah 😂
For fogs sake
Balogun offers more as a Striker than Nketiah. There were moments where Nketiah needed to offer more in the final third of the match and didn't. I think Balogun deserves a chance.
Exactly. Nketiah has had a thousand opportunities and hasn’t exactly proved his worth. Balogun deserves a chance at the very least
The problem is that Balogun wants to play as the main starter and Arteta has Gabriel Jesus already
Balogun has ambition and doesn't want the bit-part role Nketiah plays. If you offered him the chance to be the starting striker, he'd stay. But Gabriel Jesus will always start.
Ppl don’t realize that it’s tough to play in the prem every week and Eddie has been doing that at Young age for a while now. Injury free
He's not going to be 1st choice at Arsenal for a season and a half. He only has 2 years to run on his contract without being 1st choice he Will not sign. Arsenal have to sell him . Unfortunately
I like Nketiah a lot, but feel like Balogun offers more overall. I'd probably sell Nketiah and keep Balogun to compete with Jesus. Not sure that will happen though.
Did you watch him play a game for Reims?
Nketiah is slightly better than Balogun atm, the thing is Balogun may have a higher ceiling because he does some things better. The problem with using his Ligue un stint as a basis is that Lacazette who was a flop at arsenal was the 2nd top goal scorer in that league. What does that tell you? I say sell him now for 50M, put in a buy back clause for like 60M. Use that money to get a RW to compete with Saka
@@Kelo7we don’t need a right winger though, saka will play a lot and we have Nelson on the bench who hopefully won’t get injured as much this time. It’s a waste of money to spend 60 on a winger who’s not gonna start
@@Kelo7arsenal already have a backup right winger with Reiss. Also why does saka “need” competition, he’s a superstar and a top 5 winger in the prem
@@logancoleman4507Reiss is going to play on the left and his natural position is as an inside forward.
So Carl should definitely do these more. Brought some fresh energy to these types of videos 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥
I love this host. He should be doing more videos. Nice content as always
He's not a try hard comedian who's trying to make up for never being cool lol
He dislikes arsenal, said spurs would finish over us while we were first last season.
@@CrayTom Not a bot actually.
@@fieserfactsack9635 I like his presentation. U dont always have to agree with what he says
@@CrayTom just say you're racist and move on bro
If I'm Arteta I'm going with option 1, and if Balogun doesn't want to compete with Nketiah/Jesus then we need to insist on a buy back clause in any sale, just in case
Buy back clause is a must for any deal made. Otherwise it’s no deal if it were up to me.
Won't be shocked if he convinced Arteta he is better than Nketiah already
It would have been great, if you included nketiah and balogun's stats comparison
Be good to understand why Arteta would favour Nketiah vs Balogun or maybe he’s open to either?
I imagine the team has to play differently with Jesus out of the team but how much change is needed for Nketiah vs Balogun
Maybe... Balogun received the more favourable treatment by having the loan opportunity and consistent first-team appearances, giving him a greater chance to develop.
Saliba didn't get a look-in with the arsenal first team before then becoming one of the top defenders in the league.
@@lukemclellan2141Nketiah has been loaned out.
Route didn't play enough, so pointless
@@IncredibleMetEddie is older, more exp, he's happy to sit in the bench & pop & score important goals when required, flo wants to start, & at his age he isn't good enough to stay for arsenal yet
They should try and incorporate him into the team somehow. He's too good to sell
Where would he play, how often, & will he make more than Nketiah? 🫡
Wouldn't you loan him to a lower table premier league team who want to play nicer for another year edit: I just got to the loan bit LOL. You've got to hold onto him though because he's going to be good
How can you incorporate him if he wants to be a starter? Just loan him another year and see if he improves and get him into the starting XI next season.
This is Gnabry all over again 🤦🏾♂️
@@messi9991 problem is, balogun dont want to go on loan, he wants to start

If he didn’t play for Arsenal, I bet Arsenal fans would love to sign him after what he did on loan in France.
exactly...right on point..
Not really. Shankland got 24 goals in the SPL. They are not looking for him.
@@mellowado6184 no one actually cares about the Scottish league, I’m afraid.
@M1d32 Nobody cares about the French league either. That's why all their players leave.
@@mellowado6184 there are levels to this, more people care about the French league way way more than the Scottish league.
If Balogun's progressive passing ability does actually improve to even anywhere near Kane's level, then the FA are really gonna regret the fact that he ended up declaring for USA.
Southgate had so many chances to cap him in useless matches like friendlies too, but just didn't. Such a dumb move.
@@theblackswordsman9951 Friendly caps don't lock a player down.
@@ScratchyMattress Thought they did. Besides he had dead rubber matches during qualifiers where he could have been capped still.

I saw something going around on twitter after the pre season match a couple days ago that arteta played jesus as a RW, which I believe is what he did during his last season or so at city. He could try that. Especially with champions league football coming, being able to rotate RW options between Saka, Jesus and Reiss could be good and give balogun some starting time during the Prem, just depends on if arteta can fit him in, otherwise I'd say sell him with a buy back/sell on
I like Nketiah, but I think Balogun has very valuable skills that jump off the page. I’m selling Nketiah, keeping Balogun and making him striker #2.
If only you were the coach. Sadly you're not
Cracking piece. Balogun first started appearing on radars in 2020 and it was clear even back then we might have had a special talent on our hands.

@@mellowado6184No one in Ligue 1 dominated the league like Haaland did to the Prem

@@mellowado6184 “only”
If I had a striker who was out on loan in one of Europe’s biggest leagues and scored over 20 goals….. I’m giving him his chance ASAP.
right on point
mate i could probably score 20 goals in that league
all joking aside though, only isuse is he dont wanna be a backup, and currently he is not beating jesus into that starting 11
Lacazette scored more than him and he was awful in the premier league.
Love the analysis and presentation!
Idk it’s kinda hard with this. On one hand Balogun brings a directness that we don’t really have with this squad and that could be really useful (think of how Man City become more direct under Haaland). On the other hand, his first touch and his back to goal skills aren’t there yet to where he is a perfect fit for a possession side. So idk it’s a dilemma right now
There’s a massive difference between being direct and being Haaland. Jordan Rhodes was a direct striker, doesn’t mean that he would have proven too useful to arsenal.
Carl is awesome! Please have more of him
I hope you're right, because I would love the US national team to have a $100 million striker
I'll take the 60mil striker between Pulisic and Reyna even. Oh wait, Gregg is waiting for Gio to talk to him, *facepalm*

Sadly he is not the striker profile Arteta needed for his team. He is a baller don't get me wrong but the strikers Arsenal are linked to are tall with strong physical present in the box which don't seems to be available this summer. Forcing him or Arteta to accommodate one another is just gonna be like a bad marriage. Just look at Lukaku, Jovic, Werner and Andrea Silva. They are a goal-scoring machine in a specific tactical system that fit their profile but flop in a different tactical system.
Havertz
I think if he performs well in pre-season and Arsenal don't get an offer above 50mill, they won't sell, the same way they wont sell Eddie unless they get a 30mill offer +, or at least i'd like to think so..
Good job Carl, great presentation.
Rotation is the key. With tons of games to play this season, I think Arsenal can utilize Jesus, Eddi and Balogun. I would rotate btw Jesus and Balogun to start every games and Eddie comes in every 65 minutes to finish each games. This will keep all of this strickers happy and active, I think.
God bless you!! right on point...Arteta should be bold and ready to rotate...His static and rigid lineup killed us last season, fatigue will set in if you overused same players...Go for all the competitions and stop prioritizing competitions with different players...It kills players morale..
Are the jerseys on the wall rotated or are there more jerseys across a longer wall and the videos are recorded at these different sections (like each one has their own desk type of thing)
I need to know it’s been annoying me a while now 😂

No doubting Balogun's talent. But his goalscoring in France needs to be put in perspective. Alexandre Lacazette outscored Balogun in France, but really struggled in his last season in the PREM.
Flo outscored Neymar and Messi in the very same league for a vastly inferior team so lets put that into perspective! You can always find facts to spin a certain narrative
U can’t have a go at Balogun for that but still want mbappe and rave about Saliba
@@j_dyme WTF! I made no mention of those two players.
@@grantdixon230No. You cherry picked a comparison to make your argument look valid. But Balogun beat a host of strikers, and that with a side of lesser quality than PSG, Oam, or even Lyon.
@@grantdixon230 I know bro, but ur basically putting down that league. But I’m saying that mbappe has only played in that league and I’m sure ude still take him and that before saliba came he was there. You don’t know how much i want this to come true
To your point of him improving at progressing passes , coming deep and collecting to then distribute: This is exactly what he will be doing for the USA under their current coach/system.
Which app they are using for stats?
Doing well in France and in England are two very different things. Lacazette scored 4 PL goals in his last Arsenal season, then 27 goals in Ligue 1 the next year. Arsenal have often been too reluctant to sell in the past - given that Balogun wants to play week-in week-out, we should be prepared to cash in if a bid of £30-50m comes in.
Easy money for him
It's absurd how people use Lacazette's example to under rate the French league...Neymar & Messi failed to score 20 goals....even if you took G.Jesus to the French league, he wouldn't even make 15 league goals....he's not a good finisher...Balogun has always been a no nonsense goal scorer & he always will be no matter which club or league he goes to.
i hope he goes to milan and starts every match instead of hoping they wont start jesus no matter if hes lost form
@@mbonimpatimothy6051 what is absurd is you believing you know better than the coach with experience at managing a team and genius tactician. Have you even formed and managed at your local community? Dont let Fifa career mode fool you to think you know better
Tbf with the rate of inflation we're seeing in the transfer market there will be a lot of 100m pound strikers...
Balogun will combine better with Gabriel Jesus compared to Nketiah. All though Nketiah is more experienced. But Balogun just looks better to me.... His movement and his involvement in the play.
He'd do well in a strike partnership, 442 system
I would like to see him stick around this year. The squad will have more depth. Something Arsenal were lacking last year. Then they can compete on several fronts and hopefully everyone will get some silverware. Next year the players can re evaluate knowing they accomplished something. Arsenal could was desperately needing depth this year to avoid player burnout.
i think selling balogun right now would br the right thing to do as i am confident arsenal will be pursuing a world class cf next summer and balogun is still a few years away from (potentially) being just that
Why spend money on a striker when we have one with World Class potential right there. That's like suggesting Spurs should've sold Kane to replace Soldado with someone more established. We'll probably be forced to sell Balogun anyway if he insists on playing, but we need to do everything we can to keep him regardless

I like Nketiah but Balogun has a higher Ceiling. One of them has to be the backup so I'd try to convince Balogun to stay and give him all cup and sub apps and some UCL games. Havertz is fine as a 3rd option
I just love this guy...
If he can be convinced I'd keep him. And tell all 3 strikers (Jesus, Nketiah and Balogun) that the no1 spot is up for grabs for whoever wants it. Arsenal's biggest issue last year was having a very good starting 11 but not a good squad. They've clearly improved that in midfield (Rice and Havertz), and now they need to do the same for their strikers. I'm not sure Jesus and Nketiah are not going to be good enough to compete across 4 competitions.
Or, simple: Put Jesus out wide to compete with Martinelli. Yes, there's Troussard but Troussard does not mind being a substitute.
Hope Balogun would realise accepting another loan move for this coming season especially to maybe the promoted EPL teams would only benefit his career path. As he can be the main man week in week out for them in the EPL and return stronger next season to compete for the main striker role.
Nketiah is fast and nimble but his finishing simply isn't at the level currently required. At a PL-club in the 10th-15th-area Nketiah'd do bits, but Balogun has done enough to deserve the chance to get gametime. Not necessarily as first choice, but definitely a decent amount.
I like this guy, he should be in more videos
Love the SPS support 😂🔥
Worse case scenario, sell him with a buy-back clause. Effectively, it's a loan🤷♂️
Balogun showed at Reims a lot of qualities I didn't know he had and didn't get much of a chance to show some of the things I saw from him at youth level. He played a lot on the wing and is really good at that drifting sort of movement Henry made famous and dribbled much more frequently. He couldn't afford to do that because of the team Reims has and what they specifically needed from him but hes always been more than just a poacher. I love Nketiah but he doesn't offer much beyond goals and Balogun deserves every chance to supplant him. Jesus is irreplacable though
Watched him quite a lot for Reims last season and he’s clearly talented but it was noticeable how poor he looked towards the end of the season when their form declined and he was unable to rely on consistent good service. I’d like to see a greater sample before making a judgement on him.
'...he’s clearly talented but it was noticeable how poor he looked towards the end of the season when their form declined and he was unable to rely on consistent good service'
Missing Odegaard and 300k pw Saka in a nutshell
Carl anka is awesome. Nice vid
This whole video I was thinking "hmm sounds like Ajax' solution". Great you namedropped them, it would be a perfect signing for Ajax.
That’s my question too
Interesting to see so many Arsenal fans here with such a negative attitude towards him. Did not expect that. Either way I personally agree that he has the potential to become a topclass striker in the future hence why I hope wherever he is next season he will atleast get a lot of minutes.
Can he not debut for Martinelli and work the left channel running in? I know we got Trossard but he plays like a 10 and he covers a lot of positions
Balogun is a good quality that we dont necessarily need, but good to have
Would love for him to stay with us.
Nkethia does not convince me at all. I would sell that player and give this lad a chance
Yeeesssss the Anka-man is back!
According to Brazil Scout, Folarin Balogun's strengths are: FINISHING, INSTINCT, PACE, ATHLETISM, HEADING, NATURAL FITNESS, AGILITY, DETERMINATION and DRIBBLING. If we are going to sell him, we better put a buy back clause so we don't make the same mistake we made with Serge Gnarbry.
15 non-penalty goals in 37 apps, 34 starts and 3000 minutes. Nketiah already has the same kind of rate for Arsenal, albeit with zero penalties taken, more defensive output and better ball progression despite the fact that those stats were recorded in the Premier League compared to Balogun's in Ligue 1. And Balogun only has 70 minutes of experience in the Premier League. Maybe a loan in the Premier League (or serious promotion contenders in the Championship) would suit him for now. He was superb at PL2 level (although Nketiah was arguably better there too), but he didn't even show much in the step up to the Championship for Middlesborough.
This isn't really a headache for Arteta.
I think imo the best option right now is to convince him to stay since he is in contract if not sell him with a decent buy back clause.
This is the kind of problem every club wishes they had
I wonder if Arsenal can find flexibility with him upfront
Although i don´t like it the comercial aspect in player value is important
Balogun just might be the next american wonderkid maybe even star player and for a club run by american owners dipping into the us market by having the top USMNT striker at your club must be appealing!
I think Eddie goes on loan and Jesus and Balogan are used in rotation. Five year contract on Eddie, he could percievably come back a beast too.
This would be my preferred outcome
You was spot on on his price range 30M-50M
45M€
38M£
your data is not valid, Balogun might have the closest skill set with Harry Kane according to his stats, but that was Ligue 1 data, which way different than EPL, Ligue 1 pitch is bigger than EPL pitch, most of the defenders are faster and stronger than Ligue1 players, which shown why Harry Kane is so good, and no strikers can do what he does. this is why you can't simply use moneyball data in football, as this is a world wide sports, unlike baseball where they only play in the same league, so the data are more valid.
CARL!! that's my guy, bro I missed you.
Idk how Balogun with a 40 prog pass projects to be similar to Harry Kane (99 prog pass).
Would let to see Arteta give Balo a chance at the starting role early in the season. I think he smashes it and displaces Jesus. Or move Eddie on and grantee him starts in cups and champions league group stage games, if he kicks on from there i think he could also take the starting role
can arsenal have buy back clause option like real madrid?
I've been saying for about 4/5 seasons now we should be giving Balogun the chance and not Nketiah, way back when Wenger was still in charge and he was giving Nketiah a chance but not Balogun, called it then, hes going on to be world class one day and Nketiah wont get anywhere near he level.
ANY CARL VIDEO IS THE A GOOD GOOD VIDEO
If he gets his head down and does what Arteta wants there's a chance he'll stay and get some game time or go out on loan again. If not, and he does more interviews saying I want this and that and gets all Charlie Big Potatoes, he'll be gone before the season starts, no question. If people can't understand that they haven't being paying attention to what Arteta's been doing since he became manager, and if he can do it with "superstars" like Ozil and PEA with the club's backing, he can certainly do it to someone still at the start of their career. Also, Havertz isn't going to be used as a striker. He'll be either the 8 or 10 and will probably do a lot of interchanging with Ødegaard.
Balogan would be the perfect striker for United. Idk how anyone rates Nketiah over Balogan
I know Balogun wants to start games, but when more established players like Trossard, ESR and Timber may not be starters in a side that wants to compete against City, I don’t know how much he can be realistically offered. The only players who are undroppable at the moment are players like Saka, Odegaard, Rice, Saliba and Gabriel. These players will start every game they can, but most other players will see tactical rotations.
If Arsenal need to throw on another striker with 20 min left, I’m more inclined to throw on Balogun on. Nketiah just hasn’t looked convincing as a sub role at all, but his linkage play puts him a leg up over Balogun when Jesus is rested.
As Wenger once said “I know that I play a 20-year-old centre-back, I know he will cost me points in the season, and I have to stand up for that.
If I play a 28-year-old, maybe less talented, he will cost me fewer points, but I will not give a chance to a young player."
In my opinion, we sell Eddie, and keep Balogun
This is a really interesting video. I have tended to take the view that goals in Ligue 1 need to be taken with a hefty pinch of salt and can artificially inflate a player's reputation.
The analysis is pretty convincing though. Ultimately he looks a better bet than Nketiah in the long-term. As much as Nketiah's all round play has improved, he misses too many good chances.
Also it needs to be acknowledged that Balogun has a contract with Arsenal and it's up to the club if he leaves. I would try to convince him to stay as back up to Jesus. Sell Nketiah or if he insists on leaving go for £50M + 10% sell on or negotiate a lower fee, £35M-£40M and insist on a buy back and or significant sell-on fee.
In all honesty Nketiah is not a bad striker especially as a back up option however it is crystal clear Balogun has a better all round package as a number 9 than Eddie. Its most probably likely Balogun will be sold however Arsenal must insert a buy back option should this be the case because the growth potential of the player is undoubtedly insane.
Need a video on the reality of buy back clauses because people are just coming up with crazy stuff.
I think if Arteta does some compromises then Balogun could fit right in. With Balogun and Jesus we could have a classic strike partnership that could be really really good
Even when he was in u21, I never quite understood and still don’t why Arteta prefers Nketiah over Balogun.
Great, as always, but too many jump cuts for my taste.
He's a beast In my football manager save
